Robert Kraft's Press Conference

Highsmith was just brought on this past year, he was not part of the previous regime. The fact that he's going to be involved this time around is big news.
Don't care, he is more of the same. This last draft was a doozy wasn't it? He can show himself right out the door. I lump him in with everyone else.

Wasn’t specific about what Wolf will be doing. Ben Johnson nor Mike Vrabel will come here if they can’t bring their own guys in those key positions.

Wolf is staying but it sounds like some things are being taken off his plate (and going to Highsmith)? I'm ok with that.
Based on RKs comments do you anticipate wolfy kind of facing a job reassignment?

Absolutely 100% stupid to keep Wolf around. If I were Vrabel, or any other candidate worth a damn, I would refuse the job unless there were a new GM hired AND I had a very significant voice in who that person would be.
Bingo, no high end coach will abide by that. This was a major misstep from Kraft, saying what he did. It would catch my attention as a coaching candidate.

Yeah this is the issue. Wolf has no business being in any coach meetings. Nobody from that front office does. The entire font office, scouts etc needs to be cleaned out.

If Ben Johnson/Vrabel comes to Gillette for an interview these people have zero business being there. Wolf, Highsmith, Glazer to start. \

If you keep listening to what he is saying, it's a pipe dream for those who think that Wolf isn't staying on.
Don't you need some "football guys" part of the decision-making though? If Vrabel says he wants to bring McDaniels in, is Kraft really going to ask him to breakdown how a move back to the EP offense after experimenting with West Coast is going to change things and to what extent our existing personnel is better or worse suited for that system? I think you have to some deeper football knowledge in the decision-making process that Krafts aren't going to be able to bring.

But this happens all the time when regimes change.

When the Bills team arrived in 2017, they had 2 months to prepare for the draft.

These are their first 4 picks:

1Tre'Davious White27CB8201720241254893000LSU
2Zay Jones37WR820172024003241151229008240295311218East Carolina
2Dion Dawkins63G8201720240385612800282Temple
5Matt Milano163LB8201720241145294000Boston Col.
Yeah but Brandon Beane was working in Carolina as an assistant GM so he could just bring the draft work he did in Carolina with him, if we do that and hire someone elses assistant GM then it's fine because he's already been working on the draft for this year.

You can't do that if you're hiring someone who's not been working this season or you're planning on giving Vrabel a bigger say in personnel.

Kraft expects Mayo will be more successful with more experience. So why was he hired again...?
Platitudes. He likes him, hired him too soon.

Wolf, Highsmith and Groh - BB was mean, he didn't take our input boo hoo

Wolf, Highsmith and Groh - Mayo and his staff couldn't coach up our outstanding draft picks.

Wolf, Highsmight and Groh - We will do better with a different head coach.

Anyone see the issue here? Anyone?
The issue is Highsmith wasn't hired until right before training camp. He wasn't involved in the coach search or draft last year. He will be this time.

Sure, you get some trusted people from around the league that aren't going to be employed to do that. You never, ever have someone with a self preservation interest to have any say in it.

The Mac Jones fiasco and FA 2024 ####ed this Team from the Start. This team was handicapped... The Krafts are going to spend every dime in FA this year.

I want everyone gone, as should Kraft if he were really serious about changing everything. Bring in all new blood for the new coach. This smells like trying to match make again and we saw how bad that worked last time.

Kraft said the new coach will have "big input" on player personnel.

Someone like Vrabel will stuff Wolf in a garbage can if there's a disagreement.

Highsmith was hired in 2024?

Alonzo Highsmith is 'new blood' for the coaching search. He was hired right before training camp. This was after the draft, after the extensions, after free agency.
