Sox 2024-25 offseason news

Kind of what I expected. Get our hopes up with a left hander that could be great and then fail to land the big bat. The only great thing about landing Crochet aside from his obvious upside is they thankfully didn’t give away their best prospects for him.

It’s obvious that they are banking on the farm system to do it pretty much on their own. Kristian Cambell better be every bit of Barry Bonds if this team is ever gonna truly compete again. Still a great farm system and its getting better.

Henry was visited by 3 ghosts in 2018 and woke up the biggest cheap skate. It’s baffling that you could invest in a team, win 4 world championships and then just stop. As a fan that’s hard to process. The only team I can compare it to is the Florida Marlins. Build up the farm and then strike. Wait 10 years and do it again. Certainly not the instant gratification we are used to or the fun af hot stoves that kept us on the edge of our seats.

Walker Buehler? Are we being serious? This isn't even close to being a good enough effort to put together a roster. It's an absolute embarrassment.
Low risk, high reward signing. Cheap effs.

well, if the front office isn't going to bring in top FAs, then i want to see these farm guys get a serious shot in the bigs.

Yeah I am slowly starting to think they aren't going to pay any real money. Then again, Burnes is still out there and nobody has signed him either.

Didn't he sign with the DiamondBacks recently...?

just stopped by to see who we were in on...but didn't get.

They're not gonna sign even Bregman now either Disgraceful.

Well, we have our RH bat and upgraded our defense. I don't care what they paid for him because the deal has deferred $$$ and i believe the deal is year to year (with opt outs). So what looks like an over spend could be quite minimal. the key for me is they did all this without giving up anything in our farm system, which we would have if we signed Arenado. I think Bregman fits our team better as he is a grinder. As much as i hate to say it, good job by the front office.

Meh, not so sure I'd give the Sox an 'attaboy' for giving Bregman what he wanted in terms of $ and control (the options are his, not theirs). The Sox found an expensive bandaid to put some butts in seats. Same tune different fiddle

That's what I thought too. Damage control. Good player, I am happy they did it, but they put themselves in this position.

I've been as critical of this regime as anyone- but they absolutely stole Bregman and got him on their terms.
Bregman/Boras were adamant about getting a longterm deal- 6 years.
No f'n way would I give him 6 years he's too old.
Both the Cubs and Tigers offered him 6 years.
This was a high-stakes poker game and the Red Sox took all the chips. They called Bregmans bluff, didn't flinch and held out for a 3 yr deal , knowing this was where Bregman wanted to be.
The $ is irrelevant.
The result is they got Crochet who's only 25 for peanuts and stole Bregman.
Absolutely brilliant offseason for Breslow.
JHenry has pissed me off for years but they finally did the right thing.
They're now a legit playoff team. Only thing I'd like to see is one more of those top flight fa closers. They have great depth in the bullpen with all the lefties they signed and Whitlock is coming back and is a stud.
No reason for anyone to complain now.
Finally gave us something to cheer about.

I appreciate your even handed take. I'm pretty jaded like the Cap't at this point when it comes to the Sox. Maybe you'll be right.

Can't blame you or anyone for being jaded. I'm still a bit myself.
But as the smoke clears,Sawx are an exciting young team with still gone of the top 2 farm systems in mlb. Just a few years ago, their farm system was ranked close to the bottom and the future looked bleak. They're in great shape now and going into the future.
I will say this: was it a coincidence that Theo returned as a consultant and after many years of doing nothing to improve the team, suddenly they have this great offseason?
I don't think it's coincidence. I think he appealed to Henry's conscience about doing the right thing for the team and the fans. Epstein has a cache which he earned that no one else in the organization has. Dude is a winner and grew up a Sox fan. Any owner that wouldn't seriously listen to Theo's advice
is an idiot. So I'm not believing that Henry just decided to be honorable w/o some pushing/ prodding

Theo is a HoF front office guy. Ended two curses. I agree that if he's the guy that has Henry's ear, that's good for the team and fans alike.

And when they didn't get a 6 year offer for the money Bregman wanted Boras & Bregman got the money he wanted and an annual option to get out and cash in. Again the options are Bregman's not Boston's. Yes he addresses a need but make no mistake, he's addressing a Sox need on his terms, not theirs. I'm not trying to detract from anyone else's enjoyment, just calling it the way I see it.
By all means I hope you enjoy the season

Didn't realize he had that annual option.
But I'd say that's still a good deal for Boston and for Bregman.
I'd take that over a 6yr deal with no options.
I'd say win/win

He's just a consultant. But I'd think his word carries more weight than anybody else's for obvious reasons.
I'm speculating that he has Henry's ear because it just makes too much sense.
But you are 100% correct. It is great for the team and fans if true.
