There's no way we can afford the FA approach being similar to what we saw last season, correct?

Brown got a three year $96 million extension with a $28.5 million signing bonus and that is on top of the money they already paid him. He has $61 million worth of dead money if he is traded. Not the same thing as Diggs.
Won't we consume the ",dead money "??

But the Eagles won't absorb that dead cap hit.
I think there would have to have some sort of agreement of both teams splitting it or something IDK.. but I do know if 2 teams want to make a deal they will make it..

I've never been a supporter of free agent spending, but I think this year is the year to make some commitments. Focus on youth. Don't go for long in the tooth candidates. I picked these guys off of the list huge pats fan posted. Probably most of these won't even get to free agency. It would be nice to get a couple of them. Greenlaw and Hufanga are personal favorites.

Alaric Jackson, OT, Los Angeles Rams
Ernest Jones IV, LB, Seattle Seahawks
Charles Omenihu, DE, Kansas City Chiefs

Josh Sweat, Edge, Philadelphia Eagles

Dre Greenlaw, LB, San Francisco 49ers

Talanoa Hufanga, S, San Francisco 49ers

Azeez Ojulari, Edge, New York Giants

Trey Smith, G, Kansas City Chiefs

I like those targets, and generally agree with you, but I think there are some veteran DT’s they could add who will help for the next couple of seasons, and then would come off the books and feee up cap space just as they are really starting to contend. B.J. Hill DT Cincy, SebastianJoseph Day DT Tennessee. Jarron Reed DT Seattle, Charles Omenihu DE KC. I would also add Zach BaunLB Philly, Javon Holland S Miami.

They can get a lot done this free agency, and having Vrabel as HC, and Maye at QB will help immensely

You are positing that those running the draft will have a different approach this year.

I hope so.

Of course, BPA was right last year also.

I definitely think the approach will be different. I believe that Wolf decided to re-sign the young players they wanted to keep because the market really sucked, so he held off for this year. But I also think Vrabel will change the targets to OL and front 7 on defense, whereas I think Wolf wanted to go OL as well, but spend big for a WR, as he tried to do with Ridley and Aiyuk.

He gets' that second chance with Tee Higgins I am sure Vrabel will be on board: the collaboration according to my man @Wozzy.

A.J Brown isn't getting traded. If you listened to Vrabel on Greg Hills show, he wanted WRs that are big bodied, fast, and have large and contested catch ability.

Thats D.K to a T.
Bulk stats, yes, but his efficiency/rate stats on contested catch opportunities have been mediocre for a few seasons now

Man, it's night and day between Mayo and Vrabel, Vrabel actually knows what he's doing, I think they can be over 500 this year and maybe slip into the playoffs, a good draft might help them do better.

Imagine if we sign Tee Higgins and trade for DK Metcalf? Our WR room suddenly becomes Metcalf, Higgins, Boutte, Douglas. That would be a huge improvement!

But its the Patriots... so how likely are they to make the right moves to improve this anemic offense?

I am certainly glad that it very unlikely that no one on patriot's staff agrees with you.

Who do you want? Feel free to add manic ======= line breaks to your post

The Pats have to be willing to submit the highest offer on the table to any good free agent they want a chance to sign.

Last year they backed off Ridley when he got an offer that was bigger than they liked. If they continue to have that mindset their free agency will be just as bad.

I know every front office wants good value contracts but with the way the league is going the cap will be increasing every year and deals that seem like too much now will probably be good value later. Every gm wants to be seen as the guy who signs players to team friendly contracts, but if Wolf/Vrabel stick to that they won’t sign anyone.

Mike Vrabel ain't taking the BB approach and on the position. We are going workout both Travis Hunter and Tet McMillan.

I agree that Vrabel will value WR more than Belichick did, but he will prioritize building both lines up from weaknesses to strengths before building the WR room up. I think he will address all of their needs this offseason, as they have both the $$$ and the draft capitol to do so, but OL and defensive front 7 are his priorities.

While I agree, I don't like the idea of having priorities in the draft. BPA should be the way to go.

Sure, priority does come into play if the BPA's are very close or if we don't want the BPA (e.g. if it is a QB) in which case we trade out of the spot if we can.

I agree, they just have to be able to get the free agents they need, but if they can they will have all sorts of options in the draft.

I think the strategy has to match the market. I think they played it right last year. There was no sense in burning cash because what was available wasn't great. the worst is throwing gobs of money at someone who isn't better than what you have, and then you're right back in the same place the next year. The tough case this year will be left tackle. will there be anyone out there worth big bucks? Doesn't look like it.
