This is not true. BB is an old guy that gave us 9 trips to the SB and 6 SB championships. What people just really want is for Pats ownership to not sh!t on BB on his way out which is what RK did. RK even went so far to make a documentary on the Pats to dump on BB. What people just really want is for the BB haters to allow the guy to be himself. BB is eccentric, a bit odd for sure, but a genius in his own right, so give him respect on his way out. BB has not changed. It was cute when he signed a napkin to quit from the Jets, but he was odd then and odd now. BB has not changed. BB was just as eccentric when he was helping the franchise win SBs, but noone was upset about him then. What people just really want is for BB to change and stop being odd even though they were fine with his oddity for 20 years. BB has not changed, the people have changed.
Bill Belichick wasn't old when he took us to most of those Super Bowls. His last SB was 6 years ago when he was 66. He'll be 73 next season. All his Super Bowl appearances came between age 49 and 66. You know.... within pre retirement age for most of the country.
It's really not surprising that most of the NFL isn't looking at a coach who is approaching his mid 70's when no coach in that age range has ever won a title, typically you see coaches that old decline, Bill did have a downward trajectory towards the end, and teams in general want a guy to be the person who can build their franchise and lead it for a decade plus, not to squeek out however many years he might have left. Especially one who most people believe wants full control when literally no team in the league does that anymore. It's a difficult ask.
I agree with you that the documentary was in poor taste and makes Kraft look like a ****head who is desperate for recognition. But as far as the idea that Kraft bad mouthed Belichick to dissuade other owners, I just find that suspect as ****. Blank denied it and Schefter who is the most plugged in guy in the industry denied it. It's just another dumb rumor people who can't accept Bill's issues later in his career want to believe for why he's not getting looks. Same as how after years of Bill having total control of the franchise supposedly Kraft started meddling and supposedly Kraft is only responsible for all the bad decisions and Bill is only responsible for the good ones.
Here's the reality, Bill did things his way, people put up with it because he was winning. Nobody would ask him to change if he was winning like he used. But he hasn't for a long time. 6 years is forever in football. That's like half of most players careers, even a guy like Brady that was like 3rd of his tenure here. Bill's allowed to be himself, and the rest of the NFL is allowed to think that him being himself isn't going to help a franchise win in 2025 and beyond.
Like I said I wish Bill well and hope he succeeds at UNC, but he was largely the main culprit responsible for why he isn't here right now and why the league isn't as interested in him. There's really no evidence Kraft is waging some sort of blackballing campaign on him and if owners thought they could win with him, they wouldn't care what any other owner told them, just like Kraft ignored Art Modell when he was set on Belichick,
There's really no shame in a guy having a long career and the game passing him by. Every coach that didn't retire early had that happen. Even the legendary ones.
