2025 Draft: WRs

Jayline Lane looks electric with the ball in his hands. His college production is not impressive as a WR but he's an explosive kick returner. I would expect him to fill the role of a WR/KR/PR. 21.7 yards avg return on kicks and 9.8 on punts.

Feels like a Cordarrelle Patterson type of player.

2023 is the year I'd recommend watching. He ran more traditional routes then and showed off his ability to separate in small spaces. For some reason he was largely relegated to gadget player in 2024.

On film the OL seems shaky and the QB little time to pass....a lot of Jet sweeps and end arounds.

I was reading an article comparing Travis Hunter, Jaylin Noel and Kyle Williams, three of my favourite receivers in this draft, but there is the obvious implication that comparing these three suggest they are all similar type receivers. This led me to come up with a theory that may or may not be correct.

1. We have shown a lot of interest in both Noel and Williams who, along with Josh Conerly, are the only prospects we've had three points of contact with.

2. I think that means that they may be viewed as alternatives to Travis Hunter.

3. Adding Diggs and Hunter would create a pretty full receiver room so a double dip is less likely.

4. In other words, if we draft Hunter, we won't draft Noel / Williams but if we miss out on Hunter, we will target them.

And one further unrelated thought. One way we could double dip if we add Hunter would be to draft Dont'e Thornton. He would add something to the receiver room that it doesn't really have, the height/weight speed guy. Thornton is limited but the skill set he has is what we lack.

Thornton is like a poor man’s DK Metcalf. Big, strong and blazing fast. Would be a nice home run swing in round 5.

That's exactly how I described him a while ago when I first wrote about him.

But what's his brain like? That's the problem with these limited speed guys.

If it's good enough to run go, post and slant, that might be enough. I don't envision him being a fully involved member of the receiver corps, just one that threatens the deep parts of the field and requires safety help for the corner defending him.

V late pick because they don't usually grow or last but a year or 2 unless injured a lot.

I agree. We have room for only 1 as of now, but one of Diggs, Bourne, Boutte, Pop, Polk, Hollins is out if we draft anyone other than Hunter. The logical fan favorite is Polk, but he is not the logical team favorite. He is a 2nd round pick and did show potential before Mayo and crew ruined him. He will be on this team for at least one more season.

Travis Hunter is consistently good across all routes

I'm pretty sure I've said it before, I think we hope for Hunter at #4, or just look at DAY 3 WRs. And specifically guys that have the size/release to play on the line as an X. They have drafted 4 WRs in the last two drafts that I think (another) new coaching staff is going to want to see what is actually there; along with Hollins, Diggs and Bourne; plus a couple PS guys.

One of the issues is alot of these guys are tweeners, they just don't fit into slots cleanly, a bunch of guys who are kinda Z/Slots, not alot of even average Xs.

Diggs played more inside in Houston, why? Age or fit?

Boutte played X more because of need.

Polk was tried outside, but that was a failure...is he better as a big slot? Can he get over the hands issue? He can get open.

Baker, couldn't get on the field and his highlight film college catches may overshadow the fact he just doesn't get open when he is actually on the field.

Bourne is a Z with some positional versatility

Hollins is a X

Douglas has shown he can play in the league, but is he a high volume slot? Or is he a 4th WR in wide packages?

Jackson- Practice Z
Jiles - Practice X

If you aren't getting a player that is penciled in as a day one starter, Hunter....I think you just need to find a project X guy that you would rather have on the team than Baker.

Day 3
Kyle Williams
Isaac Tessla
Xavier Restrepo
Pat Bryant
Jaylin Lane
JaCorey Brooks
Isaiah Neyor
Tai Felton
Tez Johnson
Tory Horton
Donte Thornton
Jimmy Horn
Roc Taylor
Arian Smith
Kyren Lacy
KeAndre Lambert-Smith

For various reasons, based strictly on reading sizes, speeds, and short writeups....these are the 3 I would look at on day 3.

Isaiah Neyor
Donte Thornton
Arian Smith

I think Baker very well could end up off the 53, either to the PS or cut. I know fans really want him to work out, but I don't think he has it, and we are better off keeping the vets and the young guys that have actually produced.

I'm out on Arian Smith. He has a 17% drop rate.

Yeah, any one that far down has issues, he can get off the line, and has world class speed; that alone makes him a threat...if you can work with him to cut the rate in half he could be a weapon....just a swing late. Big chance he never works out, but that is true of all WRs on day 3, at least he has some tools that make him interesting.

FYI -- apparently the NFL average droprate is just under 7%

Looks like he's going Late First: thanks for bringing him up again manman.

That was pointed out but a player like him on Day 3... You roll the dice I see value love his Speed: maybe his hands can be Coached up.

Between Neyor and Thornton, Thornton.

Where do you stand on Teslaa? Love the athleticism but my two main concerns are that 3/4 of his snaps are in the slot and I want an X and secondly, he doesn't look as athletic on film as his testing suggests. I do like the potential for upside his athleticism suggests though.
