An unexpected comparison led me to this:

Burrow's rookie season - 2020
Bengals had 4 wins. It was Taylor's 2nd year as HC.
10 games played. 2688yds, 13 TD, 5 INT, 142yds Rush, 3 Rush TD's

Maye's rookie season - 2024
10* games played. 2276yds, 15 TD, 10 INT, 421yds Rush, 2 Rush TD's
Pats had 4 wins. It was Mayo's 1st year as HC.

Interesting...
In '21 the Bengals - drafted Chase, replaced 3 of 5 OL, signed Hendrickson (3 new DL), and a top CB, and they went to the SB.

In '25 the Patriots... TBD

Hopefully the changes we make won’t lead to seasons of over hyped, over paid mediocrity.

*I missed the whole went to the SB part. Yes. I’ll have some of that please. With a better result and following seasons would be great.

Well no one in Chase's stratosphere in this class, draft or FA, so might as well kill this thread now.

I'm not even a fan of drafting a rookie WR as our savior. But, we could get a trade or FA to play that role.
Point is - the Bengals realized their issues, and totally revamped their team in one offseason for Burrow's 2nd year.

We should be able to do the same with our cap $$ and draft position.

Who overpaid for mediocrity?

Buzzkill Headcase: living up to your name.

PF2 Burrow and chase already had a connection In college that led right into the pros.. we have the coaching now it's about getting the trenches set.. set the trenches and add at WR and we are right back in it..

Build the O-Line or like Joe Burrow, Drake Maye will suffer serious season ending injuries over his rookie contract.

Drake looks more like Andrew Luck, he can run.
Totally agree. Offensive line is priority #1.

That said, there's enough money where you can walk (Offensive line) and chew gum (Higgins) at the same time.

Get Chris Godwin instead. Also add some value vets like Darius Slayton, Marquise Brown or others.

4 years in a row now teams have gone from the gutter to winning at least one playoff game the following season.

21-bengals
22- jax
23-texans
24- commanders

Its possible if you make the right moves.

29 - Coming off an ACL injury
- Complete Bust
- Coming off a broken collarbone, also is already on Kansas City.

We can and should do better when the money's there. There's no need to dumpster dive.

Godwin will be substantially cheaper. Slayton has been a good receiver on a terrible team with a terrible QB. Brown is a free agent.

Higgins isn’t a #1, moreover he has never stayed healthy… no need to pay a Rolls Royce price for a Honda.

That's what I'm saying but we have to hit in FA and the Draft. It would be nice if the rest of our 24 Draft can contribute ie... Polk - Wallace and Baker.

Yes, Godwin will be substantially cheaper - because he's 29 and coming off his second major injury.
Slayton hasn't ever had more than 50 catches in a season. KJ Osborn had better numbers than he did.
Higgins would be a #1 on this team, and completely change the dynamic on the field. Imagine Pop Douglas running into a vacated zone out of the slot? Imagine teams not stacking 8 and 9 in the box on every play?

If you don't value the position, just say so. And I agree the offensive line, preferably 3 players, should be added before doing anything else. But who cares how much money he's making, when the money has to be spent anyway?

I'm not going into another year with Mike Onwenu making the most money on the team, I just can't do it.

The irony of Maye’s first year injuries were him running out of the pocket into the open field and not protecting himself.

However, we all know how bad the O-line is. This needs to be the primary focus. WR’s will definitely be signed as well. Not the KJ Osborne nonsense last year.

KJ Osborn would have substantially better numbers now with Vrabel than he did with Mayo, Slayton would have better numbers with Drake Maye than Daniel Jones. This is how football works. Godwin would be signed to a reasonable 2-3 year deal and he’s actually a #1, Higgins isn’t.

Being the best WR on a team doesn’t make a WR a #1, otherwise every team would possess a #1. Higgins is a very good #2 who wants #1 money.

Money spent on Higgins is money that could be spent elsewhere.

Onwenu will play better with better coaching and scheme, all our players will.

Thats where Maye needs to take a page out of Mahomes book and be more aware and smarter about protecting himself when he is running outside the pocket.

In his two concussions he should have gone OOB way before being hit vs the Chargers.

vs the Jets that was a bit dirty but he (in theory) should have slid sooner.

Hopefully Vrabel and Josh can coach him to use more common sense in that regard.

Im talking about the Bengals once they shell out all the dough. Keeps the star power in tact but the team is mediocre.
