In recent years a lot of top WRs get traded. Assuming there is a top guy out there in the market, I think this would be a great move for the Patriots. Bringing in a proven veteran WR1 type in a trade, given the cap money we have makes a lot of sense. It will immediately elevate the offense and give Maye a top guy to throw to opening up all of the other things we want to do. Much more than a drafted rookie would. We have picks and cap space to fix the OL as well. We are only obligated on the cap for the salary, so if an extension is warranted it’s more workable than a free agent contract.

Who do you have in mind and what are you willing to give up?

An example of how Wolf missed out on this last year was Jerry Jeudy.
A fourth rounder woukd have gotten it done.

Layden Robinson or Baker for all pro Jerry Jeudy…..

Perfect example.

Imagine McConkey and Jeudy to show for our original 2nd and 4th rounders instead of Polk and Baker. Partly hindsight, of course, but also 2 things lots of people were pounding the table for when the opportunity was still there.

I don’t know who is available. Usually it takes a mid round pick.
Id be willing to give up a mid rd pick for a solid wr option. Who’s available though? That’s the rub. People weren’t knocking down the doors clamoring for Jeudy. He turned out to be a risk worth taking. Hopefully he keeps it up. Good turnaround story. Id give up a 2nd for a proven starter that has age on their side.

Yes. This finally makes sense. And, as long as we're addressing the OL first (as Vrabel promised).
From - G. Wilson, AJ Brown (top shelf) to - D. London, J. Jennings (high-potential young vet)

PLUS - draft a 2nd/3rd rounder with SPEED as boom/bust potential (pointless to draft high WR, Pats curse exists)
Egbuka / Golden / Royals

LTs don’t get traded very often

Obviously this is influenced by Vrabel getting hired...

Think philly would free up AJ Brown as a trade candidate? He's got a huge deal going on there... designate the trade as a post June 1 deal, they still eat ten mil in cap space. but pick up 6.8 in cap savings... probably not but its nice to dream

Agreed, obtaining a top wr would be the single most effective move to making drake a better qb. Of course ot and defense will need filled too for our overall success but i think you need to do whatever for the wr either this year or next for drake’s development.

Getting a LT would be the single most effective movie to making Drake a better QB.

suppose it comes down to balancing the age old questions - which position is deeper in the draft? out of the top candidates in the two positions, which subset has the BPA...

I want a tackle... think we are taking a receiver... but that might chance now Vrabel is in town...

If we get someone who's both capable and young like Alaric Jackson (my 1st choice), then we probably take Abdul Carter or Tetairoa McMillan at #4 (I prefer Carter, or Mason Graham). Although I'd take Carter or Graham at #4 if we get Jackson and Higgins in Free Agency. Then hopefully land one of those 2nd Round WR Gems that we missed out on in two consecutive Draft's when Bill was here. I'd also love Jack Sawyer in the 2nd Round (trade back into the 2nd Round to get him a long with the WR (or a Barmore type to good to pass-up player). The more holes we can fill with talented and still young players in Free Agency, the more and better options we'll have in the Draft.

Although you build through the Draft, and we need to crush this upcoming one, this is one of those Free Agency exceptions where you have the money and can go above and beyond (with the right players), while still having a decent amount of Cap Money to carry into next year. Even if it's 15 to 20 Million, that's still pretty good if the players you get are worth it.

Why do we want to plan to carry any cap space into 2026?

Is it probable that the Rams let their starting left tackle walk in free agency? They have 46 mil in cap space, will have more when they dump Kupp... and they don't have too many big ticket free agents to sign this year... I don't think its realistic at this point... but, you never know...
