Does anyone think there is a chance Mayo is one and done?

The biggest improvement this team can make in the offseason is for Mayo to take some serious psych coaching.
1. Don't try to win the likability award, re-instill old-school discipline (fear)
2. Follow corporate America and dump the DEI philosophy, hire the best possible asst. coaches & staff
3. Keep your mouth shut, except for taking ALL responsibility of the team

This isn’t an intern for an entry level management this is the HC of the Patriots you gotta be kidding me.

Of course I'm kidding that he'd go to therapy.
But, absolutely NOT KIDDING that these 3 things need to be done to turn this around next year.

Or... I know this is crazy so sit down before reading... they could hire someone qualified as head coach.

Weird spot for the 49ers to be in. They have been in win-now mode for a while and gotten close a couple of times but now seem to be on the other side. They have a decision to make with Purdy in the offseason and have some highly paid guys like CMC and Deebo whose best days seem to be behind them. They have guys like Kittle and Trent Williams who are still great players but are getting up there in age. I assume they will pay Purdy and try it again next year, but I can’t imagine they will feel too confident that plan will work.
Their window has shut. Purdy is losing money right now. He's got a noodle arm and isn't effective without an All Star cast on the offense.

Josh Mcdaniels had perhaps the most dishonorable head coaching stint in NFL history, not only once but twice. Matt Patricia isn't too far behind, with a truly embarrassing display in Detroit. Should we get compensated for these guys departures when they nearly ruined other franchises? You make a good point, but how should their value be judged?
What about teams that make bad draft picks?

The picks looked good at the time, as did the coaching hires.

If they don’t work out for the team that hired them, that doesn’t mean it wasn’t a loss to the Pats.

What about the GM losses like Scott Pioli?

He can't do that because he doesn't have any credibility like Bill did. He was known around the NFL of taking down the best offenses as a DC, so players listened when he spoke. What does Mayo have to offer to get players to trust him?

He should rightly be fired for not challenging that 3rd down trap yesterday. Even if it got overruled (it wouldn't have been).

That gets overturned, the Colts *punt* on 4th and 12 with 4 minutes to go, and your defense isn't on the field for 19 plays to lose the game, and you don't get the chance to blow a timeout for no reason when the Colts get inside the 5.

That's as bad as what Eberflus just got fired for. This is the third game that Mayo has lost them this year, due to complete and utter incompetent game management.

I think Purdy is a JAG, but he did play game manager enough to get them to the Super Bowl last year. I wouldn't pay him, but if I had to guess, the 49ers do.

I think Bolles wants the most security meaning the longest contract with the most guaranteed money. After that I think he will play RT to extend his career. Also he can help at LT in a pinch. Ideal situation IMO.

Yes, we have to wait to see with Strange. Bourne too.

Wallace looks like a bust. Bolles might last 3 years at RT. That is all any team or player can expect.
It's most certainly a FUBAR situation on the OL.

Following this logic further -

Patricia was mocked in 2022 because the players would ask him questions about "what to do if X happens", etc... and Patricia would not know, and said he would have to get back to them. People pointed and laughed.

Does anyone think that that's not happening with Mayo? I am pretty certain that Mayo is getting lots of questions from his players that he doesn't know the answer to. Hell, he does it in press conferences. Gets confused, answers with something that doesn't make sense, says some word salad, has to come back the next day and backtrack/correct what he said before. Do we think it's any different in the locker room? If anything it might be worse.

At least Patricia said he didn't know. I'd be willing to bet Mayo pretends he knows and gives the players an answer, then comes back the next day to "correct" his previous answer, just like in the media. Then tells the media that the players "didn't execute".

And before anyone gets mad - I'm not trying to glorify Patricia, because that was stupid as hell too. This is just the same thing but even worse.

He is breaking down. He may need to be let go for his own sanity.
Am I the only one on here that sees that Mayo was not and is not suited to be a HC? He wasn't even a Coordinator (let alone a successful one). I cannot fathom any legitimate football reason as to why he was made HC. And I don't want to hear from anyone the incredibly obvious (that the team except for Maye, Gonzo, Barmore, and possibly White has minimal to no talent). That was painfully obvious at the end of last season. Additonally, I was not a supporter from Day 1 of Mayo being named HC. Of course I hoped that I was wrong (as I want to team to be successful in its rebuild).

No you are not the only one. Exactly what I said at the time and got hammered for it. 100% there was no legitimate football reason for which he was made HC.

here’s the deal, you gotta be a leader. Sometimes an Ahole. How many likable coaches have driven their team to championship caliber. Take Andy Reid out of it…..who else?

Pete Carroll. Coughlin famously was such a hard ass that he was losing the team and needed a come to Jesus meeting to cool things down and chill and they won titles after that. McVay recently got one. The Pederson Eagles when they beat us basically were all going on about how they had a more lax environment. Add Reid in and you got 6 of the last 14 titles.

Hell Bruce Arians was basically just along for the ride and was pretty relaxed overall himself as a coach and considered likeable.

Belichick's sort of been the last bastion of the authoritarian style coach. The league has definitely shifted a lot over the last decade.

As a fanbase we were used to it because Bill got it done and we gave him the benefit of the doubt for a long time even after that. But it's become much more of a player league in recent times.

You're not the only one. I trashed the hire the day it happened and all offseason.

I know the Red Sox aren’t exactly seen in a good light these days. But it’s hit me that Mayo is like Bobby Valentine. Just as clueless in the games, just as much of a clown with the media.

At least when the Red Sox ousted Francona to get their man Bobby V, they didn’t let their egos get in the way when he was a complete clown show disaster and they fired him after just that one season. Let’s hope Mr. Robert “I was just as important to the dynasty as Brady and Belichick” Kraft sees the light, swallows his pride, and does the right thing that first Monday following the last game of the season.
