Why don't any of you have patience?

the roster was lacking.

the holes they filled were filled with subpar talent.

Okorafor? Osborne? come on... There were guys out there who were better options. They may have tried with Ridley... but zero results.

This team needs to change the way they approach free agency. Belichick is not here anymore. The coaching staff has yet to show it can coach up lower tiered players like BB was able to. Until that happens they will need to spend money.

The issue is this team does not want to spend money.
They HAVE to spend money, so this year hopefully there's better options out there that will be worth spending on.

Ivan is right in a sense that they do need to spend responsibly... but they do need to spend. they should have been spenders last year. There are a lot of holes that need to be patched up. Theres depth that needed to be built. They didn't do any of that. They sat on their hands and let stuff happen. BB did that to a degree, and it bugged the **** outta me then too.

Yesterday was a step in the right direction. Get a win next week and it all starts to feel much better. If the Pats can manage to get 5 wins and walk away from the season with a legit QB that is a very big difference from 1-16, 2-15.

25 points with the worst talent in the league and no Maye for the large majority of the game. Decent.
The Jets deciding to not run the ball, with the guy gashing the Patriots for 5 ypc, isn't anything to do with the Patriots.

Drake Vick on the first drive, Marcus MVP Jones punt return on another, and Jacoby with the shackles off on the last one. All good things - but let's not pretend this was anything but an overrated team on the road, thinking they were going to walk in and beat the dogshit out of the Patriots without having to try (like they did the last time they played).

The Pats were 1-6. The win means something even if the story is moreso about the Jets. Any win for the Pats is a good one and a step in the right direction.

This isn’t the 12-4 Patriots beating the hapless divisional teams where it ought to be taken with a grain of salt.

If you don’t wanna give the Pats any credit though so be it.

You can 'give them credit' for taking advantage of their opportunities (they did), and still realize that they still suck, badly (they do).

If Jacoby didn’t take a huge sack against Seattle and Polk’s heel was inbounds, this would be a 4-4 team this morning…….

If ifs and buts were candies and nuts, we'd all have a Merry Christmas.

If Gieseki hangs onto the ball, or the other TE doesn't fumble walking into the end zone, and the Jets don't completely **** the bed on the last drive yesterday, this would be an 0-8 team this morning.

Wouldn’t a better step in the right direction be finishing with 2 wins and walk away with a legit stud OL draft pick?

They suck obviously. Literally no one has said anything else.

You are what your records says, no matter how you got there.

Losing is no fun. To me, there have been some miserably bad decisions over the last five years which have erased much potential, sabotaged our chances of winning and created the mess we have today.

Kraft & Belichick operate mostly on their individual values and philosophy (har har yeah BB's gf ho ho). As opposed to a tangible, more substance-based modus operandi. Each person is very good at certain aspects of their jobs, ownership and coaching respectively. The worst of them has been exposed, possibly because twenty years of unmatched success provided no incentive to develop or grow.

They were power/control focused to begin with and all that winning just made them moreso. Now that Bill's gone, we just have Bob. And I am not optimistic about Jonathan instilling a new way of doing things after his dad stops running the show.

So, we still have a team. And Maye looks good so far. To me, most of his teammates and coaches are very replaceable.

Because I'm not a doctor!!!

all of that... and you're fine with where they are right now...

i can't see how anyone is fine with where they are right now.

I’m fine with it because I actually expected Brissett to play the vast majority of games this season, and knew that would be a lot of losing. And I wish they had followed that path. It’s next season that I expect them to play at a much higher level. I thought the 24’ free agency was total garbage, and it always takes rookies at least a season to get used to the level of play in the NFL, so I didn’t expect much more if anything than what we saw last year. I think putting together a really good team from where they were starting takes 3-4 years, and I think the people who wanted an immediate turn around want them to sacrifice long term success for short term happiness. I don’t care about being “ entertained,” and I don’t care about their wins and losses this tear. I want them to build a long term contender and I’m willing to forego short term happiness for long term success. I have been saying this all along so it shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone, just as I’m not surprised by certain people here demanding instant success, and that they are willing to clear out every coach and G.M. 5 minutes into their tenure if they don’t get their way.

We first have to be honest with ourselves as fans... things take a long time when you rush out to sign Okorafor as an answer.

Good teams sign good players, they find other teams hidden gems and steal them when that team is in a little bit of a salary cap bind. It's what the dynasty did for decades, go out and find "value vet" free agents that other teams didn't covet as much and turn them into starters.

Nincovich, Vrabel, Welker, Rodney Harrison, pretty much the entire 2001 free agent class, Lawrence Guy and on and on and on... these guys were considered too old, they were late round picks or UDFA's by their prior teams so they were unknowns league wide. The Patriots recognized their talent, scouted their play on special teams or in spot duty and went out and signed them.

Wolf signed dogs... bad free agents. We need to be honest about who they're signing... start there. When I said Okorafor sucked this offseason, so many fans here jumped to his defense it was crazy, when I said relying on Lowe, Leverett or Jordan was a bad idea the same thing... fans here said I was wrong.

Bad players are bad players, true whether BB or Wolf signs them. The length of time it takes to turn this around depends on their ability to find and sign better players.

We suck right now because, despite having the most resources in the entire NFL this offseason... they signed bad players. Excuses for losers.

Bill Belichick built most of this team, so blame him.

The only good players we have… tell me what Wolf added with the third overall pick at the top of each round and the most cap space in the entire NFL after signing all their own free agents?

He needed a QB, a kicker and a starting tackle…

Drake Maye was a slam dunk at #3… I said be honest, what else did Wolf do right?

My take on why many don't have patience...

1.) This is new territory for many fans. Those who became fans during the Tom Brady era have had the luxury of the regular season essentially being the 'pre season'. it was almost a foregone conclusion that the Pats would advance to the AFC Championship game and THAT is when the season started. So in that sense the Pats are a victim of their own success.

2.) This is year one with the Mayo-May combo, but many look at it as year five of the rebuild and instead of year one. So in that sense Cam Newto and Mac Jones have cut into people's patience.

3.) Plus the instant success stories of the NFL have given higher expectations for every team. The instant success of the Commanders this year and the Texans last year give unrealistic expectations that all teams' problems should be solved in an offseason or two.

Even with all that being said, do I honestly think Mayo is the answer as a head coach...no...but I alos recognize that it's early and that it's premature to come to any conclusion.

You don’t strive for 8-9, you put the right pieces in place every chance you get, and the 2024 free agent market wasn’t one where you could get significant players and sign them to big contracts, it was one where jag players were getting paid like A-Listers, so wasting money in that market would have been stupid. I’m fine with where they are at right now, it’s next season where I expect more, and then I expect play offs in 26’, if not 25 as a wild card.
In proving foresight may be vain:
The best laid schemes o’ Mice an’ Men
Gang aft agley,
An’ lea’e us nought but grief an’ pain,
For promis’d joy!
