Today In Patriots History 2024: Kraft fires Bill Belichick

Fun historical team facts.

That's the problem he should have been allowed to try and fix and we never get to see if he could have done it in favor of Jerod Mayo. It was absolutely the wrong choice it's an undeniable fact.
Only if there was a binary choice Mayo or Bill.

Lawrence was
Pats had no shot at Lawrence and Jones was coming out of Bama who was running a pro style program. That’s why everybody said he had a high floor.

Only if there was a binary choice Mayo or Bill.
I must have missed the part where Kraft considered anyone other than Mayo. It was binary the moment they wrote the succession clause.

Yes like I said, only if the choice was a binary one.

Bill’s exit was his own doing as was Mayo’s.

Based on the all the dysfunction that came to light, the only way BB would have been able to turn things around is if Mayo and Wolf were fired. Still waiting on Wolf.

Bill's exit was Kraft's doing.

And like I said I still can't believe after the season we just had that people think this was the right move.

Comedy gold. BB would still be coach if Mac had the mental and physical tools that Maye has.
Then GM Bill should have known that and picked a different player in the draft.

If Bill keeps his two incompetent buddies away from his young QB and hires a real OC to work with him…he might still be here within striking distance of Shula.

I still would have rather Bill got that chance.

It's a shame that Kraft had to start planning for post Bill at the expense of supporting Bill's vision. And it's really an extra shame that his post Bill plan was as bad as it was.

This I agree with. At least he pulled the plug.
And there's no guarantee his next choice will work out better. Which again is why he should not have been in as much of a rush to throw out the greatest coach of all time.

73 years old and wants to win sooner than later. Doubtful he’d want a raw QB like Maye that may take years to hit his ceiling when more finished products were available.
Best of the rest.

Like I said, we'll never know.

I hope they make it at least a game.

We'll never know because Kraft had to try his pet project.

Maybe you'll see the light if our next coach fails too. But we definitely should have given Bill a chance to fix his own mess. We can always hire the next coach we never get that chance back to see if Bill could have fixed it.
We do know. He had several years to rebuild the team.. It got worse and he couldn't even have a better record than Mayo's disaster season the year after.

So you actually think Mayo was better for the Patriots this year than Bill would have been?

Did I say that? No. Don't put words in my mouth. I said Bill failed to have a better record than the season you are complaining about after multiple years to rebuild. He had his chance, he had full control and the team was completely ruined. Mayo being the wrong coach after is independent of the fact that Bill Belichick had every chance to do a better job rebuilding and it was a complete clown show.

And there's a reason two years later nobody wants to touch him.
