First of all, Wolf doesn't appear to have any ego, which serves him well in this situation. He's going to always have a good job in the NFL, no job security issues. I think he just wants this team to succeed and is happy to play whatever role Kraft asks him to.

His comments about MV being very detailed about what he wants is really how every coach/front office relationship should work. The HC puts in his order, and the front office delivers. Everyone knows the deal and is rowing in the same direction. Music to my ears.
Love Wolf's talk about Vrabel knowing every position...hands on HC right there and not hands off like Mayo.

I really like that Wolf's comment is that he is following Vrabel's vision of what coach wants at each position. One clear voice is in charge and Wolf, Crowden, etc. are following Vrabel's lead.

Going to be a much different team this year. Most importantly, they're going to be a team with a unified vision, Vrable is going to do an outstanding job leading this team, imo. Go Patriots

It's easy to see why things were messy in personnel last year. Was Mayo able to articulate what kind of players he wanted, especially on offense? In free agency, they seemed to really focus on keeping their defense intact because Mayo most likely told Wolf that he was going to "run it back" with the same defensive scheme/plan that Belichick ran, but then obviously they were incompetent and incapable of actually doing that. And beyond all of that, Wolf was not actually the "EVP of Player Personnel" at all until after free agency and the draft were both long over, so his hands may have been a bit tied.

I agree with the first part about Mayo having no clue, so Wolf was left to his own ideas of what kind of players fit. But he mentioned even before the draft that he was in charge of picking the players. Kraft later claimed that no, Kraft was in charge of picking the players, but it was obviously Wolf.

I think Wolf is the kind of guy who wants to be collaborative and will fall into Vrabel's orbit very easily. Vrabel will say exactly what he wants and when he wants it. But he'll be open to hearing other points of view.

When did Kraft claim that he picked the players?

Yeah I think it’s probably hard to have a vision on building a team when the staff doesn’t really know what kind of team they want, and thus you also don’t have much to pitch to free agents either.

LOL at all this ****ing praise of someone who absolutely ****ING SUCKED at his job last year and who’s ALWAYS looking to deflect criticism.

**** Ron Wolf’s boy… and Al Groh’s boy too.

When did Kraft claim that he picked the players?
Yeah, if Kraft picked the players, that would explain a ton about this last draft….

When did Kraft claim that he picked the players?
He had to because otherwise the Pats went around the Rooney Rule in promoting Wolf without interviewing minority candidates for the GM (essentially) position. Kraft claimed that he was responsible for picking the players until after the draft when Wolf got the job title.

We've known his title for weeks, I don't see how it means there's any kind of trouble
Too many Chefs spoil the dinner. Too many Chiefs ruin the NFL.

They want Vrabel to cook the meal, but he cant buy the groceries.

Maybe I'm in the minority but I don't see this as a shot at Mayo. Not every compliment of the new guy insinuates offense at the old guy
According to some on this board it is. I refer to them as the idiots

Wolf specifically said that he was buying the groceries that Vrabel wants and that he appreciates Vrabel telling him what he wants.

Vrabel alluded to that during one of his interviews.

So what youre trying to tell me is that its confirmed (i cant find anything) that Kraft picked Maye, Polk, Baker etc? That Kraft ran the draft? I cant believe this hasnt been blown up if true. It would make so much sense as to why the draft appears to have been run by someone who had no idea what theyre doing.

No, I’m saying that Wolf made the picks, told them to Kraft, Kraft said yes and those were the picks. I’ll go back and look but there was some reporting after the draft about Wolf getting promoted where Kraft said the final decision on the picks was his. And yeah, technically they were.

Gotcha. Wolf made the picks, Kraft just signed off on them.
