He is a 6'1" corner....

Hopefully the Giants, Raiders, and Jags don't put in a claim.....

****...if the Raiders didn't screw up yesterday...we would be #3 in line with games to be played tomorrow...

Unlike Tankathon, the waiver wire order only resets at the start of each competition week (i.e., after MNF).

If this front office doesn't take a flyer on Forbes, they better know what the hell they are doing. Rookie contract and actually talented. What do they have to lose?? They must have the master plan of all plans.

Different scenario entirely but I remember in the 95 draft when Tyrone Poole was drafted by the Panthers at 22 and Ty Law right behind him by the Pats at 23. Obviously Law was a hall of famer, but interestingly enough, Poole ended up winning 2 SB’s
with us at CB2.

Would be great and fill a huge need if we could get lucky with Forbes to play in that 2 role. But yeah, I’m kind of skeptical why he was released like he was. Smells fishy, either he flat out stinks in their system or he has huge character concerns, possibly law trouble. I’m not sure but I’m willing to bet you can’t count on 1 hand how many 1st round picks have been dumped in their 2nd year on a rookie deal.

This is what AJ Brown did to Forbes. Yikes.

I think this is a raw kid who can be real good with the right coaching.

It's 5 million guaranteed.

That's a lot for someone cut under these circumstances.

This isn't like first cut to 53 when roster spots are at a premium.

We can cut any starter and they will not be claimed. See Michael Jackson.

Jalen Reagor went a pick before Justin Jefferson: yeah it happens.

On the order of $1M this year, $2M next year, and $3M in 2026, all of it fully guaranteed.
So $6M
No thanks. If they gave up on him that quick then something’s up
If he clears waivers and you can get him for a 1 year prove it deal.
Then I’d be fine with that

The Pros:
Former #16 pick in 2023 draft
Returned six picks for scores in college
6’ 1”, ran 4.35
No signing bonus

The Cons
Benched and released
166 pounds before the draft
Liability against the run
Two years remaining on the contract

Pretty limited downside. You can coach adding 15 pounds - you can’t coach Marcus Jones to add 4”.
Picking up $5M seems like a lot but it’s over a couple years and the Pats have like $130M in cap space next year.

I live outside DC and heard this on the radio driving home tonight. The big point in the reporting was that he was the last first round pick by Ron Rivera left on the roster, and he had been on the inactive list a lot. Seems it might be housecleaning from the old coaching regime. New coaches may not think as highly of him as the staff that drafted him. IIRC when he was drafted ahead of Gonzo there was some head scratching but not total disbelief or that he was a total reach.

Seems he might be worth a shot. I’d even consider a claim not totally crazy, Pats have the cap space and cash enough to endure a bad bet with such upside. Problem waiting to see if he clears waivers in hopes of signing him is that 31 other teams may be doing the same and the Pats aren’t a very attractive suitor if they’re competing with other teams to sign him. Although it’s likely he’d be going to the PS iwherever he signs if he clears waivers. I just think our CB depth is thin enough that having him on the roster might be an improvement.

It would be interesting to see if he and Gonzo could be anchoring the DBs for the next few years. Worth making the bet, as it’s one the team can afford to cover the ante.

Forbes' pay averages $2M a year. If the Pats cut him and someone picks him up then the Pats do not have to pay the balance of the contract. Next year his salary is $1M with a cap of $273M, that is 0.36% of the cap for a top half of the 1st round pick. Less than 1/2 of 1%.

I think we should try him considering how desperately we need a CB#2. It is a lot different for Forbes if Gonzo is CB#1 and Forbes only has to be CB#2 - much lower expectations. Much easier assignments with a group around him to pick up his spirits.

Forbes will add wieght over the off-season just like Tyquan did. OH wait. Forget that comparison.

You’re already halfway there. That list of the six first round picks dumped by Washington has three that were dumped before their third year: Forbes, Dotson, Haskins

Keep in mind that the Commanders just got Marshon Lattimore in a trade from the Saints earlier this month. That may have been the kiss of death for Forbes.

The No. 16 overall pick in last year’s draft finishes his Washington career appearing in 20 games with seven starts, and 45 tackles, including two for loss, 12 passes defended, and two interceptions.

Forbes is subject to waivers, and if another NFL team claims him, they take on the remainder of his rookie contract, which includes a fifth-year option.

That’s the biggest thing that worries me
The man is a twig. How was his injury history
