I'm sure that we an advantage in bidding for free agents OT's?

Are there any in the top 25 that will be available other than the often injured over 30 years old Stanley?

The reality is that if this were a GREAT year for OT's in free agency and in the top of the draft, we'd probably want to add THREE tackles, two vets and a draftee.

As it is, we are likely to get a mediocre free agent and perhaps a free agent if we are willing to use a top 10 pick on an OT, which we will likely be forced to do. We will likely need to use a second top pick on a tackle.

IMO, we look BETTER now than when the season started. We seem to have a couple of low-level backups out of Lowe, Wallace and Jacobs. Without considering Onwenu, I don't think that entering the season we saw anyone that had any HOPE for 2025 except perhaps Wallace as a backup.

It seems that the best we can hope is to trade down our first-round pick only a couple of spots and to use both our new picks for OT's. OR, we can reverse the 2024 coaching error and develop Wallace at RT ONLY from now forward and count on him to compete with Lowe and Jacobs to start at RT.

The quality of the tackle market depends on who resigns prior to free agency. Stanley and Bolles would both be significant additions for the short term. I'd be thrilled with either if there is also a plan to draft a T top 40.

I want to see the top pick used on the top left tackle prospect available in the draft. Also want to see the best FA LT signed here.

Then open the checkbook to sign a six week consulting contract with Dante to coach the OL coaching staff during camp and I’ll be happy. Three weeks before camp to coach the coaches, three weeks at the start of camp to coach both coaches and players. Then I’ll be happy.

The "Top OTs" are:
LT:
Garrett Bolles (33)
Cam Robinson (30)
Ronnie Staley (31)
Alaric Jackson (27)
Dan Moore, Jr (27)

RT:
Kelvin Beachum (36)
Trent Brown (32)
Isaiah Wynn (30)
Mekhi Becton (26) (spent the year in PHI at RG)

I believe that Staley, Jackson, and Moore will all receive the Franchise tag. Bolles likely isn't going anywhere.

Robinson may be a tag & trade type

Note that OverTheCap may have the players at LT/RT even though they aren't playing there currently. Players such as Becton and Matt Pryor are two examples.

that list is truly sad

Best case scenario imo is they sign Garrett Bolles in free agency, draft Travis Hunter with the 3rd pick in the draft, then trade up into the 20’s and take either Ersery or Simmons to groom behind Bolles.

1 stud OL or 2 decent starters (starters of other teams, not our mess of a line) , will make a huge difference. If I was Wolfe I’d blow his, er krafts wad on some good FA linemen and draft several. Yea several, I said it.

Bad year to need a LT. Draft doesn’t have a sure fire one, in fact the top two prospects are likely guards.

Free agency pretty bare also.

This is why I would go with Hunter or MacMillan with their first pick, and then trade up for Simmons or Ersery. I don’t think there’s that much difference between them and Banks and Campbell, and you can address both needs this way.

I’m good with this. I’d also be fine with best overall player not a QB or guard as it isn’t like this team couldn’t use talent at every spot.

Bolles and stanley are probably the best. They are older but seem to have a bit left in the tank. Id like either on a 2 year deal. Younger/longer term options are Dan Moore and Alaric Jackson . Im not sure if any of them will hit fa though, if they dont cam robinson will almost positively be available and another short term possibility. Imo even cam alone is better than anything available last year, with tyron smith going down (again) pretty sure none of last years LTs were worth signing.

This would be the way to go as a top 5 pick is too high for either tackle in the draft, not even sure if Campbell even projects as an ot in the nfl.

1.) draft Travis hunter in the first round. He is the only blue trip prospect in the draft!
2.) in round two take Simmons from Ohio State.
3.) In the third round take the WR from ole miss and the center from Georgia

In free agency get Stanley for left tackle and the best dt and best CB available

The first thing I look at when considering free agents or even value vet free agents is age. I'd prefer to keep it at or below thirty years of age, also I only looked at unrestricted free agents. Based on that here's a list of guys I'd look at from youngest to oldest:

Jedrick Willis (26 years) would be a good target for one tackle spot. Cleveland is in a terrible cap situation with Deshaun Watson's contract, they have a capable young backup behind Willis and can draft another as insurance.

Robert Hainsey (27) has played well for Tampa, he showed amazing versatility back when Tom was there sliding inside to play center.

Dillon Radunz (27) from the Titans is a plus athlete and would look better on an offense that has an actual QB.

Mekhi Becton (27) has had a year in a better more competent situation in Philadelphia, might be worth taking a look at on a cheap "show me" deal.

Tommy Doyle (27) suffered a bad injury early in his career, much like Becton might be worth a look on a one year "show me" deal.

Oli Udoh (28) is a year removed from serious injury and should be better prepared to contribute, play well and would be cheap.

Andre Dillard (29) is having a late career resurgence for a former #1 pick who didn't reach his potential, he has played well for the Packers.

Joe Noteboom (29) would be a great addition but he's one of the Rams few really good linemen and they're not exactly in cap trouble, he'd be an instant starter though.

I'd also bring restricted free agent Demontry Jacobs back and make sure he had his own personnel strength and conditioning coach working with him this offseason. They can cut every other tackle on the roster, they should also move Onwenu back inside to guard and make sure Sidy Sow has his head screwed on right this offseason.

There's some other older guys... but they're older and injury prone. These are the guys I'd either throw the bag at, or others who'd I'd bring in for a look on a short money deal with little to no guarantees... or what Elliot Wolf should have done last offseason instead of signing stiffs who can't play.

Regardless of who they sign, they should draft a tackle with the first overall pick and double dip later in the draft. Go offensive and defensive line heavy.

Dan Moore, Robinson, bolles are going to be available LTs in FA. Any one of them would do. Merely competence at the tackle spots would help Drake immensely. Adding Higgins on the outside will definitely help as well. I know bolles is great player but I'd rather steer clear of OL once they get into 30 plus. My reasoning being look at Dave Andrews. He's an iron man but has been often injured last few seasons.

I’m hoping for Stanley. Will be ok with Robinson. I want to trade down and go defense. Then, move back into 1st for a LT. I think Simmons and Ersery might be as good as Banks and Campbell.

Is it really? In what recent offseason has there been a better crop of prospective free agent LTs? Bolles and Stanley are both top 10 pass protectors, and Robinson is at least a middle of the pack guy.

Franchise LTs don't make it to free agency. Above average LTs rarely do. If there has been another year in this century where the free agent market had better options - real options, not cases of Orlando Pace or Walter Jones waiting until last moment to resign with their teams - then enlighten me.

Agreed , as it stands i cant remember a better selection at LT in a long time. Im sure some wont end up available but it looks like there will be at least a few that are well worth signing.

And Higgins may be the best wr to hit fa in a while too to my recollection. Good time to open up the checkbook

But would Higgins want to come here, I rather doubt it. Yes I know we are talking big money. But I just can't see it happening.

Stanley's had a down year this season.. he's one of most penalized LTs in the league. Nonetheless he's a great player.. but age 30.. we need stability at that position.. I'd rather sign a younger guy 25,26 to be there for Drake for a few years.. OL 30 and over it's just so difficult for those guys to stay healthy. However I'm open to Stanley or boles on a 3 year deal while drafting a guy as well. I'm with you defense! I like the DE carter.. I forgot what school he's at as I don't follow the NCAA like I used too. From what I hear Carter is demon pass rusher, we need GAME changers on defense we have enough JAGs already. We need good to great players.
