Why not? Bologna Bob knew what Tom was asking for and could've told Bill give him the extra year for $25M. I highly doubt Bill would've thrown a fit that he'd have to coach Tom for another couple years. However, it's a moot point because Brian Hoyer revealed Tom was planning his exit.

Tom was planning his exit because he had issues with Bill who wanted to keep him year to year and Brady was fed up and then in his free agency Bill basically didn't attempt to give him anything.

I am not a fan of calling a team or player out in public the way Mayo is doing. But if you do, you should at least have some credibilty as a coach before you start point fingers at everyone but yourself.

Don't give him the Franchise tag and make TB have to be the bad guy who holds out coming off a SB. Then if need be Tag him even if it's just to trade him for something. Oh and don't tell him years in advance that you'll let him do this if that's what he wants. At the very least bluff and then in the end if you want to cave and let him walk out of some sort of gratuity you're still the nice guy.

I believe Kraft is on record stating he wouldn't stand in his way as early as following 2017 season. How about just telling him you're under contract and we'll use the tag if we have to. Again at the end of the day you don't have to be the mean guy and actually use it but I don't see the benefit of telling him early it just the object in motion
