I climaxed after reading that transcript: Vrabel is going to let the Coordinators have their inputs.
The only input AVP/covington had was putting cream or sugar in wolf coffee last season

Don't remind us Real: still trying to get that abysmal year behind me.

Hearing him speak for less than a minute tells me that Mayo was clearly a placeholder. Had Mayo not had the $10M buyout clause, Vrabel would’ve already been here.
Highly agree. RKK agreed to give Mayo the job out of if personal fondness for him.. I truly believe Mayo's a good dude but not a HC.. we should be fired up as a patriots fan we know this team is going to compete and be well coached.

Big difference from last season. This season, we have a competent HC and Franchise QB! Players will want to come here!
"Franchise" QB managed 1 earned victory while stable pony Brisset and 3rd stringer Milton combined for 3 in half the games.

Time will tell if NE is even a modestly desirable destination

"OK Karen..."

She's the new teacher's pet.

I know twin... they were in over thier heads.. AVP I give him credit for development of Drake.. but don't forget he wanted Brissett to start.. Brissett cost him his job

Watching Brissett trying to complete a pass over 5 yards last season should tell you all you need to know.

Also Vrabel's said Williams will be calling plays.. I'm sure wozzy is excited to hear this.

This makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside.

What I hope for is that he has the clout and/or the ability to enforce this vision, or at least persuade the FO to follow his vision.

One of his quotes seems to indicate otherwise: "But, I'm confident that we will be aggressive. We started some of those discussions internally."

I like him phrasing it in this manner rather than “we’re going to burn some cash” because it’s letting us know they plan to do all in their power to be active in the free agent market while guarding against promises that may not be kept whether through their own discretion or the prospective players’.

Definitely has the clout, Vrabel worked his way up the ladder of success as a coach.. being in different spots is what helped him to become a great HC. He has the say, the vision and I feel like the organization as a whole has the same vision.. that is getting the Patriots back to a contender.

That was a hot topic that day as many of us thought that press conference was bizarre.
I don't know if he was a placeholder for Vrabel. I tend to think they eff'd up with the contract and painted themselves in a corner, only to have the guy they really wanted become available as they were, essentially, walking down the aisle to marry Mayo. Then I think they doubled down on the eff up when they said fekk it, let's see how he does. I have said all along that Mayo's mandate was to Not Be Bill. Not winning, not rebuilding, not teaching... just be 180 degrees from Bill.

To your point, the Thunder comment was far too chummy for a rookie HC to be making. He was in over his head from the word go, and a big part of that is RKK's doing, in my opinion anyway.

Just don't be like Bill was, Jerod. Everything else will take care of itself.

Regardless, Vrabel is here, and they are clearly back to being at the very least taken seriously in the NFL.

What I meant was that Bob didn't think Vrabel was going to get fired in Tennessee, so he wanted to lock up Mayo in fear of losing him. Once Vrabel got fired after the 2023 season, Bob was on the hook with Mayo. If Mayo proved Bob wrong and had a good season, great. But if he didn't, Bob was going to pivot quickly and get Vrabel which he did.
