I think I would rather see him stay at C, he looked really good in the preseason for Detroit. big strong guy that hopefuuly wont be pushed back like Andrews here lately.

I was relatively impressed by Jacobs and see him having a future here as a swing tackle. Bosa made him look bad at times but he looked pretty good against Floyd.

I understand that. My point was that LT may be in the worse shape and he’s also played LT. Is he going to replace Leverett at backup C? Maybe not. Could he replace whatever is at LT…maybe. These are difficult times.

1) Andrews is injured. We will need to at least elevate a backup center, Hudson.

2) If we need yet another LT, with both Lowe and Wallace out, then we have one on the PS: Jones. Thomas is also an emergency OT.

I might be in minority but I was impressed with Jacobs. The tackles were okay. I felt the guards were so -so. Lots of free rushers on inside and we couldn't create gap in middle for the run like what we did with Bengals.

I see guards to be a bigger problem than tackles.

They want to win they should play Drake Maye. I think they have 21 points in the first half with Maye at QB. They scored 3! The line killed some drives in the second half for sure. Plays are there, certain receivers get open, if it's not the line then it's the QB. I have no idea how you can watch tape and not play Maye other than the irrational fear of him getting hurt, which is based on no actual historical evidence which shows no relation between number of sacks and injuries. But I digress, onto the film.

Jacoby Brissett-I thought this was his worst game of the year. Even taking into account the line issues, especially bad at LT and RG and especially bad in the 2nd half. The Good-Perfect, great back shoulder throw with guy in his face. Could not be done better. Excellent swing pass to Rhamondre leading him up the field to help him avoid tacklers and gain yardage. Good pocket movement on dump to Gibson that ended as a big gain. And that ends the good portion of Jacoby's day. The Bad-First 3rd down he had some time, stared down his first read, LB read his eyes jumped the throwing lane, Jacoby waited until wr cleared the LB, wr was covered well, and Jacoby threw it too low, jut to the left of the LB that he led to the route. He had 3, yes 3, better options on that play. Everything you want to do wrong as a QB on third and 3 he did, killed the series. He also could have run for the first.
-On the Pick, defense totally fooled him, they overloaded the right side of line with a fake blitz, so Jacoby moved the RB from his left to right, leaving Jacobs on Bosa with no help. They rush 4, no overload, people drop out. Jacoby stares down TT on the deep in-cut, LB reads it, again, and Jacoby never sees him, and throws the pick as Bosa bears down. Polk is open with no one within 10 yards of him middle to right for a catch and run probably a 30 yard play, DD is similarly wide open. Again, can't be worse QB play. He killed 2 series that would probably been red zone series, possibly touchdowns and end up with a pick 6 and zero points so far. I won't go thru every horrible play but highlight one or 2 others. On the drive they turned over on downs, He took a sack on a scramble to the 30, he had time to throw, had Boutte wide open as first read for first down, stared at him, did not throw, rolled out and sacked. They are, worst case, first and 10 at the 15, maybe first and goal with YAC, another possible TD drive ends on downs. His pocket movement was bad, his feel for pressure, bad. 1/2 the 6 sacks he could have avoided.
Even the last play where Bosa strip sacked and caused a fumble. Yes, Bosa beat Jacobs, got to JB. JB never felt the pressure, never moved up in the pocket, how many times in pre-season and college did we see Maye feel the pressure move up and make a throw. I'm not even counting this as a sack Jacoby could avoid but he has Polk for a TD if he steps into the pocket and gets some separation from Bosa who only hits his arm on the ****ing of the arm. Good Qb's feel the pressure, step up and make the throw. I'm not counting this one but that's a 4th TD drive a good QB reasonably has in this game.



They could have scored 28 points with a good QB. It was just bad, worst of the year, and they had 28 points there for the taking without and NFL Left Tackle. Now you know why Mahomes won a Super Bowl with LT and RT that were amongst the worst in the NFL. QB makes a HUGE difference.

I can just repeat last week on the Wide Receivers. TT can't get off the line, KJ just plain stinks, DD, Henry and Polk are open enough. Boutte played 15 snaps and Osborn played 42. Boutte made more plays and was open more than Osborn. They need to switch those play numbers and not playing Baker at all seems a missed opportunity.
Polk made a rookie mistake causing the 4th and 1 by not just catching and backing over the first down marker, instead trying to come back and make a move. His hands are excellent, route running is getting better. I thought he made one bad mistake on one fo the sacks, he had a LB on him, beat him off the line, had the middle wide open but broke outside allowing LB to catch up, if he broke middle nobody was there and LB leverage would but have allowed him to keep up. Yeah, maybe the play call is for an out and if Jacoby throws on the break, first time ever, then maybe that's a mistake but the middle was so wide open I think you just have to recognize it and make the move.

I did not think Jacoby would be such an issue on All-22. yeah, he had no chance on some drives and some plays due to the line, but when he does have opportunities, he misses too many. He can't hit them all but his percentage of misses is just way too high and they have little margin for error.

You won't find anyone who disagrees that the Pats chose their QB before getting a reliable LT. This is where the similarity to the Jets, ends. While not as exciting as throwing the new kid into the fire, the team is ensuring that the QB is ready before putting him in the lineup. If the Pats trade down this year to restock the OL, the QB will be ready. If they had solidified the OL this draft we would be looking at another down year next year as the QB develops.

Yeah Brissett is truly awful but I think they are thanking by still playing him.

I totally disagree, it's not drafting a QB, its drafting the right QB. A QB is the #1 most statistically important position in terms of wins in the NFL and maybe in all of sports.

A franchise QB is the single most valuable asset an NFL team can have. Any team would trade any player they have for an elite QB unless they already have one

Chiefs win last year with 2 bad tackles; they have not had good pass blocking line since Mahomes was the QB. Yet they have multiple Super Bowls.

Maye didn't have a line in college and still played well, he'd still put up 20 points a game behind this line. He might have put up 28 vs the 49ers based on the film.

You are also talking about a line with basically all the starters injured. Yeah, they need a Left Tackle, Lowe might be adequate, might not, the rest of the line, when healthy would be solid enough.

Next year's QB draft class is pretty weak, so you, what? Hope in 2026 you are in position to get a franchise QB and hope a top prospect shows up where you can draft him?

Considering in over a decade of prospects I looked at, Mahomes, Herbert and Maye were the 3 can't miss prospects I found, good luck having another one of those caliber QB's even being in the draft the next 5 years, never mind you being in position to take one.

On PFF 5 out of the top 10 Tackles made the playoffs in 2023
9 out of 10 QB's made the playoffs with Kirk Cousins the only one not, but only played 8 games.

Going back to 2001 the top 5 QB's made the playoffs every year, except Cousins in 1 year. Even Burrow in 2022 had 51 sacks and a 22.9 P2S% went 12-4, Josh Allen sacked 41 times that year, Hurtz 40, both teams lost 3 games.

It's not 1985, you don't build from the inside out. If you have a chance at a true franchise QB you do everything to get him. The fact we did not need to trade three number ones for Drake Maye is ridiculous luck.

Right now so many O linemen are playing out of position that everything looks suspect. Between Onwenu, Sow, Strange and the young players guard should be ok. Tackle and center are the areas of need on the OL. Given a chance to get healthy and play is natural position Wallace may be an option at RT. Now that Andrews is hurt, I wouldn't mind seeing if Strange is a good fit at center. LT is the place where they need multiple players added during the off season.

I've had a little change in my view. The o-line is bad; the WR's aren't showing much. Until now, I have regarded these facts as supporting the idea that it is not yet time for Maye to play. I now think that development/evaluation of the o-line and the WR's, and of other players on offense, is very much inhibited by dismal QB play. So, I now think that it's time for Maye to play both for the sake of his development and evaluation and as a way of creating a situation in which the other players on offense can show what they can do and develop themselves.
