Matt P has been hanging out with Squirrel and talking football for some epic podcasts. I found this brief summary that just dropped to be an absolutely stellar exposition describing the Art of Defensive Coaching. Extremely informative and fun to watch. I’d be happy to bring a keg of my homebrew beer if I got to hang with them for talks like this.

Hope everybody else enjoys this as much as I did.

Obvious candidate to run a team’s offense amirite?

To be fair, he played on the offensive side of the ball in college and thinks OL play is the most interesting unit. I wouldn't have picked him as my OC either, but there's at least some level of reasoning there. I didn't know that until I watched this. It is an interesting interview.

That was awesome. Matty P is looking good too. Good for him.

He is obviously quite intelligent. Where he breaks down is having no 'gut' feel for when to change strategy. There are times where you HAVE to NOT BEND, too. But that was what I always felt was a problem. Under Patricia, we never seemed to know when to go for the kill.

Just from this interview alone you should hear him speak about some critical moments: Hightower's strip sack or the Butler play were pretty big kill shots where he wasn't just sitting back in bend don't break. Same with the set of downs following Julio's catch.

The last coaching regime's comparative game-planning sessions:

Covington: "How do you want to handle so and so if they do this or that?"
Mayo: "**** if I know. You got any ideas?"
Covington: "Nah."
Mayo: "Just wing it. We'll figure things out next year."

He might make a decent DC somewhere, somewhere ELSE, far far away. Do they play football in Mongolia?

Don't think so. They should, there are some big Mongolians, so much so that they dominate Sumo wrestling in Japan despite Japan having 40X the population.

But there's a baseball stadium in Ulaanbaatar.

Update: there's actually a Mongolian American Football Association in Mongolia that promotes the sport.

This breakdown of the Butler play is particularly interesting:

His description of Bill staring down Pete is over the top of next level.

Posted this in the last thread, but I find it interesting he was the guy who pointed to Welker and Amendola and said "we need them."

Where'd the rest of Matty P go?
Holy ****, it almost doesn't look like him.

Agreed. I never questioned MPs football intelligence as he's a rocket engineer or some of the like..for christ sakes.. . I just as a fan didn't like the zone based allowing easy completions to keep the QBs in rhythm type of defense. The defense reached their potential under Flo.

Flo blitzed more so it was more fun to watch.

Crennel, Flo, Matty P, Stephen, Dean Pees off the top of my head that's probably my order

Dom capers. Yes and having an all pro CB like steph made it possible to send pressure. Crennel was awesome as well.. Williams is just like crennel they say.. he's an aggressive coach and demands his DL stops the run. I've never seen a DC smile more watching guys get run over like covington did last season..

Episode with Bill Burr just dropped. I haven't listened yet but I'm sure it's good for a few laughs
