He decided he was gone before 2019 even started. At the very least, the Pats would’ve secured a bye, if not HFA itself… At best, perhaps another, longer, PO run convinces Bill that Tom still has a couple more quality seasons in him; and the two then finish their careers in Foxborough, with Bill surpassing the hated Shula this past season…
It is interesting that Brian Hoyer hinted that Brady was on the verge of holding out right before the season started had they not reworked his contract so the Pats couldn't franchise him after the 2019 season.Brady asked for the no franchise clause after he won the Superbowl. I suppose if they win the SB in 2019 he changes his mind. And obviously Chubb instead of Sony helps and we can play that game with all sorts of moves like Harry/Brown.It is interesting that Brian Hoyer hinted that Brady was on the verge of holding out right before the season started had they not reworked his contract so the Pats couldn't franchise him after the 2019 season.
While Michel's production was overrated due to the supporting cast, he didn't show signs of the cliff until the 2019 season started. I doubt Brady saw that and wanted out. Maybe had they taken Chubb and AJ Brown/Metcalf in 2019, Brady probably returns had they went on a long playoff run.
First of all, I have no idea how Tom even allowed the team to put a franchise clause in his contract to begin with. That's very amateur for a player of his stature and more big name players have caught on to eliminate that when getting their first big deal. Ditto with the no trade clause.I suppose if they win the SB in 2019 he changes his mind. And obviously Chubb instead of Sony helps and we can play that game with all sorts of moves like Harry/Brown.
I just wish they didn't let Sentimentality get in the way. Kraft shouldn't have given him such an easy out. Franchise tags were literally created for this sort of thing. All Kraft had to do was be an *******. And publicly everyone probably would have called Bill the ******* anyway. But he has no spine.
I didn't realize players were doing that now? How common is that? I assume Mahomes and the huge QB contracts but is that it?First of all, I have no idea how Tom even allowed the team to put a franchise clause in his contract to begin with. Aside from that, I don't think Kraft had a choice as Tom was on the verge of sitting out the season after he told Brain Hoyer "get ready to play".
These were all I could find:I didn't realize players were doing that now? How common is that? I assume Mahomes and the huge QB contracts but is that it?
Jamal adams was just released by Titans. With peppers situation unsettled. Should be show interest on him?If there are no tackles worthy, I'm looking at those WRs.
Travis Hunter (I know he's a CB)?
Can he play LB? Then, no.Jamal adams was just released by Titans. With peppers situation unsettled. Should be show interest on him?
Jamal Adams can only play LB, lol. You don’t want to ask him to cover anyone. Can he play LB? Then, no.
Interesting info. I still think it was dumb not to hold Brady to it.These were all I could find:
Mahomes didn't have it removed surprisingly.
Larry Fitzgerald got it eliminated from his deal in 2008 and had a no trade clause.
Darrelle Revis got it removed after a holdout in 2012.
Semi related - Nick Foles had he NFL force the Eagles to remove the Franchise Tag after the 2017 season as there was proof the Eagles weren't tagging him in good faith.
Dak Prescott got it removed 2021.
Kirk Cousins is the latest when he signed with the Vikings.
Caleb Williams just tried to get it removed, but was declined. That was at least smart to ask for it, but I'd have that removed on the next deal.
Jimmy G is the latest I've seen with the no trade clause.
There's not a lot of examples, but it happens if you press for it.
