Offseason player acquisition thread

All depends on if Barmore is coming back, but the Patriots have to invest in their front 7 regardless. If you told me in 2 years that only Keion and Anfernee remain from Godchaux, Barmore, Wise, Ekuale, Tavai, Bentley and Takitaki, I would say that is NOT surprising.

So, you can take Deandre Hopkins, JuJu S-S, Hollwood Brown and Xavier Worthy, but they don't make a difference if your OL has been totally collapsed by a marauding line.
Giardi reported he's been back at the facility working out for weeks now. So hopefully he's fully ready and can get back to himself. Also Hollywood I'd be willing to look at.

Key upcoming dates:

Feb 18 begins a 2 week period for franchise tags.
Feb 24 - Mar 3 draft combine
March 10 noon free agency negotiations begin, agreements can be announced.
March 12 4pm new league year begins. Trades are allowed again, and FA agreements can become official signings.

Just curious, because I don’t understand all the ins & outs… How does Josh McDaniels “handle” the situation right now where his offensive plan could be drastically different after free agency and the draft than it is right now. Is it “normal” to have so much uncertainty about what his personnel will be at this point? There may be grand plans to get “this guy or that guy”, but there are lots of things out of his/their control.
I just don’t recall too many situations where a team’s makeup is so up in the air, we are talking about revamping so many spots… And wondering how Josh specifically would be handling that at this point.

I suspect he has a plan and they will find the best players they can to execute that plan

That is excellent news regarding Barmore

Unlike with their OL, the Pats actually have a couple of players up front who can win one-on-ones in Christian Barmore (health pending, though he is working out) and Keion White.

I just needed to laugh at this. Read the article from the ticker saying 3 potential cut candidate for pats offseason…
Kendrick Bourne, Ben Brown and JaMycal Hasty…Bourne ok…but I think my 7 year old daughter to come up with two more compelling names than the other two. Hell I didn’t know they were on the team.

I can remember some time ago you mentioned in a post about how important the trenches were. Your correct.. I got so caught up with wanting that splash WRs.. the front 7 and OL are pivotal for us to run a functioning offense and sound, and disciplined defense. Props to you Zuma on this!

Well yeah...build the trenches 1st. I don't think I've said it in a while but kudos to you for remembering. If Barmore is healthy then I hope they can get Carter. If not Carter then I hope an OT has a majestic combine work out and we snag him. We'll see.

Agreed. I see the paths for us to become a contender a gain. We've reset the coaching and not is about the roster. LT primarily.. even if we were lesser at RT shoring up LT helps the offensive immensely.

The bigger question is, does Crosby still have legs?

I have been playing with this interactive team management feature. It allows you to sign the player according to their "market valuation" It calculates the cap number for you and calculates when you do a custom extension, putting in your own numbers. I guess I did not realize how much they could make the cap number stretch.

They will start building the roster around Vrabel’s criteria for defensive players and MacDaniels needs for the offense this offseason, but getting all those pieces in place on both sides of the ball will take 3-4 offseasons to complete. But I’m really looking forward to see how they go about the process, especially with over 150 million to spend and high draft picks in each round.

I am too.. don't know If it's gonna take 3 or 4 seasons but I'm with you I'm interested in seeing how they spend.. I'm all about the trenches first and foremost. Washington was just like us.. new coaching staff and rookie QB. Impressed what they did in a year's time. With sound coaching last season we win 8 games at least.
