That's an interesting way to phrase it. What does she know that it's not a firing lol.

The only reporting is this Kirk Minihane
On Reddit they are saying there is no source but he’s been right in other Pats news

I was just talking to a friend yesterday
I said we must get a LT and OL in FA because I don’t like any OL in the top 10 of this draft
I love Campbell’s leadership and attitude but his arms could be a problem
Saying that OT would need a trade down which I would be fine with if we need OL desperately
#4 I like Graham a lot. Non stop motor. Great attitude.
But I am looking at Carter and Hunter also if they are there
I agree. It’s to early
But I love draft time

Same here. On the plus side with Campbell is that he’s only 21, and really experienced, but there is concern that he will have to move to guard, and they can’t use the #4 on a guard. Banks struggled and should go back to school. Simmons is the best if the bunch, but he’s coming off and ACL and may not be ready when the season starts. So it looks like they really need to get that tackle in free agency, even if it’s a guy like Stanley or Robinson on a shorter deal.

Depending on what they can get done in free agency they have a variety of options when the draft rolls around. Take Graham or Carter at #4, take Hunter if the Giants go for Carter. Or trade back, pick up a second and take Tyler Warren around 10, and then trade up for Egbuka, which would greatly enhance their passing game.

Regardless it is going to be a great offseason, and the transition from the gloom of the last few years to what I believe will be a bright future has been remarkable.

I just saw several articles confirming she is out. Just double checked, Minihane is the source, but I believe him on this.

McConkey is exactly the kind of WR Belichick preferred throughout his whole career, short area shuttle, specifically went out of his way looking for that, sometimes to his detriment. It worked with Branch who had an incredible shuttle, but failed with Chad Jackson who had the top shuttle in the NFL that year.

Drafting a DT here BTW would not have been a bad idea since Braden Fiske, T'Vondre Sweat, Jerzhan Newton would have been homerun picks right there, and don't be surprised if we use our top 1st rounder on a DT this draft.

As for CBs, no way would he have gone that route, not after already having a foursome of Gonzalez, Marcus Jones, Alex Austin (who played well in the 2nd half of last year), and Jon Jones.

Maybe Cooper DeJean, since this team definitely needs a free safety.

But again, we're talking about WR. McConkey is a prototype WR that screams Patriots under Belichick, he's in the Troy Brown, Deion Branch, Wes Welker, Julian Edelman, Danny Amendola mode.
I don't disagree with anything you said, but my first thought after I read your piece was, "Can you imagine all the cries of anger and frustration if the Pats HAD picked McConkey last April. BTW- he was my favorite WR in the 2nd round.

Can;t you hear it. HOW could they pick ANOTHER slot guy when the already have a good prospect in Douglas? We need a #one WR on the OUTSIDE, not another slot guy. ETC, ETC, ETC.

The thing to remember is some of the time it takes a year or 2 for WR's to learn how to run an NFL offense. IIRC, DJ Medcalf was considered a bust hid first year, and Marvin Harrision JR has looked like an average rookie WR, when he was regarded as a "generational talent" going into the year. Some here wanted to HIM if our QB choice wasn't there, or drop down and take him. How would that look now.

I won't write of ANY of last year's picks. I know we all give great lip service to the old adage that you can't judge a rookie until after his 3rd year, but we RARELY use it in reality.

Sounds like a bright boy.

Newton would have been a good pick as well.
Not bad, but he is a Packer fan LOL
He still thinks they should have passed on Maye and taken Alt and then Powers-Johnson

I like that idea. Grab Egbuka ( WR) with the second round pick Then move up for Sawyer.
Egbuka won’t make it to the second, sawyer will be late first or early second.

Metcalf had 900 rec yards as a rookie so no one was calling him a bust. Harrison had 885 and 8 TDs.
Those are a far cry from 82.

You can only evaluate a player by what they have done. So far Polk is the biggest wr bust in the history of the league. That doesn’t mean his career is over, but at this point in time there is little to pin any hope on.
Certainly we should approach the off season feeling his slot in the WR room is a huge need, and into next year expecting him to not contribute anything.

Seems to me like a good opportunity to trade back get the LT and add some picks.

FYI per Bedard:

Mike Vrabel will have final say on everything. Ryan Cowden is technically under Eliot Wolf, who could stay for a while if things work out, but Vrabel and Cowden are going to have the most say on any decision. Cowden is known as a good team player, and has been in a few different systems. I read this as the Krafts, like most owners, telling Vrabel that they really like their personnel department, have them under contract, and he should try them out/give them some time before doing anything drastic. Not unusual.

I think the OC search is wide open.

My dream draft scenario is if they trade back and turn 4th overall into Egbuka in the teens and a LT in the 20s.

Don't screw around like that sign a vet LT and draft Tet instead of that plan.

Scouts probably call Vrabel sawyers comp
Really hoping for good news from Barmore this year. It would make our Drafting so much easier.

Bingo.

Now that we no longer have #1 overall, the clear solution - the ONLY solution - is to trade-down from #4, multiple times if possible, and draft one of Will Campbell, Kelvin Banks, Wyatt Milum or Josh Simmons… then grab another OT early on Day 3.

Yep. Seems pretty obvious the oline (LT) is the #1 priority. Can throw to WRs unless your QB has time to throw and is not hurt.

I think RT could be addressed in free agency.

Yeah he might have his own grading system but I think it's too close to the draft to train all the scouts and get on the same page. I think they will roll with Wolf's and if it sucks...then time for more change. I like the addition of Cowden with Vrabel having the final say with personnel. Wolf and Cowden will provide input and Vrabel with make the decision. IMO Wolf won't make waves and what could he possibly do anyway? Run to Kraft? Kraft will tell him Vrabel makes the final decision.
This feels more like what a organization well a functioning organization does. The HC has the say on the roster the GM signs the players and handles contracts. Unlike mayo Vrabel has his own guy.. this feels so similar to when Bill came how he brung pioli.. some time later Bobby Greer was out. I like it. Love that the HC has the say.. you could see last season that setup for mayo wasn't going to work..
