I don't believe in analytics.The Patriots have no true analytics. There was no department like most teams have today. Surface level analytics and one example is not a damnation of the practice. And you can have the best analytics in the world, but they are not going to give you a medical analysis of a player's knee to show it was completely shot.
I think a human coach will be able to process so many more variables than any analytical or algorithmic can when it comes to football.'
It's the same with announcers talking about probabilities when it comes to 4th down. They don't take into account so much more.
The final minute of the 2014 Super Bowl doesn't happen if a coach relies on analytics.
There's a lot to be said about guys who are moving the sticks and aren't hitting home runs. Their advanced numbers might suck, but the constant beat of consistent first downs slowly tightens the noose around defenses.
In general, I'm against the nerdification of all these sports.
Thank god soccer has gone away from it faster than other sports. Soccer has gone the complete opposite way.
