Offensive or defensive.

My boring answer would be the 3-wide, 1 TE, 1 RB set. I think it's actually more effective than the 4-wide spread, especially with Kyle Brady in there blocking, Brady seems to always have time to find one of his options.

As for the lesser used stuff, I also like any formation in which Moss is the lone wideout, ie the 1-wide, "3TE" set (more or less just an extra tackle in there) or one of only 2 wideouts in. I can see us using this in the playoffs, in bad weather, we could really run out of it, as Moss is going to take up two defenders, and then it really comes down to who wins the line. Plus I love the play action with Moss, either out of a 1 or 2 wideout set.

Anyone, anyone....Come on, we got enough threads on the weather, let's talk about something else....

I'll go with the Vrabel-at-TE goal line package.

Shotgun, one back, 3 wide, and a TE...

My nipples get hard when they go 5 wide.

3 TE 1 WR 1 RB.

I know it's not their most effective formation, but it gets me all excited when they go to that in short yardage situations.

depends - if you are talking about the current team, id have to say:

3 WR, 1 TE, 1 RB

But overall, I LOVE the straight up I:

2 WR, 1 TE, 1 RB, 1 FB

power football, I love it!

I want to see them use it for an entire series. They did some 1 wide power sets last season, mainly with Chad Jackson in to block, and it was pretty successful for Maroney. Against a beat up Dolphins D on Sunday, I would love to see them - for at least one series - line up and run right over them, with the occassional play-action and go deep to Moss.

Here's something even better, but the NEP haven't used it in years, if ever:

I call this formation The Power-T

..........RB.......RB
...............FB
...............QB
WR....T..G..C..G..T....WR

Evans (or Eckel) behind Brady, who is under Center.
Maroney and Faulk (or Eckel) split behind the FB.

The defense will have no idea which way the play will run, because of the formation's balance. Besides the power-run options to either side of Center, the FB could lead in one direction, and Brady could pitch-out to the weak-side RB headed in the other direction. Think also of the play-action possibilities, e.g.: circle routes to the RBs, WR/RB screens, etc.

I know that there are 7 WRs on the 53 (and 2 on the PS) and only 4 RBs (but none on the PS); however, the days of Rams/Colts, warm-weather, pass-happy offense are over. It's time to acknowledge the calendar, forget about stats (except for maybe Payaton's record) and start playing Patriots Playoff Offense.

Long live the Dink and Dunk. It will keep TB healthy, and our Ancient Mariner LBs off the field.

I never thought about my favorite formation.
I guess I have to say the ones that work.
Which is, most of them.

manage'a twah ...........in the blitz package of course. :snob:

Does anyone remember seeing a 2 TE, 3 WR formation? I think that would be pretty cool in the shotgun. One of the TE's can stay home and block if there is a blitz or they both can or both can go out and flood the defense with targets.

Against the Colts I love the 2 TE 1 RB 2 WR set. But we seem to rarely use it against them.

But the 3 wide 1 TE 1 RB set suits us best against most teams.

Groping 3 wide with 2 underneath on a subway is the preferred formation.
