Pats should hire Steve Spagnuolo as next Head Coach

If they keep Mayo, they need to punt and get some upcoming coordinators on both offense and defense from college supplemented with veteran coaches as consultants .

No NFL upshot candidate is going to join Mayo . So it's more like a startup, find someone enterprising enough who is willing to take the risk to join us.

From NFL ranks we might get real bad retreads under Mayo because Mayo knows no one. Kraft bungled up the hire big time and now trying to rectify it somehow to get back some credit.

Looks like this might be the demise of patriots . Fans revolting, maye regressing and us getting a new OC again in 3rd year and Maye requesting a trade in 3rd year.

It blows my mind that people are still out here advocating to hire a defensive guy as the coach.

That's what we've been doing for the last 25 years.

And it hasn't worked in the last six and it hasn't just not worked It hasn't worked on a historically bad level.

I don't think I could handle them hiring a defensive guy as the head coach. It might be the final straw.

I feel it but I could never stop watching. Not unless we turn into something along the lines of the Little Giants.

I accept fully, today on the first day of the year that this upcoming year will be no different than this what.

5 wins tops.

I will live with it if they make the right choices next off-season. I mean hiring the most sought-after offensive mind and GM of that cycle and investing heavily in trades and the draft. It's a lot.

I think mcvay will retire or get fired this year and take a year off and he will be my number 1 target.
No respect for the past and no hope for the future you seem fun

Pete Carroll:
HOF HC for Seahawks for 14 yeras
head coaching experience with New Englad
Lived in Massachusetts
Lots of connections with players and coaches throughout league
Makes great in game adjustments except near the goal line
Comes with instant credibility and respect
Wants to be head coach again
Could do worse than Pete

As ludicrous as him coming back here sounds that would make a story line for the ages.

Fans have had it rough. This year especially. Hiring a HC who gives no evidence of improvement means without wholesale changes people will stop caring.

I’m on the verge. I feel it.

Mayo trots out Maye and pulls all the stops to beat the Bills and their backups is the rotten cherry on the sh-t sundae of this season.
Wait until your hear his victorious press conference, you'll want to stick a fork in your eye to distract yourself from his utter lack of awareness (of himself, his situation, how his players view him, how the fans view him, ...). Jerod Mayo is one of the most selfish, childish men of prominence I have ever seen, and that's saying a lot.

I would take a successful, experienced high school coach over Jerod Mayo. If that's my only choice, HS coach gets the job. At least he'd watch the play unfolding before him and react. At least he wouldn't throw everyone around him under the bus.

I generally slam my **** in a door jamb a handful of times when that Mental - Deficient starts yapping nonsense.

Thats some weird wild stuff. So the negative is he’s ancient. He would need to run a team differently this time around because of age. He would need to delegate a lot and would he even have the capacity to verify their work. IDK

I know he is too old, but Don Shula would be a better way to tweak BB.

Johnny Foxboro could coach better than Jerod.

I would hire him just to get him out of KC.

Signed an extension after the SB last year so he couldn’t have wanted to be a HC that badly. But I’m sure the Pats could get him if they wanted to trade for him with multiple first round picks including 2025’s to the Chiefs. Not sure if that’s a wise way to use our picks…
For those who don't know, the NFL's staffing rules now say that teams cannot prevent coaches from taking upward promotions with other teams, and cannot demand compensation if they leave (they can get draft picks if a minority coach takes an HC position elsewhere). Moreover, they cannot even prohibit them from interviewing, although they can regulate the timing, especially if they make the playoffs.

now? ... sb1's post is very confusing, as that info is like entry level stuff... upward mobility of coaches has been a cornerstone of the nfl for 30 years now

True, but there used to be ways for teams to make it harder (e.g., Caserio apparently had a contract prohibiting him from taking jobs with other teams).
