No. I don't think trading draft capital for an injured player on a big contract out of sheer desperation and panic 40 mins into legal tampering is the smart move.
But people wanted Godwin who's had multiple horrific injuries in recent seasons and is 3 years older.

If anything Aiyuks value will never be lower, he had 2500 yards in 22/23 seasons one injury for a guy in his mid 20's is not something you'd expect to slow him down long term.

I had mentally prepared myself for the Pats signing few or even zero meaningful FA on offense.

I honestly believe the team’s star is so tarnished at the moment that no one prefers to play there of they have options .

It’s almost like a reverse discount…”I’ll take less NOT to go to NE”.

Gonna have to draft REALLY well for a fee years.

Yes its early. But this franchise is barreling toward another top 5 pick.
This is what “aggressive” looks like to Wolf Vrabel and Kraft.
Loser organization for 6 years now
Afraid to take any risks

Look at what the Bears have done. Rebuilt their entire OL already

Let’s make our hottest cheerleader GM,
And just let pats fans tell her who to draft and sign she can handle the recruiting.

Let someone make the docs.
She doesn’t even have to make contracts she literally just sexed them into signing.

Curios to see the math .
Per ChatGPT:

Final Comparison

PlayerStateIncomeTake-Home Pay
XFlorida$60M$37.58M
YMassachusetts$80M$42.92M

Even though Player Y earns $20M more, the higher Massachusetts state tax significantly reduces their advantage. Player Y only takes home $5.34M more than Player X, despite earning $20M more.

Conclusion:

  • Florida's no state income tax is a huge advantage for high earners.
  • Massachusetts' new 9% tax on millionaires makes a significant impact.
  • Player Y's effective tax rate is 46.35%, while Player X's is 37.37%.

And a better player, and cheaper and wouldn't cost a 3rd round pick.

As well as the price of real estate good weather.

Spillane seems like an upgrade over Bentley but not a pairing that can coexist well. Depth isn't bad, so it's not like Bentley has to go now, but hard to imagine both of them with a ton of playing time barring injury.

Robert Spillane

run defense grade from PFF

2024 - 87,3
2023 - 89

Pass defense

2024 - 48.8
2023 - 59

Again, cut that in half because they're taxed where they play and they play half of their games in other states.

Thinking the same.

So this is not a unreasonable amount of money for Godwin to stay home where he has it made.

All of a sudden the 20 mil doesn't look like such a big deal.

Yeah we need to save those 3rd rounders to draft another WR who can't play, why spend it on proven NFL talent.
