Shemar Stewart: We Need To Have The Conversation

Ziggy Ansah would be another good comp. Middling production, oozing talent.

I love athletes. It's fun for me to watch the combine. But I don't like Stewart that much on tape. He has zero idea of how to disengage tackles and his feet too often stop as soon as he makes contact. All of his flaws appear coachable, but right now he looks like a fifth round player in the games I've watched. Yes, the potential is there, but it's hard for me to imagine taking him at 4 overall. Too many other productive players whose explosiveness actually shows up in games.

By contrast, I really liked Danielle Hunter's tape, and I was very disappointed we didn't draft him the year he declared for the NFL. They each only had 4.5 sacks and then went on to tear up the combine, but Hunter's success was easy to see coming. I'll admit that I'm not as meticulous with my reviews as I used to be before I had a bunch of kids who (rightly) take more of my time, so I may not have seen the more positive flashes with Stewart, but I'm just a bit tepid on his prospects.

Who won? I'd call it a draw ‍

Myles Garrett college production made him a much more sure bet on draft day. I don't think you gamble on Stewart at #4. You either draft blue chip or trade down if not available.

I expect 2 QBs to be gone by the time we get to pick #4 that means we are guaranteed to land either Abdul Carter or Travis Hunter. Just take one of those two. If those are really gone for some weird reason, mathematically unlikely, just trade down and draft another good player, picking up a 2nd for another draft piece.

Ziggy Ansah love his name.

Shemar Stewart work rate. And look where he's being lined up; that might explain his lack of production.

Shemar Stewart playing from the wide-9

Shemar Stewart had the third best run defense grade in CFB last year. What if he's Jadeveon Clowney rather than Von Miller? Would that be worth the 4th pick in this years draft?

I think we need to have that conversation.

Given how this defense might look i think Stewart could make a lot of sense. White, Barmore, Milton Williams and Stewart looks like a pretty nice 4 man attacking front to me.

I'm kinda talking myself back into it. If we want 4th pick value from our 4th pick, Stewart, more than anyone, gives you a shot at it and if you can get comfortable with the floor of a very good, athletic run defending EDGE, then perhaps that's worth taking a shot on the upside. Aside from, maybe, Jaylin Noel, no-one has nailed the pre-draft process as well as Stewart.

I prefer the flexibility of both Stewart and Graham over Carter. Obviously Carter and Graham have the production over Stewart BUT...

33 Hurries over 315 pass rush snaps
Vs
43 Hurries over 350(Carter) and 20 over 338(Graham)

Equates to the following:

10% for Stewart
12% for Carter
6% for Graham

But check my math because I'm too old for data collecting unless I'm in charge of a large corporation lol

When did Graham all of a sudden become an edge? You can't compare the two different positions with % like this. Of course the inside d-line won't get to the QB as much as an edge. That doesn't mean the d-line is not as good. Take away the Eagles d-lane and Josh Sweat does nothing.

I'm not ready to create a Membou thread JUST YET LOL

but here's some excellent tape of Membou vs Shemar Stewart.
