Which top free agents did not want to go to the Pats? I keep hearing this.
Oh and if you pursue the conversation asking who they were, who did we try to sign that wouldn’t come here, you will run into genius logic like “hie would we know who they tried to get” or “they didn’t even bother because they knew no one wanted to come here”
Shockingly, but for 1, Ridley, every player we knew they pursued wanted to come here. The problem is they pursued slugs.

I didn't say they had to be All Pro. If you watched Becton for the Jets, he was as bad as Lowe is now. The guy was heading toward being forced out of the league after last year.

The Eagles got lucky that they moved him to right guard and he has played decent enough. But then again, there is no guarantee that he would have performed well at right or left guard here. Look at Onwenu. He is playing like garbage this year and he was solid prior to this year.

You are looking at Becton with the benefit of hindsight. If the Patriots signed the guy back in March or April, everyone would have blasted them for the signing at the time. He was awful. The Eagles turned around his career. He was major bust. Now he is serviceable. The Jets desperately needed o-line help this past offseason and they let the guy walk.
The Eagles OL coaching is far better than what the Pats OL coaching has shown us so far. I’m all in on expending money and draft capital to improve the talent the Pats have but if they don’t have good coaching it will continue to suck for them. For me the only positive I see is with Lowe, everyone else has either regressed like Onwenu and Sow, or not progressed like Wallace and Robinson. I can give them a pass on the two rookies but not the veterans. Their approach to both player acquisition and coaching for the OL needs to be improved significantly

You are joking right?
You are saying there were no free agents to sign because the guy who was signed and is playing well would have had fans complain so it was smarter to build an OL off of the waiver wire? Because there was no guarantee. And guess we had guarantees with guys who got cut?

If we had signed Becton our OL would be better. What you personally thought he might be is irrelevant. He is far better than doing nothing.

The same goes for dozens of free agent OL.
The Patriots went out and built the absolute worst OL in the NFL. They literally could not have done a worse job.
You are arguing they did fine and why the world would we want better players if there is no guarantee.

You are literally supporting the worst job of building an OL in the league and maybe in the history of the league. What would you oppose? If we didn’t have enough players on the roster and had to forfeit? That’s about the only thing worse that what we did.

The Pats signed free agents. Free agents at the same level or better than Becton was at the time. They flamed out. Becton probably would have flamed out here too.

You keep on arguing that there were free agents to sign yet have not given one single name. I provided Becton's name. Name free agents the Pats should have signed. You can't. There were none.

Yeah, the is the other thing missing. The Eagles always have a good o-line just like the Pats always had a good o-line when Scar was here. Scar made marginal talent produce. You can go back over the years and see some of the garbage the Pats had at RT when Scar was coaching they they outplayed everyone on the current o-line.

Coaching is a difference maker. We have seen Scar coach up some really mediocre o-lines. The Eagles do that too.

Watch the Pats dodge another bullet when some team signs Higgins to $30M+ per year and is a major bust without Burrow's pinpoint placement of passes.

Aiyuk did not want to leave SanFran, so he stayed and paid higher taxes. Aiyuk rejected the Browns and Steelers. It had nothing to do with NE.

Yes, I understand that Ridley did not want to come here. But that one player has blossomed into "players" don't want to come to NE. I thought maybe I missed someone.

IDK, in 2020, Burrow missed a third of the season and Higgins still got 908 yards and 6 TDs with Brandon Allen starting 5 games.

If we keep dodging bullets and never "overpay" we will never sign any FAs. Signing FAs is risky just like the draft and we will make mistakes, it comes with the territory. If we keep rolling over cap space we will never fill out the team.

A lot more than $80M left, because that $40M contract could have a first year cap hit under $10M.

I feel like people need to start mentally preparing now for the Pats to have a bunch of cap space again a year from now. They could spend something absurd like $400M in cash (by far the most in NFL history) and still have $30M in cap space if the majority of that is spent on backloaded 4 and 5 year contracts.
Yeah we'll definitely have trouble spending over 100 mil.

Ultimately it comes down to what we land. If we can get a couple of starting olinemen, a WR1 and WR2, a pass rusher, and a LB and don't miss on them I don't think we'll be pissed by what's left.

You can look at a list of free agents. There were dozens that are better than what we put out there.

Becton has started 13 games and played 777 snaps for the 12-2 Eagles. He is also a former first round pick who only struggled in NY due to weight and health issues.
Signing him instead of claiming a guy off waivers to start makes this team better.

I previously listed over 70 free agents that are better than the players we have.

I asked you to look at the list of FA OL signed and tell me which ones were worse than the waiver wire pickups we have in our OL, some starting.
You haven’t named any. You can’t.

It’s fine if you want to die on the hill of the patriots did a great job building their worst in the league OL and that it’s a great strategy to find your starting OL in waiver wire guys. You just look like a moron saying so.

Can we broaden the discussion and include the 11 offensive coordinator candidates who took a hard pass on the NE opening?

Wonder if Wolf revealed his WR & OL draft targets during these interviews?

There were reports last week that these OC candidates were surprised the interviews weren’t more about football issues. Not sure what they were about

Who is is going to be able to offer him more than us?..
Anyone that has as much cap room as it takes to sign him.
If his cap hit is 10 mill we don’t have an advantage over a team with 20 mill cap space.

We have the most to offer him.

The current argument is we dodged a bullet by not paying less than 3 mill for a former first round pick who ate his way out of NY and has now started 13 games and played 777 snaps for a 12-2 team because we couldn’t guarantee he would be great, so the waiver wire route was smarter.

So you think we are going to make him an offer with a cap hit higher than $111,000,000 the raiders have?
I only care about what the NEP have and they will offer him the max.. they offered the house to Aiyuk on a year deal. They will offer the same to Higgins.

what stinks is we will have to overpay for players.

Nicknames Thunder would enjoy if any accepted the job offer (at below market rates)
