I could see them taking Carter or Graham at #4 over McMillan or Banks/Campbell if they hire Vrabel

****ing Mayo cost this team a nice haul with his ******** yesterday
He also cost himself: NFL folks now fully realize Jerod Mayo's loyalty is to himself, and that he is not a class act. That he was capable of such a blatant act of sabotage against the organization that gave him so much broadcast his true character to the entire league. He won't even get a sniff from another NFL team. He's an awful, selfish person.

Just like Mayo, it's not about the record, it's about the circumstances.

If they add a bunch of players by spending tons of cap dollars and they draft solid players but Vrabel somehow can't win even a third of the games with a talented roster then yes that would be grounds to terminate.

Conversely if they again don't really add any talent for some unknown reason (even though they really NEED to spend to start approaching the "floor" of minimum spend they need to hit over a 4 year window) and they don't draft well, but Vrabel manages to turn around a lot of the problems this team faces in regards to culture, tackling, effort, attention to detail etc, then no he should still be kept.

If he faces the second option above but does not resolve these problems and just looks like Mayo part 2 then yes he should be fired.

It is about the record. Vrabel would not survive my scenario.

Kraft couldn't live down the optics of firing the black coach but not the white guy.

If Vrabel is the guy i'm betting he'll want to talk to Covington as the defensive system will kinda sorta be the same. While I don't think he had a very good year as a DC, he did get some recognition for developing Barmore and Wise. Might be work keeping as a positional coach.

Springer should get a look.

Maybe AVP is kept as a QB coach. Really depends on the system they want to put in.

We also don't know how much influence Mayo had on the D and O.
I hear ya but I think there is just no way Covington stays on. He is part of the culture problem that stems off of Mayo IMO. Which is too bad because Covington definitely had promise to be a good DC if he had a few more years to grow.

I think Springer definitely can and should be kept.

AVP is worth consideration as he seemed to maintain some level of leadership and accountability despite Mayo. I don't think it would undermine the next coach if he was kept on in some role. That said, I suspect Cleveland will want to bring him back as a full OC.

lol, oh okay. I thought this was a nuanced situation having many important moving parts but I forgot it was actually just about skin color. D'oh! How could I have gotten this wrong?

The team should have fired him during the week if they wanted their team to lose. Obviously, they were planning to do so after the game. Why take the risk? That's my biggest question.

Agree with Springer and hoping to keep AvP as QB coach.

I mean. You just said in the post above you support both our coordinators.

There's nothing nuanced about it. You are what your record says you are.

Vrabel would be fired and NOT because they let the black guy go.

If we're realistic, the next Patriots regime is at square -1, maybe square 0 when considering Drake Maye. The whole organization needs to be rebuilt. Every single department. And Kraft needs to be willing to use his money to build a modern organization: scouting, analytics, exercise science, medical, conditioning, everything. The stadium is old. The practice and training facilities are not up to par. I have a question for Bob:

Going into Monday I have to credit Kraft even more. I did not realize the **** storm he was going to face in the media for firing Mayo. I assumed most outlets would simply say "yeah he was a bad coach" but a lot of places are saying "he didn't get a fair chance", "the roster wasn't good enough, that's Kraft's fault"... blah blah blah.

I have heard multiple times, throughout the year and again today, that "Mayo didn't get to build his own staff" which is just a blatant lie. He absolutely COULD HAVE, he was just INCAPABLE OF DOING SO. He did not know anyone, he had no connections. He hired Covington because that was his only connection. His only OC connection was Nick Caley, and Caley told him to get bent. So he had to turn to Wolf for help. That is definitely not a case of being disallowed from building his own staff. Seems like ******** someone in his camp is feeding outlets.

Regardless, again, credit to Kraft as he must have known he would need to take this heat which probably hurts his HOF bid. Although another **** season next year also would have hurt it, which he must have realized too. The fastest way to fix that is to win.

It mainly makes me think about AVP. Maybe he was never that bad of a playcaller at all and Mayo was pushing him to be conservative, but then acting like he had nothing to do with it. I just find it hard to believe that AVP suddenly discovered how to be creative and use all these tools in his bag right at the last second with his 3rd string QB. No way. He actually had a clue but was handcuffed, and then Mayo took off the cuffs for the last game.
Perhaps you are right, it does seem strange that with a 3rd string QB in place the gloves come off play calling wise. If they did think they were protecting Maye because the OL was so crap then how come he had concussion.?
They should of set him free.

For all the social media defenders (including Gronk) - it was about much more than just a bad record with a sorta bad roster...
Mayo showed that he wasn't ready for:
- the spotlight of media
- the hard-ass needed to govern rich/egotistical players with the charisma to get them to buy-in to team
- the knowledge of in-game calls, adjustments, innovation
- the discipline or experience to coach the coaches

There was clearly not a singular trusted vision or voice in that locker room. Not amongst the players, or coaches.

I think the best thing he can do to pain himself in a PC woke light is to hire Agnew as GM. He loses Vrabel then but I want a wide net search anyhow,

He's already building a new training and rehab center right next to the practice fields. They just dumped a whole bunch of money on the stadium last year (even if you don't like the improvements). No new stadium is in the works.

I still don't think he knows that he can yell at the refs when he thinks his team is being jobbed. As bad as they were this year, there were many bad or biased calls that went against the Pats. Never yelled at a ref for any of it.

Why do people keep saying the stadium is old? How many other teams have a stadium younger than 25 years?

Is he gonna invest in roster and coaching at some point or are we supposed to be happy he's building useless white houses and giant TVs?

Kraft buried his chances at the HoF with his idiotic selection of Mayo. Almost. NFL people knew that would be a disaster, and it exposed Kraft as someone who got lucky, not someone who understands how to build winning teams. If he does everything right from this point on and restores the team to playoff competitiveness, there's a chance for redemption, an arc that might get him back into the HoF, especially if they get a SB before he's done. That would be a great story, a HoF worthy story (and a Hollywood story, too -- if done with honesty).
