First of all, Wolf doesn't appear to have any ego, which serves him well in this situation. He's going to always have a good job in the NFL, no job security issues. I think he just wants this team to succeed and is happy to play whatever role Kraft asks him to.

His comments about MV being very detailed about what he wants is really how every coach/front office relationship should work. The HC puts in his order, and the front office delivers. Everyone knows the deal and is rowing in the same direction. Music to my ears.

Love Wolf's talk about Vrabel knowing every position...hands on HC right there and not hands off like Mayo.

Going to be a much different team this year. Most importantly, they're going to be a team with a unified vision, Vrable is going to do an outstanding job leading this team, imo. Go Patriots

It's easy to see why things were messy in personnel last year. Was Mayo able to articulate what kind of players he wanted, especially on offense? In free agency, they seemed to really focus on keeping their defense intact because Mayo most likely told Wolf that he was going to "run it back" with the same defensive scheme/plan that Belichick ran, but then obviously they were incompetent and incapable of actually doing that. And beyond all of that, Wolf was not actually the "EVP of Player Personnel" at all until after free agency and the draft were both long over, so his hands may have been a bit tied.

Yeah I think it’s probably hard to have a vision on building a team when the staff doesn’t really know what kind of team they want, and thus you also don’t have much to pitch to free agents either.

He had to because otherwise the Pats went around the Rooney Rule in promoting Wolf without interviewing minority candidates for the GM (essentially) position. Kraft claimed that he was responsible for picking the players until after the draft when Wolf got the job title.

No, I’m saying that Wolf made the picks, told them to Kraft, Kraft said yes and those were the picks. I’ll go back and look but there was some reporting after the draft about Wolf getting promoted where Kraft said the final decision on the picks was his. And yeah, technically they were.
