Take Tet off draft board- he does not like watching football/film (title edit)

I like other prospects better than Tet, but I'll actually defend him here. I've worked jobs that I didn't like but I still dedicated myself to become excellent because I want to be a responsible member of the workforce. The NFL is a job in the entertainment industry at the end of the day, not some sort of religious organization that requires buy-in and belief with all your heart and soul and mind and strength. Does he have the skills required to be a productive football player, regardless of whether or not he loves it? Yes. I hardly think this is as big a red flag as people are making it out to be.

The only real question is if he's the best available player who can help the team. I get that psychological profiles are part of a prospect's makeup, but I just can't find much reason to care about his statements when he is the most productive wide receiver in college football over the last two years.

That's not as uncommon as you might think. We've seen many good HS athletes come thru our program who do not watch any football. That usually means the kids that do watch football have a much higher football IQ. Not sure I'd want to take this kid as a high pick knowing this is going to be a struggle to get him to watch film.

Matt Light didn’t watch football games, he played the sport because it was his job. I read an article in the Athletic about Travis Hunter a couple weeks ago about how much he loves fishing, he likes football but loves fishing.

When it comes to their professions, people have different levels of commitment and self-improvement.

I'm pretty sure Matt Light invested a ton of time into his craft and did everything he could to get ready for games. That's not a question. I'm also sure his coaches put a lot of emphasis on self-study, preparation and "hinted" he'd need to put in extra work to be fully prepared to play their next opponent.

Some people watch film independent because they are driven (see TB12) and some for the fun.

To me, whats unclear is Tet just being honest - but willing to watch film, hasn't been coached at the "BB" level so he just doesn't know the value, or is just lazy.

The "hating film" thing is a bigger concern.

he should stay in AZ with kyler murray

Did he actually say, "hate"?

Not to read too much into what he said as hes a twentysomething, sheltered college kid but at least in the video, he comes off as indifferent towards film review and how it can improve his game. In the NFL he'll learn or he won't.

As a prospect, I don't like him because he runs a 4.5 and is considered a 1st rd pick.

If end there in the Second, mighty tempting.

I think Higgins, Royals, Harris, and Savion what's-his-face are all better late R2 choices. This kid won't be there late R2 anyway.

I agree. He may not have the blazing speed but he does get open.

That's kinda why I want to cut him some slack. Some of these college players don't know any better or whats required at the NFL level. I can see a firm coach like Vrabel and/or Josh going to the kid and say, "You won't be successful here unless you commit to film study". Then he starts spending a lot of time with Diggs and "sees the light".

Upon further review, no, he said he doesn't like it.

I went and rewatched it. Doesn't really change how I feel about the guy. Vrabes said he is looking for football character guys. This kid ain't it right now. He might get there, but he might not too. The variable is these young guys all have NIL money in the bank already when they walk in the locker room. Tough to change their thought process. I made this money before doing it my way, why should I change now?

To your point hes definitely not being proactive or volunteering to do it. He doesn't see the value.

If we do draft him, maybe a guy like Diggs who is heavy into preparation and film study can help him understand the value.

Big if. Are there other guys in the draft who are close to his ability who live in the film room when not working out or practicing? I want those guys first.

Totally agree. I'm not drafting Tet ( < 1st round) until I get clarity on what he said and he understanding why film study is important and committing to it.

You don’t have to love something to excel at it. I cannot count the # of times I hated a job yet was great at it. He could have an excellent work ethic. I would be interested in seeing how his grades were over the years. If he wasn’t coddled/had his classes/tests taken by others (and other ways to cheat the school system) and did well, it may tell us that he’s got a great work ethic. Well this is just what I think…no clinical trials/research done or will be, by me at least. . Making the most out of a situation that’s out of your hands, like being drafted by the browns when wanting to go to the giants for example (why god why?) is so much better for everyone….
