If matters continue more or less as they are, should the Krafts fire Mayo at season's end?

I have always been of the position that Kraft would give Mayo at least 2 seasons to prove himself, and I thought that there would be many losses in that time, especially this season, but I never considered the situation where Mayo would lose the locker room and the team wouldn’t play hard for him, and that’s starting to look like what is going on. If that actually is the case then it could end up being one and done, in which case Wolf is going to have to nail the next HC pick, or this franchise could go into the ****ter for years to come.
RK is a shrewd businessman loyalty smoyalty: I think if it continues to go south Mayo is gone on Black Monday 25. They're some good Offensive minds that can be added: I love the 2025 impending Coaching pool cut your losses RK. Mayo is in over his head sinking ship.

Mayo is terrible???

After all, he should have been able to deal with the losses of Barmore, Judon and Bentley.

Mayo should have gotten a coach who would have made our OL average. Of course, no one who was that good would have been likely to come.
================
Mayo may be great, OK or terrible. Time will tell.

Are Lowe, Jacobs, Sow, Jordan, Brown, Thomas, Wallace and Robinson really good NFL OL's?

After all, we certainly should expect that coaching should be able to succeed. It shouldn't take talented player.
==========
TO BE CLEAR
Brown, Jordan, and Jacobs are playing better than any of us had any right to expect. Brown may be a very pleasant addition.

The big gaping hole in the middle of the run defense would be easily solved by signing some massive run stuffer out there, even if it's some older guy waiting for somebody to call. He would hold the line until Barmore potentially returned. They didn't sign anyone, they brought in some undersized longshot, late round draft pick, UDFA waive wire types off the scrap heap. I suspect BB would have made a schematic change as well, went back to a 3 DT type front... adjusted.

The big gaping hole on the offensive line, that should have been addressed in the offseason... too late now. They brought 4-5 longshot, late round draft pick, UDFA waive wire types in since the season began and came away with one player in Demontry Jacobs. Unfortunelty Wolf relied those same sort of scrubs back at the start of offseason thinking they were good enough to start... which is why they stink right now.

If Mayo is the guy ready to lead these guys... can anyone explain why Polk was shoehorned in as a starter despite his atrocious hands all season and there has been zero accountability for his atrocious hands? You want to trade Thornton, so you're putting him on ice and letting him collect a paycheck with zero chance to up his trade value or prove his worth by playing him with the first QB in his entire pro career who can actually throw long?

I think Elliot Wolf makes personnel decisions from up on high and Mayo does what he's told. We're being forced to watch Polk because Wolf wants to justify the draft pick.
BB the GM tortured us in a similar way with Harry and others.

Yes, he's terribly soft (his own words). He's terribly disorganized. He's terribly disconnected from the Gameplans.

But he's got a great smile and all the animals love him.

He's not the right guy long term, but this year its fine. No one worth anything would have taken over this squad with the lack of talent they had. So far the Mayo pick is great, but both lines are non existent. They obviously couldn't have anticipated Barmore's health issues, but they probably should have made another move or two in FA or the trade market to get some additional front 7 help, instead of relying on in house options.

Yup.. Right on. Picking on Mayo in Sept and Oct with the personnel challenges they have is silly. Look, Mayo was deemed a special guy long ago in terms of coach on the field.... leader of men....smarts.... That was reported on in a big way. Mayo was the guy to take this job. No doubt. Short term, the team is having obvious personnel issues with injuries at positions that were critically weak (line of scrimmage). They are in a brand new offense that was going to take a year to get all up to speed on. Not a summer camp. Patience.
So far the coaching and the front office have been worse than the personnel

BB just tore into Mayo today. Defended his old defensive players to the hilt saying they aren't soft.

Mayo cannot sustain this. He just can't.
I honestly don’t know what he’s doing, both from an X’s and O’s standpoint and from a team building/leading standpoint. It’s just a mess so far

I really wanted to see the best with Mayo. Loved the guy as a player and have loved the way he had always carried himself. Saw potential for him to be a great hire.

But this isn’t working out, he’s clearly over his ski’s in this role and you can almost sense the fatigue with him setting in.

He’s trying to be Bill in ways he should be Jerod, and trying to be Jerod in ways that he should have been like Bill. He’s like the father who wants to be your friend and also lay down the law. He’s not taken seriously.

Wolf should be the first one to go

Bad bad press conference this morning by Mayo!

He has no grip on his team !

I’ll resume his press conference:

Coaching is fine, it’s the player at fault for not playing good enough

There is no discipline in the building. Players can do whatever they want.

Fire this guy already
Mayo should have been fired right after his first press conference. He spoke like he was a disaster in the making

Certainly this has been discussed here, but given Mayo's early remarks about burning cash, then proceeding to go into the season with 50m of cap space. What exactly happened?

I would be ok if we overexpend for talent (given this season, we might not even have a choice anymore), but if we did indeed lost some FAs for a couple of millions... I wonder who hit the breaks.

Makes absolutely no sense to carry this much money for this year. It's good only for Kraft (and even that's debatable, since a stinker of a season must be awful for business)

Hopefully we are aggressive next off-season. Either go after some big names, or spread it around to fill as many holes and brew competition, whatever. We can't keep "saving money"

Wolf should be the first one to go
The guy responsible for the one good decision (Maye) this team has made over the past 2 years should be the first to go?

Wolf is the least of the problems with the Pats. Wolf could give Mayo the 2007 Pats roster, and Mayo would find a way to lose 12 games.

Not the guy whose only decision was the one that the world told him to make should go first.

By all means though correct me and list all of his good decisions.

I still don’t hate a lot of Wolf’s moves. The contracts given were smart and efficient deals. I would’ve gotten a few FA’s, but it’s better than dumping front loaded money to mediocre talent.

I moreso blame coaching for not putting talent into the right positions.
