Player Signing Patriots Sign WR Stefon Diggs

Unless that WR is Travis Hunter, I think they are done.

We have to see how all this goes: Stefon Diggs, Demario Douglas, Kayshon Boutte, Mack Hollins, Kendrick Bourne, J'Lynn Polk, J Baker.

7 WRs, need to cut 1 or 2.

Unless the front office is already relatively sure that Polk and Baker will never amount to anything, they are at their fill of WRs. Unless you grab Travis Hunter, then maybe you can let Bourne go as well.

But Diggs, Douglas, Hollins, Boutte are going to be on this team.

If you add Hunter, then Bourne, Polk and Baker fight for the 6th spot, if there is a 6th spot.
My guess is Mack Hollins makes this team

I completely forgot about Mack Hollins.

Diggs
Douglas
Bourne
Boutte
Hollins

Polk
Baker

In what universe does Polk or Baker make the roster? Would have to beat out Bourne and/or Boutte? That ain't happening. I guess if Diggs starts the year on PUP or they carry 6 WR?
A universe where we move off Bourne.

I don’t think Boutte is an absolute lock.

I agree but why sign Winston and Wilson? Waiting for a shot at what QB comes up next year? I think they are going for Hunter at 3
I think if they could get Ward they would take him
Signing Sanders and sitting him would have Dion being a thorn in Daboll and Schoen’s side.
Not good for 2 guys on the hot seat and a NY media that would run with it

I think Boutte and Bourne will be the most likely cuts

I think Hunter will go in top 3, leaving Pats with choice of Carter, LT or Jeante. If Wolf is serious about BPA the pick could be Carter or Jeanty

our new hope is Ward, Sanders, Patriots trade up 1 for Hunter, Giants select Carter. Or draft Jeanty to shut up the Barkley fans.
Yes I know Tracy looked good for them but Jeanty.

I think it depends on how well the WRs learn the offense,
Keep in mind Vrabel, nor McDaniels nor Vrabs boy picked any of these WRs so even without Hunter we may see 2 drafted:

Bourne should be for sure cut now. He was worse than the much cheaper and younger Douglas and Boutte. Each of which make close to the league min and are locked up at that price for 2 years. Bourne being cut saves about 5m. With the Diggs contract it makes sense they'd save money there.

Pats are still taking a WR within the first two rounds.

Bourne, Boutte, Hollins, Polk and Baker are fighting for spots.

Boutte made good strides towards the end of the season. I’m holding onto to him to see if that chemistry blooms with Maye. Having Diggs only makes Boutte more dangerous. I’m thinking Bourne is traded for a 7th back to the 49ers.

Best guess? Something like this as they will want a not too painful out in year 2, but a way to keep him if they like him. Year 3 is fake money.

Yr 1 17m 17g
yr 2 23m 6g
Yr 3 29m 0g

Excited enough about this move that I read all 13 pages. So much to speculate about from his attitude to health and his age and contract. Where to begin.

a. Lets start with the contract. Hard to interpret the numbers because there is a huge gap between the guaranteed money and the "total" deal. Within a week we will likely get a clearer view. But if "only" 26MM is guaranteed they you might think that means about $8MM/yr is salary. Then another $8MM in likely makeable incentives like game day bonuses, and decent production numbers and work out bonuses, etc. Then the rest will be for what I call premium bonuses, like OPOY or all pro, etc. So I guess he COULD get up to $22/yr if he's a top 5 WR in the league, but it will be more likely in the $14-16MM/yr range and as little as $8.6 if he's pretty much a bust.

I don't find any of those scenarios odious and hope we pay him the max because it will mean we have a top receiver league wide.

b. As far as his attitude. I was actually worried from the first reports that came out. But even before he signed, I had been reading more positive comments about his work ethic, leadership, and competitiveness. Clearly stuff happened in Buffalo in the end, but I don't think it carried from team to team. A lot of people loved him in Texas.

c. i mentioned in another post that by biggest worry about this offense is the lack of continuity. Think about it. This will be the 3rd system they'll have in 3 years. The like the exact opposite of continuity. Plus they'll have to do it with a QB with less than a full season's experience. There will be growing pains folks.

d. the WR room looks to be getting a lot better in my view with the addition of Hollins and Diggs. Plus I was a big Bourne guy. I keep on going back to the fact the guy had over 800 receiving yds his first season with us playing only about 30% of the offensive snaps. I'm hoping Josh will get that usage out of him. As for Polk, players CAN get better and survive disastrous years. We just have to look at what happened to Ryland among many other examples we know all too well. I think it can wind up being pretty solid.

e. Hey Captain. I find your comments on our new WR coach interesting. Now I'm curious about him. Tell me more. If he's so obviously THAT bad why was he hired. Is Vrabs an idiot and doomed to failure or does he know more something we don't.

Holy crap. This is huge news! Let's hope Diggs makes full recovery from the ACL. He's WR1 when he's on top of his game. He's our new WR1 regardless, isn't he? And 23m per season in this economy is actually good for a playmaker of his caliber.

BTW Nobody is gonna comment how 69 is a great number for the contract? It's gotta be a lucky deal now, right?

This is a ridiculously horrible deal. 3yr/$69M with $26M Guaranteed for a WR with attitude issues who shot himself out of 2 lockerrooms and coming off a torn ACL less than 5 months ago. Guy isn't going to be 80% of what he was in Buffalo.

Arguably the worst move of Vrabel's offseason.

We'll see, hate all his *****in', wore his welcome out in Min and Buff. He wasn't in Houston long enough to wear that 1 out.
Coming off a torn ACL is something I'm not loving even a little bit, cuz he probably won't be his NORMAL self till EOY or maybe next season.
Does he have Talent? If Course.
If he acts up, I hope Vrabes stuffs him in his fkn locker the 1st time.
