Do you want a big guy to protect Drake and anchor the line, or do you want a shiny new toy for him to throw to?

Drake's deep drop leaves his OTs in a vulnerable spot, especially beyond 10 yards from LoS. We've seen guys like Russell Wilson leave his linemen out to dry by running backwards in an effort to extend the play. Interesting points made by Brian Hoyer here, starting at 4:40 mark. He talks about how Tom Brady didn't drop deep out of the gun in JMcD's system, because the further back he got, the more the edge rushers had a better angle to get him. Further, this means the IOL guys have to be a brick wall, and we know they aren't, so the QB (Maye) doesn't have the confidence or the ability to step up. The key comment Hoyer makes to me is sharing the story of HoF OT Joe Thomas telling him to keep his back foot inside of 10 yards. Interesting stuff.

Put me down as the OL needs to be priority #1 when it comes to the roster this off season.

"Other" should read BPA. We should always draft the BPA to increase our chances of drafting All Pros.

A draft is successful if 3 or 4 starters are identified and a huge success if an All Pro is selected.

Drafting for a position is a short term view, drafting BPA is a long term view. Successful organisations always have a long term view.

If this draft had a LT worth a top 5 pick, I would be all over it....but this draft doesn't even have a single player that would have likely been top 5 in last years draft.....the top two LTs have serious questions about playing LT in the NFL; and the "#1WR" on a lot of boards has separation questions and probably would have been at best the 4th WR taken last year...

That is a long way to say, BPA.

A few years ago, I found there's a sharp dropoff in 1st/2nd team All Pros after the top 10 (sharp dropoff in chances after 1st or 2nd QB picked iirc with obv exceptions). Last year I wanted Alt as my top pick (my irrational pick was MHJr), but the QB position was way too important, so I understand why they went that way. I still would've picked Alt even in retrospect (I'm sure a very unpopular opinion).

Watching that Chargers game, it seemed like Herbert could've cooked a turkey back there sometimes. On the other side from Alt is Rashawn Slater (#13 in 2021 when Pats picked Mac at #15) was the 3rd highest rated T in PFF this year (1st was a 7th rounder in a top shelf line full of 1st or 2nd rounders).

1. Lose to Buffalo.
2. Hope and Ward and/or Sanders light up the all star bowl games and the combine.
3. Trade down and get a haul to set you up for the future. If they can trade down twice and still get Banks or Campbell in the 8-10 range I'd be really happy with that.

  • 2023: Carolina Panthers trade up to #1 for Bryce Young: The Panthers traded with the Chicago Bears, giving up the 9th overall pick, the 61st overall pick, a 2024 first-round pick, a 2025 second-round pick, and wide receiver D.J. Moore.

  • 2021: San Francisco 49ers trade up to #3 for Trey Lance:
    • Three first-round picks: 2021, 2022, and 2023
    • One third-round pick: 2022
  • 2016: Los Angeles Rams trade up to #1 for Jared Goff: The Rams made a big move with the Tennessee Titans, surrendering two first-rounders, two second-rounders, and a third-rounder in 2016, plus a first and third-rounder in 2017.

  • 2016: Philadelphia Eagles trade up to #2 for Carson Wentz: The Eagles climbed from #8 to #2 in a deal with the Cleveland Browns, giving up their first-round pick, a third and fourth-rounder in 2016, a first-rounder in 2017, and a second-rounder in 2018.

  • 2012: Washington Redskins trade up to #2 for Robert Griffin III: Washington made a bold move with the then-St. Louis Rams, trading their first-round picks in 2012, 2013, and 2014, plus a 2012 second-rounder to secure RGIII.
If Wolf, or hopefully his replacement, doesn't get something in this realm they should get fired.

Nice work on this.

We can’t really talk about needs until probably a week into free agency, but also with a high pick like that it’s more about getting the best player that “isn’t not a need” than targeting one position.

So just QB?

To me, the only thing that changes the need is if they pick up Tee Higgins. Maybe then you end the debate. If they pick up the best OT available in FA, there's still a need at OT.

There's a lot of T-Rex arm Tackles in the upcoming Draft. So Guys from smaller schools lesser competition are moving up. The Senior Bowl should tell us more.

WR is the better Value early on in this Draft.

In general, tackling sucks at the high levels in football now. Guys come in like missiles for big hits, but very few wrap. If only someone was at a major college who could coach up proper fundamentals.

He meant "Tackles" as in the offensive line position, not the act of tackling a ball carrier.

I would love to see the Giants give us their 1st, 2nd in 2025 and 1st and 3rd in 2026 for our 1st and 4th this year. If Travis is there we take him and if he is not try and trade down again. I really don't see anyone giving anymore than that and they are not moving up that far.

The ONLY way they should go WR in the first round is if they've signed either Robinson, Staley or Jackson. Otherwise, they HAVE to add a OT. To be honest,. I wouldn't draft a WR then because of the need at DT and DE. Even CB is a bigger need than WR, imo.

I agree we need o-line, but not getting weapons for Maye is like having a Ferrari in the garage and not putting gas in it.

Im definitely hoping for a trade down and pick up as many high assets in next years draft as possible.

I’d love an OT and that’s normally what I’d pick all things equal, but it seems the top OL have too many questions while most of the true blue chip talent is on D.

If Pat's end up with #1. I trade it. Best case to a team in top 5. If two QBs go in top 5. I take one of Hunter, Graham or Carter. Not ideal cause this team needs an OT badly, but reaching for one would be a mistake. D blows so anyone of these guys would be an upgrade. Get Higgins and over pay the best OTs in FA.

Why was this an 'or" question? Why not 'and' since the trade down option is currently viable? Just curious, wouldn't have changed my vote.
In spite of the fact that it was probaby 2 guys, I voted RLKAG. If this were a ranked choice scenario it would have been good to have that 'and' option though...
