Lombardi did an interview talking about how a NFL team needs a supreme commander. Lombardi is going to be BB's GM at UNC. Lombardi speaks for Bill. If Bill is asking for complete control at an NFL franchise after the last 5 years at the Pats, I don't think there will be a lot of interest from NFL owners. UNC is completely different. I heard Matty P is going to UNC too.

It’s not like I don’t understand the why’s with teams being hesitant to hire him. It’s still a league where guys routinely get 2nd and 3rd chances. BB himself got a shot with the Patriots coming off of his CLE gig - they have a 1st round pick for him!!! It was a bad roster at the end and he really struggled to build a rapport with his staff as “his guys” were retiring, but it’s still crazy to me no one looked at the totality of his resume and said “yeah I think the guys a decent chance to take”.

It's age man. If Bill was a decade younger, he'd be in the league.

When you're in your prime and have a few bad years, it's just some tough breaks and you need to reset. When you are in your 70's, people just assume you are losing it and on the way out.

Look at how many people here were looking at a 42 year old Tom Brady in 2019 and looking at him having a similar season to 2013 with an objectively bad offensive cast and saying "looks like Brady's losing it, he's a liability now". And then remember how only a few teams actually looked at him when he hit free agency and everyone looked stupid as **** for doubting him?

This is just how things go. It's probably worse for Bill because people don't really get a "win now" coach. They want the guy that is going to lead the franchise for the next 15-20 years if things work out.

I really don't understand fully why Kraft badmouthed Bill so bad to other NFL owners. Jealousy? Threat to his own posterity? Did Bill screw him over? Seems something is weird here.

Not sure if it was posted but UNC has allocated $20m to the NIL kitty from $4m last year.

Come on of course he has an agenda. I can understand he feels slighted by Kraft and yes he isn’t wrong about the state of the team but enough already.
He’s not a Patriot anymore and butthurt is exactly how he’s coming across. It’s beneath him. So on to UNC as he might put it.

We will never know if he would have picked Maye or not, it’s pure speculation at this point, no one knows for sure. He does not have an agenda, he is very often asked about his opinion on the Pats as he was part of the organization for years. He is giving his honest opinion, and why shouldn’t he ? It’s no different than any other talking head , in fact he is trying to be a bit tactful in his answers. So many people have commented on the state of the Patriots, but your reaction to Bill is something else !!! I for one like to read his comments because he is more often right than wrong

I could be wrong, but IMO Kraft wanted to be known as the driving force behind the dynasties. He wasn’t getting enough credit hence he made that horrible documentary. He is an extremely jealous, vindictive man who cares more about himself that the team. He wasn’t like that in the beginning but it started to change during the second dynasty. He wanted to be front and centre. This is his way of doing that, throw Bill to the wolves and he has people like Curran eating it up and running with false narratives! I really wish he would sell the team , I don’t think very highly of Jonathan either. He is daddy’s boy !!!

Precisely this. And if anything he's actually held back and could have said a lot more. Has he put them up on a Bellistrator?

I don't even think he's spoke about us on a weekly basis just a couple of times when he probably felt he couldn't just ignore us either (or was told by his producers or something).

Ok but there’s plenty of evidence that suggests he wouldn’t have picked Maye and virtually none that suggests the opposite. I’m glad we have him and I think he will get even better next season.

My reaction is that this stuff is beneath him and it’s way past getting old. Bill left a 4-13 team and did a lot to contribute to this mess so I don’t wanna hear this from him up on his soapbox. I get that these comments are really directed at R&J but enough already.

It’s also interesting to hear people defend Bill’s comments knowing it’s unlikely they would have or had the same opinion when the Nick Wrights Rex Ryan’s and Max Kellerman’s of the media say the same things about the Pats. Or when Rodney told Brady to “take off his skirt”… was that his “honest opinion” too?

This is 100% on brand for Kraft. He has never had the ability to STFU when it comes to trying to promote himself.

It’s why we saw the campaign against him in the media from Steve Karp, David Mufar, Charlie Sarkis, and Joe O’Donnell. They all had it in for him after he ran around town telling everyone how dumb he considered all of them, especially Mugar regarding their Channel 7 partnership and Karp whom he outbid for Foxboro Stadium. Remember how it came out that Kraft badmouthed Menino when he wouldn’t go along with the “Megaplex” at the Seaport? More recently he made this big effort to act like he didn’t fire Belichick but there he was two months later telling everyone he fired BB but “did it in a classy way.” The history of his behavior towards people like this is very long.

As I’ve posted a number of times here recently, I think Kraft wants the team to win but his top priority is the HOF. He knows BB will be a shoo-in and wants people to think he somehow was more responsible than he is credited to be. I think he also thinks “Spygate” is the main reason he isn’t in already and thus blames BB for his predicament.

Mac Jones was supposed to be the most pro ready and polished QB in his draft class with the highest floor. He showed what he can do in the right system and that’s exactly what Bill wants. He elevates his QB around his team. So he would take the more polished guy to start with so he can plug him right in to his system. That’s what he’s always done even with Brady at the beginning. That was supposed to happen with Jones. He has never taken a raw unpolished high upside QB prospect/project like Maye and elevated him first so he can take the team with him. Why would he start now?

Why do you think he talked down Josh Allen at the start? Or liked Zappe regardless of his limitations? Or had no real interest in developing Stidham? Or didn’t draft Lamar? Thats Bill’s MO. He likes the polished guy. He likes guys like McCarthy who can play in his system the way he likes. Can’t argue with that… the approach got Brady to become the GOAT and 6 rings.

That’s why I never believed Bill was taking Mills later in that draft. Mills is a project. Bill doesn’t take on QB projects to develop them into a starter, not that I’ve seen anyway. And especially factoring in now at his age. Will be fascinating to watch him build UNC.
