My guess is if Kraft is calling around about advice on how to best develop Maye, he is going to do whatever he can to make the kid a superstar. I think the Pats will get a true #1 WR this offseason either in free agency or trade. I think they will be players in free agency and spend a lot of draft capital building up the offense.

Plus, AVP is doing a great job developing Maye. He definitely needs to get better as an OC and play calling, but he is improving there too.

I have no real love for Kraft but the way some people on here have zero trust in him is nuts to put it nicely.

While I was not around for the start, by all accounts, he took a team that was a dumpster fire and made it into one of the premiere teams in the NFL while going to 10 SBs.

That is as good as it gets in terms of results over a long period of time. The fact that he lucked into the Bills and Brady or whatever other excuses people use is irrelevant.

This is a ridiculous take. Bruce Arians will most likely make it to the HOF, won coach of the year twice, SB and his work on the Colts, Cardinals, and Bucs were all worthy of him being one of the top HCs in those years.

Mike McCarthy, for all the criticism he gets, is still a very good HC. His offense is always tough to defend and causes teams problems. You see the stamp on the teams that he coaches.

What does Mayo do? What has he done so far that makes you think he's gonna be good? I don't see any defensive scheme that makes you think 'this guy is good'. His leadership has been questioned. His game management has been questioned. His team's lack of adjustments during games has been questioned. What is it that you see?

Why? In the modern NFL, defensive coaches rarely get a shot at a HC job. And those that do generally have been a DC on a Super Bowl team. Think Flores. Not only has Mayo never been a DC on a Superbowl team. He's never been a DC! Kraft promoted him on a hunch. Because his senile brain took a liking to him! Mayo is totally & completely unqualified to be a HC. Time will not fix this.

Mayo will be fired, it's just a matter of when. The Pats will not be a serious playoff contender until a real coach is hired & everyone in the league knows it. All the Pats are doing is wasting away Maye's rookie contract. The question is, how much of the advantage of having a Top 10 NFL QB on a Rooke contract will the team piss away? I'm hoping Jonathan talks some sense into his Dad & it's only one year.

Did you ever consider what Mayo IS good at. He's a great leader who players will follow even though the adversity of a losing season. The team IS competitive but like a lot of rebuilding teams they haven't learned how to win those games late. Sure, you can second guess some of his decisions. Some were clearly mistakes. But like Drake, Mayo is a rookie and will likely LEARN from his mistakes.

If the Pats remain playing hard and gradually improve, he not only deserves to be back, but he also deserves a public apology from the knee jerk mob that you run with here.

other things are involved in getting that kind of connection between QB's and WR, For the most part most of our WRs are young and unfamiliar with the pro game, let alone a rookie QB with 5 games experience. That kind of connection will be something to look for NEXT year and going forward.

I was dead WRONG about Maye's development. Based on what I saw in camp, I thought it would take at LEAST 10 games before he'd see him in a game. And even then I didn't expect to see the kind of play we are getting from as was pointed out in the Ram's analysis. Clearly he has cleared up his footwork to a greater extent than one would expect. But his accuracmnnmy and velocity when he goes "off platform" is FAR more advanced than we had a right to expect. Finally, his football IQ seems to be off the charts. He is reading defenses, recognizing post snap coverages as was pointed out in the Rams review, seem to be extraordinary.

Daniels is having a spectacular rookie season, IMHO, but given what we have both seen with our own eyes and been told by guys who are a lot smarter that we are, we REALLY might end up with the best QB of the 3, long term. Remember. The best ability is availability... And at 6'4 and 230, I think he is simply going to be going to bear up better in the long run than Daniels at 205. When he was drafted, we all hoped that Maye would be our future franchise QB. Looks like the future is NOW!

BTW- I think the most exciting thing McCoy said, was that Maye "elevated those around him". That is a rare quality and something to be excited about;

I could not disagree more. Mayo is not good at one single thing & has no business being the HC of an NFL team.

It is extraordinarily rare to have a NFL HC with no experience on the offside side of the ball. Those that come from the defensive side generally have coordinated Championship caliber defenses. Not only has Mayo never coached a championship level defense, he has never even been a DC!

He simply doesn’t have the resume to justify his current position. And his performance shows just how unqualified he is. He doesn’t add any value to the offense. Defense is supposed to be his specialty, and the strength of the team. Yet the defense gets worse every week. They make no in game adjustments on the Defensive side of the ball, can’t stop the run and constantly give up chunk plays. Unbelievably, the the offense is now carrying the defense and the front office feels the need to hire additional help for the defensive coaching staff, which should tell you everything you need to know about Mayo.

So we have a HC that can’t coach the O. He can’t coach the D. He’s a disaster at communicating to the media and sticks his foot in his mouth almost every week. He calls himself a “walk around, CEO” coach, unburdened by the distractions of play calling, yet he makes bone headed game management mistakes every week that cost his team points and games. His team continues to play undisciplined football, freelancing on defense & taking far too many penalties.

Mayo adds zero value as HC. Any success the team has is based on AVP & Maye carrying Mayo’s baggage. It’s an insult to the fan base that Thunder handed over his greatest asset to an ass kissing stuffed suit who is completely incapable of doing the job.
