Many of you turned on Belichick over the last couple of years. Stating that the game had passed him by, etc.

Over that same span, I personally felt that Belichick was doing some of his best coaching the last 3 seasons. Looking at the Patriots roster, seeing the lack of talent, and seeing him putting together 8 and 10 wins seemed like practical magic.

To win 10 games and 8 games in 2021 and 2022 was very impressive, in my opinion, with the lack of talent the roster had. I don’t think Mayo gets 4 wins with the current team.

Long story short: I’m curious on your thoughts now. Is your appreciation for Belichick, and what he got out of the roster the last 3 years, growing?

I’m looking forward to comments after the Texans game.

Wasn't the team under Bill the last few years one of the most penalized teams in the league, along with the non-existent offense? Bill is the GOAT but that ship has sailed regardless of how Mayo works out

2021 we were 14th
2022 we were 20th

Regression .

Belichick the HC got the ceiling of most teams he coached including 2021 and 2022.

His drafting and general GM’img lowered that ceiling every year since Brady left.

would you take him in Buffalo, of McDermott flames out yet again, choking away another chance in the playoffs?

That’s irrrelevant to my point though.

My point is that, in my opinion, the teams SHOULD have been 30th or so in both categories those years, and Belichick elevated the limited talent.

Absolutely.

Allen has a Super Bowl trophy is Belichick was his coach.

13 Seconds never would have happened.
maybe... as long as he doesn't put a TE into pass coverage...

But then couldnt I say that if Mayo gets this team anywhere above 32nd in any category then he is a "+" coach since the Pats were expected to be the worst team in the league with no talent?

Wrong thread

Yes.

But right now the Patriots look like the 32nd team they were expected to be.

There's several teams that would take him imo.

But if he wants full control...I could see that being an issue

It was always about his roster management not his coaching

Bill needed a QB. He had competent QB play Mac's first year and we made the playoffs. I think that gave the Krafts a false sense that Mac was gonna be a franchise QB and tied Bill's job with Mac's success. Unfortunately, Mac's physical limitations and weak mental fortitude cost Bill his job.

Maye looks like he's gonna be good. At least he's got the physical tools and isn't afraid of his own shadow. It's too bad we got rid of Bill and hired a staff who look like they don't know what they are doing.

He’s in his 70s. You have to transition at some point.

And after Mac, I don’t think he would have been ideal for the next young quarterback.

Do we even get Maye with BB at the helm?
