Why no turnovers on D?

Would really help this team... Playing from a short field vs being pinned deep on nearly every drive...

Right now I believe we are -1 in turnover differential... Just 3 ints, 4 forced fumbles... So what's with the non-opportunistic defense?
Is it a lack of pass rush / pressure? Not being able to force QB into making risky throws?

Is it using the zone defense as lot? Don't know the percentage breakdown... If you do, let me know in case I'm wr-wr-wr incorrect ... Is it the defensive scheme? The cushions the dbs are giving up? Letting the wrs climb the route tree before engaging the wideouts? Seems to me it's a fairly talented bunch of Reubens in the backfield... We should have more than 3 ints at this point...

We do know the run defense is broken, so was kinda surprised at the four ff... Not expecting too much here... Barmore being out hurts the pass rush... But it's like white is mia lately... Can losing Bentley really have made that much of a difference? He is a good steady player, productive as a tackling machine... but is he really that much of a game changer? We really need to concentrate on stopping the run first...

Anyone have any answers? Seems like the Defense has the talent to turn things around but there's always one or two issues that are grinding the d down... We should be performing better than we are at this point of the year...
They can't even tackle. Let's work on that first.

No. He ran for 4.9 yards per carry, had 21 TD's and was 3rd in rushing in only 14 games. He was also first team all pro. He was also the OPOTY in 2017. You are severely minimizing Gurley's presence.
All I'm saying is they averaged more without him than they did with him. And they were the 11th highest scoring O in history.

Scored 3 points in the Super Bowl.

They lost Barmore and Bentley but added Gonzalez and Marcus Jones. Heck even Jon Jones missed 5 games last year. These are all your cornerbacks
CONCLUSIONS
1) Our secondary should be at least as good as 2023, if the Front Six performed near 2023 level. Yes, we decided not to add a starter to replace Bryant, but rather we are giving a chance to Wilson, Bolden and Austin. The problem is NOT the secondary. At safety, we replaced Mills and Bledsoe with Hawkins and Pettus (at least a wash)

2) We lost Barmore and Guy. We got back Ekuale and added ???. NOT GOOD! The fault is Wolf. The line was relatively weak against the run start with. Counting on Pharms as a top backup is simply wrong. Again, the problem is that Wolf didn't add a solid DT.

3) At linebacker we had Tavai and Bentley to defend against the run. We also had some hope that McMillan could step as needed (seems like counting on Anderson at OT). We needed a LB. Wolf refused to sign one.

BOTTOM LINE
Our weakness last year was defending the run. We did NOTHING to remedy that deficit, other than not bothering to replace Guy. So, what happened when we decided not to try to improve our Run Defense. We lost Barmore and Bentley. And somehow even the coach of the Jags understood that they didn't need to pass to win.

That's a small sample size. They were a better team with him and they took a nose dive in 2019. They averaged almost 140 yards rushing in 2018 to 93 in 2019. They averaged almost 33 points in 2018 to almost 25 in 2019. That's a big difference.

That's like saying the Pats are fine without Gronk just because they won in 2016, but they lost in 2011 Super Bowl with him barely able to run, lost again in the AFCCG in 2012 after hanging 41 on the Texans, they had no shot without him 2013 in Denver and we all know what happened in 2019 when he retired.

So it's just pressure related?

Could be... So we need to take more risks? Bring the blitz more than once in a blue moon? Ramp up the aggression?

Mayo called the team soft... I'm not so sure that the players are the ones who are soft... Covington should know how to generate pressure... It's one thing he's was able to do moderately successfully over the last few years...

A team that is this undisciplined should not even have the word "risky" in their vocabulary. A return to fundamentals will be the best possible chance at reigniting the turnovers. Turnovers are a bit of "situational football" and a team playing as sloppy as this one has cannot take advantage of that.

One of the worst things you can do when nothing is going right is start breaking "the rules", you just aren't equipped to as a team.

Nothing looks stupider than peeling off your man to undercut a route and blowing coverage for nothing. Nothing looks more dumb than White just barreling with little discipline and losing the edge.

Pass rush sucks, they can’t generate pressure with their front 4.

I don’t see any deflections, soft spots in coverage, no pressure, gaps in the run game.
In a nutshell, they’re soft.

As in, always playing soft zone with no pass rush.

And no ability to stop the run.

Ummm...
The defense sucks and Gonzalez is an overrated jag
Defense is neutered right now

Gonzo might be a bit overrated (still TBD imo) but he's no JAG, gtfoh with that

Teams Trade for decent players not Jags. There's a reason why Wolf has been so quiet nobody is calling or picking up.
disciplined play within a good scheme makes jags look decent. There’s a reason many players don’t look as good on their next team as they did with the Pats.

You left out the water boy
That's because even though we all know the recipe none of us have a clue how to make it. Yet he's still providing high quality H²O.

The rumblings from players accusing teammates of "freelancing" and "taking theirs" is getting louder.

That might be a big reason they aren't making plays.

When BB had players doing their own thing he reduced their snaps or traded them.

Let's see what Mayo does.
We've already seen what he does. He finds the nearest camera and microphone and sends his message through TV.

Apparently his Optum internship did not teach the old adage “Praise in public but punish in private”.
