Belichick remarks on Mayo's "soft" comments on Pat McAfee Show - "They're not soft"

Why not? Bologna Bob knew what Tom was asking for and could've told Bill give him the extra year for $25M. I highly doubt Bill would've thrown a fit that he'd have to coach Tom for another couple years. However, it's a moot point because Brian Hoyer revealed Tom was planning his exit.
Tom was planning his exit because he had issues with Bill who wanted to keep him year to year and Brady was fed up and then in his free agency Bill basically didn't attempt to give him anything.

I know it's inconveniant for people to hear, but the GOAT left when he still had Super Bowl and MVP caliber years because he had a problem with Bill Belichick and Bill and his staff were too far up their own ass and thought they could win without him and flopped.

Who told him he wouldn't stand in the way? Who granted him a no franchise clause? Yup as much as everyone wants to blame mean Bill that mess was really Kraft's fault. He chose Bill over Brady, then he fires Bill, and now he's left to cry about the HoF.
You can't ignore the reason why things happened. What started the situation? Bill wanted to go year to year with Brady and Brady felt disrespected and already thought he was being treated poorly by Bill. What also played into it? Bill lost the trust of a lot of players who felt screwed over by his stunt with Butler in the 2017 Super Bowl. It led to Gronk walking and it led to Brady and other players thinking Bill ****ed over the team for his own personal reasons. What happened after? Bill did not even attempt to secure Brady when he hit free agency and made no good faith effort to repair the rift.

Brady left because he had an issue with Bill. You can cry about Kratf granting him the no franchise clause, but the reality was, it was just going to speed up Brady's exit if they didn't give him something to accept Bill's ****ty handling of the situation.

It's pretty simple, if Bill swallowed his pride and treated the GOAT player with a modicum of respect and dealt with him fairly, Brady would have retired here and Bill would probably still be coaching. Bill forced a him or Brady decision for Kraft. Kraft picked Bill because he trusted his judgment. He realized he shouldn't have trusted Bill's judgement and ended up regretting it. Now Bill can't find a job.

Remember when fans blasted the FO for picking Maye instead of MHJ who has a total of 145 yards receiving since week 2? That was fun.

Exactly.

Kraft could have stepped in at any time to overrule BB and keep Brady a Patriot. He chose not to.

I think Singletary did something somewhat comparable but it can't be a common approach.

"Can't win with them"
LoL, Singletary has got to be one of the worst guys ever to coach in NFL. Not surprised he did that if he did.
I am not a fan of calling a team or player out in public the way Mayo is doing. But if you do, you should at least have some credibilty as a coach before you start point fingers at everyone but yourself.

I don't think so, Tom wanted out and I don't think there was any way they could stop him from leaving. After all he did for the franchise, RK gave him what he wanted, to leave.

Don't give him the Franchise tag and make TB have to be the bad guy who holds out coming off a SB. Then if need be Tag him even if it's just to trade him for something. Oh and don't tell him years in advance that you'll let him do this if that's what he wants. At the very least bluff and then in the end if you want to cave and let him walk out of some sort of gratuity you're still the nice guy.

What did Kraft end up getting for his supposed show of good will?

Exactly.

We always discuss this as though we are in hopeless denial about the way Brady left the Patriots.

We never want to admit that our hero WHILE HE WAS UNDER CONTRACT showed up on Ross's yacht with the intention of joining our archenemy Dolphins. BEFORE the 2019 season.

I am the furthest thing from a Kraft fan but Kraft was not keeping Brady in New England. Brady wanted to go elsewhere and win, and he didn't seem to care that he was under contract, nor that he was joining the enemy. This would've been a Clemens-move.

I won't blame Kraft for this, though I will blame Kraft for forcing Guerrero into the locker room despite the objections of the coaches.

We still haven't come to grips with what really happened in 2019 -- the Dynasty film entirely ignored one of the most jaw-dropping incidents in Patriot history.

And it's never talked about here either. Conveniently forgotten. Repression / Denial.

Indeed it did.

Hightower, McCourty, McCourty, Chung, Jamie Collins, Van Noy, Jackson, all gone from the team.

They were old. They were slow. I was at that game. What YOU couldn't see on the television, I could. And that was Devin McCourty correctly diagnosing the plays, the end arounds, the screens, the short stuff, especially to Isaiah McKenzie, and even though you could see him break the second the intended Bill went into motion, the poor guy could never ever get there in time. If you were a Patriot fan in the stadium that night, it was sad to see the heroes of Patriot past on their last legs like old men. I watched on TV and didn't see this stuff. But Hightower, McCourty and friends were well past their prime.

Belichick overhauled that defense and brought in several fast and young players who have performed well, and under Belichick, they were very good, despite being put in horrible field position by the worst QB we've ever seen since Scott Secules and Nathan Peterman.

Bill must really hate Mayo. 3 separate times this week he has criticized him. True Mayo has shown nothing but Bill is a spiteful angry old man.
He knows this will really undercut Mayo and he just does not care

Bill has kept his mouth shut since he left, since that time how many backhanded shots did the Pat’s brass take at him?

For fck’s sake they made an entire documentary suggesting he had no involvement in the dynasty, Kraft has slammed him repeatedly in interviews and on podcasts. Mayo has blamed him for the level of talent on the team despite the fact the only good players the team currently has were Bill’s players and all the ones Wolf brought in alone have sucked.

So to hell with that, you wanted honesty… now you got it. I don’t even think Bill has been petty, the ones joking about how bad the Pat’s suck has been his cohosts like Pat McAfee, Scatchy or Lombardi.

These guys are all analysts now, all 32 teams are fair game. To hell with feelings… all these guys are right. This organization looks like it’s run by clowns doing clownish things. Call it what it is…
What did Mayo do to Bill? Not speculation but proven fact.

This narrative about poor Bill being a victim is BS

He wouldn't have asked for a two year contract if he wanted out.

BB is 1/2 right.

Losing Barmore, Guy, Bentley and Peppers is significant.

Even freaking Myles Bryant had 65 solo tackles last year which 7 were behind the LoS.

So while BB can argue the team is not "soft" and disagree with a HC calling out the team publicly is not helpful, he is disingenuous to say they are the same run defense as 2023.
Couldn’t of said it any better.

You're getting the dates mixed up. According to the Flores lawsuit:

After the end of the 2019 season, Mr. Ross began to pressure Mr. Flores to recruit a prominent quarterback in violation of League tampering rules. Mr. Flores repeatedly refused to comply with these improper directives.
"Undeterred, in the winter of 2020, Mr. Ross invited Mr. Flores onto a yacht for lunch. Shortly after he arrived, Mr. Ross told Mr. Flores that the prominent quarterback was 'conveniently' arriving at the marina.

I believe Kraft is on record stating he wouldn't stand in his way as early as following 2017 season. How about just telling him you're under contract and we'll use the tag if we have to. Again at the end of the day you don't have to be the mean guy and actually use it but I don't see the benefit of telling him early it just the object in motion

For a man who absolutely embarrassed himself the past few years and even dented his legacy when Brady left; Bill sure talks a lot of smack.

That's because the only people who think his Legacy is not fully intact are dumb Patriots fans.

Seriously. Find me anyone who talks about Bill like Patriot fan haters?

His legacy is one of the all time coaching greats in football and in sports- and it’s also more complicated than it probably could have been.

Even when you try to say something nice you can't.

No one else sees anything as complicated except for a small segment of delusional Patriots fans.
