Patriots Player Departure Rap: KJ Osborn waived

Now that the season is officially lost, it is time to see what the guys who will be here next year can do. Sink or swim. Osborn was done here. See if Polk and/or Baker can salvage their rookie seasons.
Maybe Baker can get some reps in the last four games, as long as someone in the huddle reminds him which end zone to run towards.

I don't think Tee would be a legit #1 on his own team. I think he's a great #2 next to an all-time talent like Chase. We need a Chase, not a Higgins. All of our WR's (besides Pop) run 4.5+ That's the issue. We don't need 6'4" 4.55 guy, we need ~6'1" 4.4 guy with a brain and hands.
Look up Higgins numbers when chase is out injured. He absolutely carries the team. He’s a #1

I think Jamaar Chase is the Best WR in Football.

Higgins don't have to be a #1 we need him to be a WR like Edelman who makes the others better.

Objectively I'm with you CT but then I think if ol' Boney T coulda worked the route tree and caught balls the way his skinny ass can run we'd both gladly make that boy as many sammitiches as we could force down his throat to thicken his ass up to a surviveable weight. After all Randy Moss wasn't exactly a wide body

He wasn't, but he was 6'4", 210. As opposed to Thornton and Addison, who both weighed less than 5'9" Wes Welker.

Hmm see thread about Wolfe as GM worse than BB
He should be held accountable and fired after end of season
Obvious move that any competent organization would make

Much more so than Mayo

This coming from a guy who didn’t want Drake Maye, and said Mac Jones was going to make the Patriots look really bad for getting rid of him. Zero credibility.

(sigh)
When he was signed I honestly thought it was a move with some real upside potential, say what you will he hauled in @ 2/3 of the passes thrown his way in Minnesota. Seemed like it could've been one of those signings that could prove out to be beneficial to the team and the player. Reason 6,847 why I wouldn't be a very good GM.
You couldn’t be any worse than the patriots chief WR scout

Jordan Addison? The guy who just got 8 catches for 162 yards and 3 touchdowns in a game?
I prefer not to have twigs at WR. See Tyquan Thornton as to why.
Comparing Addison to Thornton is one of the funniest things I have heard in a while. Addison was a college star while Thornton was mediocre

Addison came to the nfl and put up 10 touchdowns as a rookie. He already has 800 yards in just 11 games. He just put up a 160 yard 3 touchdown game. Tyquan meanwhile couldn’t even crack the starting lineup on the worst Wr corps in the nfl.

To compare the two is insanity. One is a star, the other is a complete scrub

Jordan Addison is better than all of our wide receivers combined. Tyquan Thornton couldn’t shine Addison’s shoes or carry his jockstrap.

In 2023 with the worst offense in the NFL, the patriots PASSED on Jordan Addison and Zay Flowers at 17.

I'm guessing you would've taken them over Gonzalez?

At least Gonzalez isn't a bust and has been solid, something we've rarely seen from a 1st round pick.

Ehhh, hard to say. Gonzalez is a very good player. However, not sure he was the most impactful player for our team to draft in that spot. Even with Gonzalez, our defense ranks 28th and our record is piss poor. Would Addison or Flowers be better for a young QBs development? I think so.

My acerbic wit was in response to “CtPatsfan” comparing Addison to Tyquan Thornton. The two might as well be in a different stratosphere.

Gonzalez is the 9th most targeted CB in the NFL, yet offenses are still moving the ball with ease on the defense. That is what concerns me. He's not a very impactful player batting down or intercepting passes and causing a fumble after a completion. What I've observed when there's an incompletion: it's either passes are underthrown, overthrown or the WR just drops the pass. Not much playmaking from him.

Great argument. Very logical. He’s a fan favorite on this forum, so you may not get a lot of support.

Higgins or bust. He’s a far better player than Ridley. People always talk about the Jamar chase effect on Higgins, but the effect Higgins has on chase’s production can’t be ignored either. The bengals offense is on a completely different level when Higgins plays.

Pats need to pay up for him.
I was against the Pats signing him but as I have watched how good Maye is we need a big X. Higgins has impressed me this year, I just hope that the Pats can close the deal. Just because we have money doesn't mean the player will sign., but hopefully they can come up with a good pitch.

This makes me laugh because I have a lot of people say no more twigs like Boney T, but then clamor for Travis Hunter. Not saying that you are doing this, but I have seen it here there and everywhere. Its funny because they have the same builds. I give you Hunter is a much better player.

What does this mean?
Teach the youngsters how to put on their cleats?
New to the organization WR signed to teach the kids the playbook?
Apparently, Wolf greatest strength is signing stable ponies.

He cashed checks.
He fulfilled no other role.

Bottom 5 grouping of WRs, perhaps worst in NFL.

For what?
Being the one FA WR to accept a Wolf contract?
So, it your opinion that Bourne, Douglas and Boutte are the worst set of #3, #4 and #5 WR's in the league?

The reality is that we need to see Polk and Baker get reps opposite real defenses. It is much more important for them to get reps than for us to come close a couple of times or even win one.

We just won't learn much in camps or the pre-season. We'll have another Thornton situation, wondering whether either could be a contributor in Year 2, 3 or even Year 4.
========
They have both been awful. That's the past. We need to evaluate their future, perhaps even as a #4 or #5 receiver.

The Saints make sense here, technically in the hunt but bad enough to have a chance at him before all the current projected playoff teams. Their OC was Osborn’s OC for his most productive season in Minnesota.

Tampa really could have used him when Mike Evans was out and they lost 3 games by 14 total points, but that ship seems to have sailed now. The Chargers have the biggest WR need right now. He could always end up back in Minnesota too, now that a trade’s impact on their comp picks is no longer relevant. Nailor started out hot as the #3 but has faded hard, 213 yards in the first six games and then 57 in the last seven.
