I think the fans thinking we insert Maye and go on a winning streak are fooling themselves.
I just believe the teams looking for a spark.. organizations change QBs all the time.. the Panthers did it. Thier offense looks far better with Dalton. Sometimes change is needed. I don't think anyone her is expecting us to suddenly become a offense powerhouse. Simply looking competent would be a level up from what we have now.

Mayo’s language around the QB situation is definitely markedly different than it has been previously. No more “Jacoby is our guy”, now it’s all “we’re evaluating the position” with no commitments to anyone.

If this is Maye’s week to take over, this would be his full year 1 slate:

1. Texans
2. Jaguars at neutral site (London)
3. Jets
4. @ Titans
5. @ Bears
6. Rams
7. @ Miami
8. Colts
BYE WEEK
9. @ Cardinals
10. @ Bills
11. Chargers
12. Bills

If he’s ready, play him. If a qb can be ruined in 3/4 of a season he wasn’t the guy, just my opinion.
He can be ruined by a single play. "But that can happen to any QB!" Take to the totality of circumstances into account:

* Drake is young and raw

* The OL is truly awful

* There's a real, heightened risk of injury

* Developmentally, it could set him back significantly to not have time to throw and to take a lot of hits

* The team is going nowhere

Anyways, I've heard it all... The line is bad because of JB... The line isn't really bad at all... Drake is ready... Drake isn't ready... I think all of this is a reaction to nearly unwatchable games. People want to be entertained. So throw the kid in there! Sure, as long as that kid's name is Milton.

Define streak. You could go 3-1 in November with Titans, Bears, Rams and Dolphins, maybe catch the Colts. Then you'd could be 5-8 with a pair of winnable games sandwiching the Bills. I still think 6-8 wins is there, but they gotta clean up some chit first. Let's say they leave Brissett in and they get beat by Texans. Starting Maye in a winnable game in London is feasible. They eke that out and lose to Jets, then have their little honeymoon, suddenly you're feeling like you've righted the ship They are a long way away from that, to be sure, but if the The Kid can get the ball out quicker, then the line suddenly looks better because the QB play is better.

not exactly a murderers row between now and the bye week

I think that's my point. Maye isn't going to clean up the penalties on the offense. He's not going to stop some of the fundamentals that the defense is breaking down with. He's not going to make AVP look like a genius playcaller. He's not going to fix the time management issues.

And that's not even adding the rookie mistakes Maye is probably going to make all over the place. Interceptions, miscues, etc.

I just think that expectations are way too high that we're a QB away from being a good team.

Your assessment is exactly what I got from mayo. He's had 24 hours to digest everything and he appeared to be very noncommittal no tough and warrior comments about Jacoby this time. Another thing I wanted to mentionSeattle ,Jets and 9ners all teams we Lost too this season all look like flawed beatable teams that teams that had competent QB play have all beaten them.

Please just give me something worth watching.

We can't beat Miami with a 3rd string QB now we have to go to Miami a house of horror for us. The bills can still score with anyone.. the Cardinals are a fietsty team that can put up points. Rams still have Stafford, jags won't be a easy game either. Jets at home will be tough.. however this could all look different if we play a more talented QB .

I don't think that at all. I do think that he gets a little mojo working and suddenly the staff is a lot smarter with good QB play. I guess I am thinking that he might be able to mask some sins, you know, like another QB we used to know. I don't think Maye can make it all better, but maybe he can just get the ball out quicker and make everyone a touch better.

Why do you people do this? Like, "I didn't say forever!" Well I didn't say you said forever. It's just hyperbole. Move past it.
I'm aware it's hyperbole. It's also an attempt to paint people who disagree with you as unreasonable, and that's why I challenged you on what you really meant. Note that I put "forever" it quotes.
He'll get the valuable experience of being active in real meaningful football snaps for the first time in, what, 10 months? He has to get a feel for the speed of the game sooner or later. I don't want him going into next year as essentially a rookie all over again.
No heightened chance of injury behind this travesty of an OL? Not worried about starting a kid with the decked stacked against him? Not worried about a severe injury that knocks him out for the rest of the season and half of next? That's just football, right?

If Maye is any good then I could see 5 wins across the next 9 games. They’d then be 6-8 with three games left against likely AFC playoff teams (two Buffalo games and one Chargers game). If they can go 2-1 in those, they probably don’t make the playoffs still but they would be able to show they’ve got their **** largely figured out and are a force to reckon with next year which will be good for free agency.

Even with lesser results, managing to go even close to .500 from here forward would be a big boon.

They just lost a home game to a third string QB who had been with the team for two weeks.

I don't think this organization will intentionally tank, especially for what? A left tackle in the top 5?

I think they are just bad.
The phases of establishing new teams are forming, storming and norming. This team is firmly in the storming phase with everything in turmoil. A team needs to bottom out before starting the improvement process to where playing well is the norm. A change at QB is a good place to start.

not for nothing, but i called week 6 before the season started as when Maye would take the reigns........I nailed the SF score, and now this......and my ex-wife says I'm always wrong!!!!

No, I know and I think you're right about covering some of the flaws, but he'll probably also expose his own flaws. I just think we're going to suck with Maye or without him. Though hopefully it'll be a bit more interesting with Maye. This year isn't about winning games or trying to squeak into the playoffs. It's who is progressing and who needs to be replaced: players and coaches?

Just seeing a passing TD happen in consecutive games is going to feel like a winning streak.

Agree. We are a month into the season. We all can see what we are on offense. I just believe that collectively Mayo and his staff likely feel a change is needed to spark this offense. Brissett is what he is. Teams do this all the time. Going from vet to rookie and vice versa. Football is a high contact sport so the risk for injuries are always going to be there. The line actually wasn't as putrid as they have been yesterday. Talent wins in the NFL.. I tip my hat to Mayo and his staff for having Drake this ready this soon. I know we won't be an offensive powerhouse with Maye put could be score 20 points a game? Or anything more than 13ppg. With him I believe so. Teams have to account for alot more with Drake. His arm strength, his ability to break outside and run if the play breaks down he's not going to stand there and be a human piñata.
