He was an All-Pro at corner his rookie season. FWIW, I'm still not convinced that the struggles were solely his in 2011 so much as the giant cluster that was the defense that year (Brady and the offense carried that defense to the SB).

In any case, I agree that, yes, some sort of shift in usage might benefit Forbes.

If I recall correctly. McCourty suffered a shoulder injury that season and struggled even after coming back from that. Took away a lot of his physicality. I might be mistaken, but I kind of remember it as he was fine early then after the injury he was dreadful for a while and then late in the year got back to playing ok as the shoulder fully healed. Then the next year he was again solid at CB until they got Talib and moved to more man coverage with him going to FS.

I remember it as the issue wasn't that he was a bad CB, it was just that he was a zone CB. BB's preferred style was always cover 1 man and once they got CB play to accommodate that he went back to it, with McCourty being an ideal fit as a the deep FS there which is a crucial role to that scheme as well. But if they never figured out the secondary to being able to play cover 1 man, I thought McCourty could have stayed as a fine zone CB.

I understand that plenty of guys get cut by one team and succeed on another, but it's funny how this board will complain all the time about how we have practice squad guys and players who aren't good enough to be on other NFL rosters but then also have meltdowns when we don't sign guys that other teams decided weren't good enough to be on their rosters.

Whoa. Picked just ahead of Gonzo in the 1st round in the 2023 draft. Wonder what made them give up on him. Some of us wanted him here too.

I never wanted him in the 1st round; 2nd round might've been a different story, depending on who else was available.

Nonetheless, I say Claim the CB Beast version of BoneyT... Don't cost nuthin'.

We have the most Talented Team in the League on last check. Watch the Rams turn him around sometimes guys perform better in another scenario. We could have taken the chance but we have better on our Roster.

For him saying yeah we don’t have a a lot of talent we knew this would take time.
That’s not the message you sent to the fans.
It’s such a losing attitude, we won games with Troy brown and Edelman playing defense.
We won games with Benjarvis green Ellis at RB,
We won games with frickin Aaron Dobson and David Patten who was working in an warehouse prior to coming to the pats.

We won games because of prep and coaching.
Now we are ok with losing I can’t stand these Patriots.
And i will buy my Maye jerseys on eBay and DH gate.
