I don't know if I would consider Dakota from Braintree a reliable source, but I will post this here anyway.

Gotta admit, I don't understand the financial part of JMD's contract with the Raiders - I thought they'd be on the hook until 2028 at around $10M/year ... Does him joining another staff negate that?

Love the Josh hire but my biggest concern is how Maye picks up the offense.

After watch Curran's podcast and reading this article, Brian Hoyer makes me feel a little better.

Good article by Karen
Josh would have to sell Vrabel on developing Maye and what type of system to use
He is known to be very cerebral as a OC
I would rather we have a OC where Vrabel can delegate that part the team to focus on his duties

I’m fine with them adding as many assistant coaches as they feel they need, my only point was that I don’t think Hoyer is an expert on the mechanics, as he has only been a player and a talking head. However they may want to be careful that they don’t put too many voices in his head. Ultimately I would expect Vrabel and MacDaniels to decide on his coaching together.
Too many voices is definitely a concern. However the staff comes together there needs to be a unified approach with clear roles and responsibilities.

I understand that sentiment. But, Josh is a very good OC in his own right.
We could have gambled with M. Brady, or Caley, but JMD is a very experienced schemer & playcaller.
I'm excited to see how he's adapted some new things from his year learning the college game.
I think it's great for Maye, Pop, Bell, Gibson... but a death toll for Polk & Baker.
Also - Pats - DO NOT draft a top WR now. They will be busts!
I have always been more pro-Josh than most, but I just wanted someone with a fresh set of eyes more than anything. The thing that gives me some hope is that Josh did incorporate some RPO packages in the Cam Newton season, so it isn't unreasonable to think he will work that into the offense for Maye. On the other hand, my biggest worry is that McDaniels has Maye running the Brady passing offense, which is heavily reliant on precision and timing. Of course, you want your QB to be dialed in when it comes to those things, but a big part of what Maye can do better than any other quarterback Josh has had is his ability to extend plays with his legs and buy guys time to get open. I made the analogy the other day about having a Ferrari and not taking it out of 2nd gear. At some point, I hope McDaniels gets Drake Maye out on the highway and lets him open it up.

Get him the Weapons in FA and the Draft.

It was the right decision. Culter was a turd and locker room cancer. He was an average at best QB. McDaniels was right to trade him in hindsight. McDaniels' problem is he ultimately replaced Culter with Tebow rather than a real QB.
McDaniel's was the real turd, and a locker room cancer. Every single person in both the Broncos and Raiders organization's despised his guts. He was a team wrecker. His "Don't talk about the patriots that way" speech to the raiders is one of the most embarrassing stories I have ever read about. McDaniel's MO is he got rid of talented players and replaced them with inferior talents who acted as 'yes men' to his draconian style leadership.

Let's just hope Vrabel has him under the microscope and limits his power. As long as he sticks to developing Maye and nothing else (NO PERSONNEL DECISION MAKING), he should be ok.

Ken. I’m happy to see you back posting and I hope you are doing well. But just to clear a few things up. I have said numerous times that MacDaniels is a good OC, I just don’t like the EP offense, and I don’t like them switching offenses on Maye. I also never said anything about Brady being the only reason it worked, or anything about Vrabel not being a good X’s and O’s guy, so I think your complaints must be about other posts in this thread.

As I said yesterday when the deal was done I don’t like the decision to go back to the EP offense, but I trust that Vrabel knows what he’s doing, so I’ll just accept it.
I think you missed my point on the EP "system ". IMHO the EP at this point is more of a language than an offensive philosophy. We've seen a myriad of different kinds of offenses all run with the EP language. I think you are focusing too much on the EP being a specific offense, which it no longer is.

. I DO share your concern about making sure Drake doesn't take a step back because he has a new OC. We'll if YOU understand this, and I understand it, then for dawned sure Mike and Josh get it... AND, as far as I know, AVP has not been fired

I don't care what he did as the head coach of other teams. He is not the head coach here. He is the OC. You cannot judge him for an OC position by what he did as a head coach.

I have reservations about McDaniels being the OC, but I don't really care what he did in Denver and Las Vegas. Irrelevant.

Brian Hoyer- who has been in both offenses was on Curran's podcast said the EP and WCO are basically the same pass routes and running plays now. The differences are terminology & protection calls and running scheme.

There is a lot more responsibility on the QB in EP so we'll see how Maye handles it.

Actually Ken my concerns with EP is that it’s different than the system Maye was already learning, and two that it was always run as a timing offense in New England, and nothing is easier to disrupt than timing offenses, as Belichick demonstrated against “ The Greatest Show On Turf.” I hate timing offenses, I just want the QB to get the ball in the hands of the playmakers, and let them make plays. Which is what West Coast offenses do imo. I also don’t like the fact that they will now have to draft Rhodes Scholars for WR, as so many of them never get it.

Bottom line, what’s done is done, so I don’t really see much point in debating EP any more. It’s what they are going to run and I have no choice but to root for its success.

From "The Ringer"

OK, let’s ignore everything else and just look at how McDaniels’s offenses performed without Brady.

2008Patriots7th
2009Broncos20th
2010Broncos20th
2011Rams32nd
2020Patriots23rd
2021Patriots10th
2022Raiders15th
2023Raiders27th

Hoyer made the statement that he thinks Maye will do better in EP than the WCO. I thought that was interesting.
