Final Comparison

PlayerStateIncomeTake-Home Pay
XFlorida$60M$37.58M
YMassachusetts$80M$42.92M

Even though Player Y earns $20M more, the higher Massachusetts state tax significantly reduces their advantage. Player Y only takes home $5.34M more than Player X, despite earning $20M more.

Conclusion:

  • Florida's no state income tax is a huge advantage for high earners.
  • Massachusetts' new 9% tax on millionaires makes a significant impact.
  • Player Y's effective tax rate is 46.35%, while Player X's is 37.37%.
AI doesn't realize that the entirety of the salary isn't taxable in Massachusetts.

Only half of it is.

Again, cut that in half because they're taxed where they play and they play half of their games in other states.

I think we all understand that but the point is valid. And it's probably exactly why he stayed where he did.

It's super cool Elon ruined twitter so now we have to wait for bluesky updates. This the guy that is running out government now I guess

That assumes it’s all paid in one year. That may affect the analysis.

Is that what you call it?

Spillane seems like an upgrade over Bentley but not a pairing that can coexist well. Depth isn't bad, so it's not like Bentley has to go now, but hard to imagine both of them with a ton of playing time barring injury.
I was surprised they didnt cut/trade Bentley, but i guess that can still happen.

Someone should do the math though.

What does 80 million in mass look like vs 60 million in Florida?

It's probably way closer than it appears.
Honestly the lack of state income tax only applies to their home games. The weather though is, IMO, a semi big thing.

You might be looking at the wrong way — could be a Tavai replacement.

Kinda like Spillane the few times I saw the Raiders play. May be a nice get

Note, however, that the Mass tax penalty only applies to half the games in the regular season, not the entire season as you assumed.

3/37 for Spillane.

Meh. I do think he and Bentley can play together fine.

Congrats to 2025's KJ Osborn.
Pats social was hyping KJ Osborn up like he was a star lmao
