Brissett HAS an arm, he just can’t USE it.
It's like Mac... for some reason his changeup mode is set to eephus, and he loves his changeup thinking he's Greg Maddux.

If he could extend the play ... just a bit he could ... but he cannot run to save his life ... not even a trot.
Found it interesting in Mayo’s presser that he mentioned they need to work schematically on getting the ball out faster. He commented about OL play but also said that if you go back and watch the film, you can see on many sacks that the ball should have already been out by then. So even Mayo sees Brissett is holding the ball way too long and making the OL look worse than it is.

I have a feeling Maye is ready. They aren't willing to play him behind the OL.
I agree. However, I would absolutely not play him behind this OL (and that's before Andrews and Wallace got injured). I understand the theory of he'll learn from the reps and such in an actual game, and I know that a player can get injured just warming-up in practice, but the risk of injury alone is just too great. I like what little I have seen of him (athletic ability, character, and mental toughness from playing behind a mediocre at best offense at UNC). And I don't suspect that it'll hurt his psyche if they loose with him as QB. I just don't want him falling into bad habits because of it. I'm not an AVP Fan, but at least AVP is not hurting him with what he's having him do regarding the fundamentals. There's nothing there that a new OC would have to re-coach (or coach out of him that AVP is doing).

Zappe is Better than Brissett.
Zappe was not much different if at all from Mac. The longer he played the worse he got. His best game last year was not as good as Mac's best game, he trailed off and his worst game was as bad or worse than Mac.

Let's be real, barring getting an actual franchise QB, which was not achievable because we are hoping Maye is that, then any backup/stopgap level guy was going to get killed behind this line and with this offense and ultimately get the same criticism. Cam, Stidham, Mac, Zappe, Brissett. Everyone wanted to believe one of those 5 was the answer, got to see them and ultimately came away realizing that they weren't much of an upgrade over the last guy.

Brissett's advantage is that

1. The fans know he is temporary. There isn't going to be a subset of fans playing dumb thinking we are spurning Maye because we think someone else is the guy, like people would do with Mac or Zappe. Nobody thinks Brissett is the longterm plan and knows he's just keeping the spot warm until the coaching staff.

2. He's a vet who is "safe" so he's not going to have a total disaster game like Mac and Zappe were liable to do which would force the issue with fans in an overwhelming way and force the coaching staff to pull the trigger on Maye before they are comfortable.

3. He's proven to be relatively durable, so you aren't worried too much about an emergency situation.

Givens ..... 285 lbs got him 2.5
Collins ..... 310 lbs got him 1.5
Anderson ..... 326 lbs got him once.

...and Bosa but he doesn't count.

That is a man who is slower than ****.
I see his legs moving ... but he's not ... how is that possible?

Brisk's best attribute (INT%) also contributes to his worst (over cautious). Jump Ball Jacoby is not walking through that door (except that one TT11 PI throw).

Once again everyone in here is posting about how bad the OL is and how they can’t play Drake because of the OL. Did we not all watch the same game? Sure there were some problems but for the most part they gave the current QB plenty of time on plenty of occasions, he just sucks. If Maye is any good at all he will be much better with this same group.
I agree that Brissett is disappointing (a kind assessment). But I wouldn't throw Maye behind this OL or put him in this offense.

Like the ref commercial this game ...
Hopefully Jacoby has a loyal dog waiting for him.

They aren't worried about Maye looking bad, they are worried about him developing some bad habits that he his starting to get rid of in practice. Thats just smart business for a QB that was as raw as he was in some ways. They are playing this perfectly.
It's the one thing that they are doing correctly.

I was all for the Chad Shank Ryland Redemption but man, Slye won it fair and really showed off today.

If Polk had a decent QB he'd be opening eyes league wide. Instead nobody knows his name outside this forum.

There's no room for Osborne on this team once Bourne comes back.

Defense was better than the score.

The lack of health and continuity along the o-line, on top of having to put in practice squad talent-level players in Jacobs and Robinson is brutal to see.

I can't stress this enough: It doesn't matter if you have All-Pros everywhere, you'll always be as bad as your most exploitable players. We have guys along the line--and QB-- who are cheat codes for the other team.
Agree with most of what you say here except that the “defense was better than the score”. Defense was awful today and got bailed out for the most part by 49ers making some mistakes…..Pats displayed some of the WORST tackling I’ve seen in awhile…..their RB ran through our D like knife through butter…..gave up two 50 yard passes at the worst time…..D has not played up to potential imho

So I missed the game but from the sound of it the game didn’t go well.

It’s a small sample size but is Mayo just not a good coach or too early to say?
Not a good coach (although it's still early). I was not pleased with his being named HC. I'm just being honest.

It's like a cartoon he's running but not going anywhere

My guess is that they give Maye the 4 games after the bye assuming the line doesn't get more banged up. The season will be over. The pressure won't be on him. It will be enough to give the fans something new to look forward to, but short enough that if he struggles because of the line and the overall offense it won't be a prolonged situation that will turn the fans on him immediately. They can also keep some guardrails on him without the cries to take training wheels off.

On another note, the remaining schedule for the Patriots based on strength of schedule (assuming Buffalo loses tonight and Miami loses tomorrow) is 22-30.

Further, their opponents between now and their bye week are a combined 13-23. The only team they’ll face who currently has a winning record before their bye week 10 weeks from now is Houston who is 3-1.
Our Defense gave up over 400yds Miami with even me at QB could put up 300yds easily.

Tough to say. He didn't have Rham and Bourne. 2 of his games were played in much worse conditions than that dreadful Broncos Jete game today. He had WRs making terrible decisions leading to pick 6s.

That being said, you're most probably right. Mac made turtle throws and Zap made gunslinger throws, and at the end of the day, both can be considered dumb throws (like the IND game where Mac made one of the worst throws ever and Zap made one of the dumbest throws).

The 49'ers have not been that good this year and they've been pretty banged up overall (CMC out, Kittle banged up, Aiyuk largely underperforming)
