When people say that Bill didn't show favorites I point them to Slater. An incredibly overrated and overpaid player who had the good fortune to be Jackie's kid. That made him an obvious favorite with Bill and Bob.

Regardless....I think he was a solid player, great teammate and just a good dude. I am certain when he retired there wasn't any coach that could tell him something about special teams that he hadn't seen. I would have liked to seen him start out as some assistant special teams coach and then after a couple years take on the role.
