Now that Jerod is gone, it's only a matter of time until we hear players telling the truth of what it was really like in the locker room.
His “guys” on defense will keep defending for now but eventually some offensive dude will probably spill the beans after he gets cut.

I've been going down memory lane all day, and I really don't a recall a bigger trainwreck in Boston Sports coaching history than the Mayo debacle. There were moments with other guys:

Jimy Williams
Bobby Valentine
Rod Rust
Pete Carroll
Rick Pitino
Steve Kasper

I'm sure that I'm missing some. But I've never seen anything quite like this.

From the befuddled looks to the maddeningly conservative game management, to the trainwreck press conferences ("burn some cash", "thundercat", etc) promising the best qb would play, the walk backs, to the zillion penalties, to the hilarity of inconsistency, to throwing guys under the bus in a backhanded way, it was so bad that I almost can't even believe that it happened.

And BTW, f any of the media that criticizes Kraft for doing what absolutely needed to be done. ESPECIALLY local media. Are you listening, Gasper? The team does NOT have the same talent as last year because this team has a quarterback. And last year's team did not.

Gasper came off a little prickish in RKK's press conference. He's been campaigning on Mayo's behalf all year at the expense of objectivity. Besides that, he's just dead wrong.

Mayo absolutely was a debacle, just embarrassing. Your list does recall moments but I thought Pete Carroll by and large got a bum rap here. He went on to vindicate himself elsewhere, of course.

3...2....1
Greg Bedard on Boston Sports Tonight said that Mike Giardi has a story coming out tomorrow with quotes from players (likely anonymous IMO) stating that they felt they were at a competitive disadvantage and were flying by the seats of their pants.

Can we interview Covington for HC?
I think that would count as a Rooney Rule candidate. Unless internal candidates are somehow excluded? But that would seem discriminatory.

It would be fun watching him game plan against the Jets.
Jets will be totally different by then. No more Mr. Ayahuasca, new coach, different systems. But a nice grudge match anyway.

There's a moment when a member of a cult sees the leader for what he truly is, an evil scam artist, and for BK, that was Sunday. Bob left the Cult of Mayo.
He saw it a month or so ago. Colts game, I think. Definitely by the end of the Chargers game.

Of the big 3 in Brady, Bill and Kraft, only Brady walked away from that dynasty with his dignity and head held high.
Brady got lucky. He skated by the tampering incident, and didn’t get called on his petulance about his private sports medics quack guru was treated, and his petulance about how he didn’t get to control roster construction. And then he got his superstar TE friend to unretire and other friends to come play with him to stack the TB roster for a grand finale. BB and Kraft should’ve known not to **** around with the golden boy. They found out.

Posters on this board have been talking about how unorganized the team has looked for Months. The game versus Arizona was an eye opener for me because they looked awful coming off the bye week. Mayo was in over his head, however he was also coaching one of the least talented rosters in the league.

That ain't gonna happen. The Krafts own all that land. There's no way Jonathan is going to pick up stakes and move the stadium closer to Boston. Hell, when they were planning on moving the team last time it was to CT not near Boston.
Not just that. There’s no site close to Boston that would not be a political firestorm sufficient to block construction indefinitely. They tested those waters and got scalded. Won’t there again.

I look forward to the day the Supreme Court outlaws all racial discrimination, including race-based DEI and the Rooney Rule. Few policies have done more to erode blacks' collective reputation and to exacerbate the erosion of race relations that these programs. Unlike those who advocate them, I actually do believe that blacks can compete on the basis of merit, so who's the racist?
All the hiring authorities who choose to hire people looking just like them, instead of hiring purely on merit.

Don’t kid yourself, that’s still most of them.

You can do whatever you want when you win seven championships.

That's not lucky that's talent.

My gut tells me Bob doesn't think Jonathan can handle running the team. I question it as well...hes too short-tempered and emotional.
Seldom do parents see their kids as equal or superior to them.

It might be a special case related to Dunning Kruger Syndrome.

His biggest bit of luck was being drafted 199th by the NFL after failing to secure a solid starter role in college, landing with a team that had just signed a mega deal with their incumbent superstar QB, and not riding the bench as backup for four years.

Were you around in 2001? Remember the controversy when Bledsoe was healthy and Belichick kept playing Brady?

Brady had two incredible bits of luck there, first was Mo Lewis creating an opportunity for him and second was Bill Belichick having the balls to ignore the tradition that starters don’t lose their job because of injury and keep playing Brady when Bledsoe was ready to come back.

Not lucky? Ha! Luck of the Irish.

You might argue it was Bill who got lucky. The best of all time fell into his lap and he didn't even know it.

Yes it was the perfect storm when they both got lucky.

No I think Bill knew it. He certainly knew enough to keep playing him.

Robert is the one who didn’t realize how lucky he was. And eventually screwed it up.

Yes but the problem is Year 1 was so bad it did not imbue confidence in Year 2.

We all know the roster is brutal - except for QB, CB and handful of position players and STers. Need a coach with a plan and discipline to make it work.
