Offseason player acquisition thread

Jonathan Jones, wants to stay in New England and wants to get back to winning ways.
I want Jonathan to not get burned consistently,
Jones was clutch here, maybe he can get back to being that guy.

4-6 mill a year a range.
Yeah, he looked pretty washed at the end of last year, and he's definitely not going to get any better - that number you mentioned is a good number for a depth guy, especially one who can play multiple positions, including safety, the one spot where he actually played pretty decently last year.

I'm fine with keeping him here, so long as they're not asking him to take a starting role. He's certainly better in a depth spot than some of the board binkies people like to mention (Dial, Austin, etc).

I agree with you. Depth role, rotation player at this point. Dial and Austin are still young developing players. They project to get better under Vrabel and Williams. Jon Jones was once a dial and or Austin.. too.. he got better as an UDFA.

Great observations. I just feel Jackson might I ch above 25 million considering the demand for LT from contending teams. I would honestly be ok if we signed a mid range vet who can last for 6-8 games while allowing Rookie and Lowe to get better and takeover. I am not completely done with Lowe and feel he might become better as the group improves on a overall basis. Better left guard play could help him become better .

Conerly seems to be sleeper pick this year and my gut says he could be OT equivalent of Sam la porta who was my binkie .
You mean this guy?

No thanks! I suppose if he's all that's left at 38 I'd be reluctantly ok with it lol

His ass got handed to him. Gotta give him credit though, he didnt let it happen again.

I'm more than fine with adding a starting CB. However, I suspect that Jones would still be the best nickel that we have.

I am really hoping that players decide to go to market because they know the Pats can over pay. I think overpaying is what it will take, because honestly if a team wants to resign a player they can make it work as long as the owner want to give more cash via extension or restructure. The bill will eventually come due like with the Saints.

He is a good player and a leader, injuries were a big part of him looking bad last year. Given his age I agree that the team should not invest big money or depend on him to help carry the defense. I hope they find a way to make it work next year.

I saw that someone mentioned earlier that they could sign people and make the 1st year cap hit around 10M (presumably to sign more people), but don't forget that we have 125M in 2026. That means if we try to sign a bunch of people in 2025 at low cap hits then it will be a much bigger cap hit in 2026. The signing bonus is prorated over the length of the contract, so if your signing bonus is 40M that is already a 1st year cap hit of 10M.

Example: Sign Tee Higgins 4/120M with a 10M cap hit in 2025 would look like the following over the course of the contract.

Signing Bonus
38M
Base Salary
Prorated bonus
cap number
2025
2.5M
9.5M
12M
2026
18.5M
9.5M
28M
2027
25.5M
9.5M
35M
2028
35.5M
9.5M
45M

This is just an FYI, so when we sit around and write out our FA wish list remember that manipulation of the cap this year will have ramifications down the line. According to Over the cap, we have 119.8M in 2025 and 125.8 in 2026. a contract like this would give us 107.8 in 2025 and 97.8 in 2026.

Looking forward to the actual action, and not all these click bait useless articles from sporting news, SI, etc titled, “Patriots look like ideal landing spot for player X”. Then it’s just referencing some unknown writer or talking head rattling someone off.

Here you go

Simmons just has a nasty non stop motor
Technically sound on highlight videos
I think he is the best OT in this draft
If his knee checks out then move down and grab him if we don’t address it in FA
I like Carter, Graham and Simmons
Trenches is the starting point

Man why are you so enthusiastic about overpaying?

Let’s see financial discipline and good talent evaluation. We are much better off not overspending and building a solid roster than overspending for some flashy pieces and leaving holes elsewhere.
