NFL GAME DAY DISCUSSION Super Bowl LIX Game Day Thread: KC ChiRefs vs Philadelphia Eagles

To your point this is a critical off-season for KC.

They need major help on the line and need to find the next safety valve replacing Kelce.

Because of Mahomes's ability, I think they can get by with Worthy and Rice (assuming he comes back 100%) at WR.

He turns 30 in Sept so in theory he is in his prime. They need to keep him upright and throw more and run less if they want him to last past 35

I think we will see them go after either Josh Conerly LT or Colston Loveland TE in the draft, if either fall that far.

It will be interesting to see if his athleticism, which enables everything he does off platform, starts to deteriorate as he ages. He’s not a pure pocket passer, and I’m not sure he can transition to where that is his primary game.

Chiefs excuse now is they were tired of going to the Super Bowl?

To be fair, I think most people outside of Kansas City were tired of the Chiefs going to the Super Bowl as well! Hopefully they’ll have a nice, long, well-earned, multiple year break from reaching the Super Bowl. Everyone wins!

Agree. This Chiefs offseason seems different than the others. Instead of a couple of things they need to just shore up there are core issues at OL, WR, TE.

I'm also wondering if Reid - at 66 truly has the energy to lead a program, add talent, and the creative juices to evolve a dynamic offense.

We saw BB's decline in these areas. It can happen to the best of them without warning.

I don't buy this as the reason they lost for a second.
They lost because Mahomes got his ass kicked. Defensively, they keyed on Saquon and dared the Eagles to beat them with Hurts, which he/they did.

No question...Line issues. Decline of Kelce. Limited production at WR and RB all year. Thats why they lost.

Super Bowl fatigue....you have got to be kidding me.

I did see a clip of Kelce standing in a single spot while Mahomes ran for his life. While I'll grant that I don't know what Kelce's assignment is when the QB scrambles away from him, I have a hard time believing "take a nap" is the coaching point. Fairly certain the game was decided at that point, but I cannot imagine anyone in a Pats uniform doing that to Tom Brady.

The only reason the Chiefs went as far as they did was because of the refs and the rest of the AFC was really that bad. They had no business going 15-1 through week 17.

Maybe the rest of the AFC will get the memo and actually start trying to improve their teams while the Chiefs continue their decline. Ravens only have a short window with Henry, so they better go all in this offseason. Buffalo has too many needs and they are past their expiration date. There will be teams that catch up to them soon.

Yea I saw that as well and I don't know what to make of it. I think his initial instinct is to make himself a target when he seems Mahomes scrambling. No question he was beyond frustrated at that point in the game. Hes been a HoF pro and historically come up big in title games.

Travis also made the comment to his brother playing 3 extra games taxes the body and mind. He eerily sound like Gronk after the Philly loss.

On Wednesday's episode of New Heights, Travis told his older brother Jason that 'wear and tear' could tempt him to hang up his cleats this offseason.

'The fact that we keep going to these AFC Championships and these Super Bowls, that means I'm playing an extra three games than everybody else in the entire league,' he explained.

'That's a lot of wear and tear on your body and it's a lot of time spent in the building, focusing on your craft, focusing on the task at hand, every challenge that you set up for yourself. That process can be grueling, it can weigh on you.

'It can make you better [but] it can drive you crazy at the same time, and right now it's one of those things where it was kind of driving me crazy this year. It happens when you kind of tail off towards the back nine of your career. When you feel yourself not have the success that you used to have, it's a tough pill to swallow.

I get his point but that is not why they lost.

I think there's something to the toll on the body, and there's a reason that guys playing beyond their mid to late 30s is rare, QBs not withstanding. I think there's a toll on the mind as well.

Why the hell am I putting myself thru this when I can go sit on a beach with TayTay?

That doesn't take in the consideration of the amount of mental energy it takes to stay at that level of competition for an extended period. All of it, the work outs, the film study, nutrition, the extra body care/maintenance/recovery and putting up with the coaching needed to be successful.

I would also imagine that there's other outside interests now as well, and those take away from the focus needed to compete for a Super Bowl.

I don't question that it's hard, both mentally and physically.

This isn't why they lost. They aren't that good of a team, and Mahomes if you dig into his play, isn't that great of a QB. He is a great playground QB, but not in the truest sense. Brady and Manning were the two best I ever saw at playing QB as a field general. Brady was even better than Manning at it.

Thats why they lost. Mahomes can't really succeed without the refs bailing them out. How many times in the regular season would any number of those sacks end up with a roughing the passer? About half of them, even though they weren't. Plus the line was getting away with holding, or false starts either as they have been for half a decade now.

The NFL ripped the reffing bandaid off after the uproar and the world saw the average Chiefs for what they are.

I think that is painting Mahomes as something less than he is. He's a very clutch player with unique gifts. I agree he's no where near Manning, Brady or even (ugh I hate to say it ) Rodgers. I have said all along that Mahomes is Russell Wilson 2.0, better and less apt to leave his line in a poor position, but he ain't at that other level. I think Mahomes can succeed without being bailed out, but the league's propping him up ended Sunday. His surrounding cast this year is probably their weakest of their SB teams. I am not surprised they lost.

His game is pretty similar to Russ yeah, just a more talented thrower. Uses his legs alot but pretty good at avoiding a ton of contact. I wonder if his prime will be similar in length, Russell had a bit of a decline after year 10.

Russ's issues are between his ears IMO.

You can look at Russ's # and see it was at age 33, his 10th year in the league in which he became an average QB.

No one gave a **** when the Pats played extra games year after year after year. Its lame to say that, since playing extra games is the point. That's right up there with the Dolts' participation banner...

The Pats won 21 goddamn games in a row lol, including an SB, and then went on to win another after losing to the Steelers in Oct.

Next excuse!
