We need to claim him. We have 20 players on the roster who don’t belong in the NFL. Surely we can find room to try and rehab a 25 year old former first rounder.

It's Jamin DaviS not David. FFS a little proof reading goes a long way
His 5th year was declined so the money is short, worth a shot

I’m really skeptical that he’s about to come in and do anything worthwhile at LB given that he hasn’t even been practicing at that position for the last 4+ months.

He also has some off-field stuff. One reckless driving arrest was reduced to a fine. Another resulted in a 180 day suspended sentence. He was not charged (but was sued in civil court) for allegedly racing a teammate who crashed, resulting in the death of that teammate’s girlfriend.

Asante "Samuels" and Josh "McDaniel" are my favorite names people butchered.

Not sure why Jamin Davis never lived up to his draft hype, but it's not as if he is the first to have that happen - even from just one team.

41. LB Jamin Davis, Kentucky
Davis put together one heck of a season in his first year as a starter in 2020, earning an 87.5 run-defense grade for the Wildcats and showing some legit sideline-to-sideline range. He ran in the 4.4s at his pro day and tied the record for the highest vertical jump ever recorded by an off-ball linebacker (42 inches). He has all the athletic tools to be your do-it-all linebacker in the NFL.

32. Jamin Davis, LB, Kentucky
Jamin Davis is almost assuredly going in the first round somewhere. He is the cleanest of the linebacker prospects right now.

This exercise led me to the incredible front office career of Martin Mayhew, the former Buffalo/Washington/Tampa CB.
Mayhew was the general manager who drafted Davis (and other draft busts above).
He earned a law degree after retiring as a player, which apparently goes a long ways in his interviews.
The teams that he has been part of have had a mere four winning seasons in his 20-plus years as an NFL executive, yet he keeps on being employed to healthy salaries.

I feel as though if Mayhew liked this (or any) player, the best course of action is to stay away.

- 2000: worked as a low-level scout for Washington ahead of the draft
- 2001: director of football administration for the XFL, until it folded later that year
- 2001: hired by Detroit as senior director of football adminstration by Matt Millen
- 2004: promoted by Millen to assistant general manager
- 2008: promoted to GM after Millen is fired
- 2015: fired after Detroit starts season 1-7
- 2016: director of football operations, New York Giants
- 2017: senior personnel executive, San Francisco 49ers
- 2019: promoted to VP of player personnel, 49ers
- 2021: hired by Washington to be their general manager
- 2024: fired as GM, but retained as senior personnel executive and advisor to new GM Adam Peters

We don’t have a coaching staff anymore that can turn these types of guys around, like we used to.
He still has a better chance of being a good player than half our roster

At least he has raw talent. We have a couple dozen usfl caliber guys that don’t have reckless driving tickets. I’ll take the talent.

We might next year, give Wolf some tape on him and see if he wants to give him a 1 year extension before next year’s free agency

Can’t be worse than our current LBs, right?

That’s for sure… Heck I’d have a Daily cattle call of FAs for WR, OT, and for Every Position on defense until I found dudes better than the ones I already have… Shouldn’t be that hard really.

If Donta’ Hightower said something to me, I’d listen… Then again I thought Troy Brown would make an excellent WRs coach too
If he isn’t a good coach listening doesn’t help.

Boomtower is one of my top 5 all time Patriots but that doesn’t mean he’s a good coach. A lot of good players are bad coaches.

And Vince Wilferk, courtesy of Jim Nantz…
I've always wondered why does he say it like that? I watched a game recently and he really butchers that name.

Jon Gruden called Matt Light "Todd Light".

Has raw ability but he's getting cut for a reason. Seems to have some off field issues. Not sure this locker room is strong enough to where they should take chances on troubled guys/malcontents as reclamation projects. Most important thing the rest of the way for Mayo and staff is making sure they don't lose the locker room, so they have to be conscious of that in all decisions.
