That’s what I’m thinking. Offense has been mediocre and run game with zippo to contribute but the defense has been way worse since Maye stepped in.

I understand that there have been a lot of critical injuries but damn they have been awful.
Your right. I know we have some huge voids on defense.. but I mean come on.. these guys play with no passion, pride or any fire. It's beyond coaching to me.. I don't think Any coach in the NFL is telling players not to put in effort, tackle, play with fire, and pride. Those are things players have to do on thier own.

Bill was fired because of the offense, not the defense.

You make no sense with the rest of argument. Of course a pick 6 should never be held against the defense. That's basic.

Are you kidding me about McGinest and the 1990s? McGinest was one of the most criticized players on the team during those years. He received more abuse from Patriots fans on the AOL board than anyone. He started his career well but under Carroll he was considered a bust for getting drafted so high.
Bill was fired because he hasn’t drafted any impact players on both offense or defense going on 10 years. If he had, they’d have a better record and he’d still be here.

McGinest was criticized because he was always dealing with an injury.

The last good offense that the Patriots defense handled was the Rams in SB53. It’s been a while.

Giving up 10 points to a Tommy Devito offense isn’t nearly enough to impress me. Just illustrates how only the most uninformed fans think points is the only way to measure a defense.

I agree that the proximate cause for Bill's getting the boot was his dismal record as GM, but he was certainly in decline as a HC as well. His asinine pettiness in mismanaging Mac Jones would itself be reasonable grounds for firing him. I'll always celebrate and be grateful for the Glory Years, but firing him was absolutely the right thing to do. If the Krafts had fired him two or three years earlier, we'd be better off today.

Given that we know now the relationship with the Krafts wasn’t good for a long time, Bill should’ve left with Tom after the 2019 season.

The situation was very similar to Phil Jackson and the Bulls.

No Dugger, Uche or Ekuale, this defense man just brutal injuries. I know Uche isn’t injury related.

Bill certainly did help to establish the precedent of hiring your pals, however incompetent. I gather Mayo's children are too young to hire, so we're safe there.
I believe his brother is a coach. Of course Hightower is LBs coach. At least Hightower played the position at a all pro level. Alot of guys hired previously were lacrosse players.

I don't even know what to say about this defense anymore.. it's worse than a practice squad.. can we just forfeit through game and go on to 1-7..

Uche better get at least a fourth, Id hope for a third.
Thornton went from being on the trade block to playing.
If Thonton amd Maye Connect on a few plays no way they should trade him.

I hate to break it to the fans and the Pats media guys - Uche is not good.
He's not a playmaker, not an enforcer, not a high-motor guy, not a solid fundamental guy.
It's been all hype with him, with about 2 "big" plays per season. Otherwise he's invisible.
So, if they give his snaps to Mathis that's fine. No loss.
