Damien Woody's take on Maye timetable - its correct.

He was 21 years old… he was taken for his tremendous upside.

“If he wasn’t ready” to start is a silly metric, in 2021 Mac was the most pro ready QB available on his draft class. No rookie is ready until he is, you’re just an impatient fan.
"Football players play football." - Bill Belichick

A vast majority of QBs drafted in the top 5 have been disappointments to outright busts.
Absolutely - which is why I was so staunchly opposed to drafting Maye in the first place. Not only are the vast majority of top 5 QBs busts, but we weren't even getting the top QB we wanted (probably not even the top 2 when you think about it).

We could have had MHJ, Malik, or (reportedly) 3 #1's. Hell if we made a trade with the Giants, we could have had Malik AND an extra first rounder in hand. But instead we got a guy who sure does know how to hold a clipboard.
How many of them wouldn't have been if they didn't start right away. I mean look at Bryce Young. His career in Carolina is probably over and happened after week 2 of his second season. The number one overall pick from last year. Anthony Richardson looks to be not all that far behind Young at this point.
Bryce Young sucks because Bryce Young sucks, not because he played year 1.
Zach Wilson sucks because Zach Wilson sucks, not because he played year 1.
etc....

So which players are the ones who suck but would be pro bowlers if only they sat for a year? You think Winston or Sanchez would be tearing up the League right now if they sat year 1?

A lot of top QBs fail because the situation they are given. Before this season, people said Sam Darnold sucked because Sam Darnold sucked and not that the Jets ruined him. Now he is an early leading candidate for MVP and leads the league in TD passes.

And yes, I think some of the QBs I listed who started right away and busted out might have been Pro Bowlers if they were managed and developed better.

I was for trading down if they got the right value, but from the sound of it no one gave them the right value. But we are beyond that now. We have Maye. We now have to do whatever is best for him to become a franchise QB and that is to sit him.

Looks like we are weeks or longer off from Maye playing. I am totally ok with that.

Mayo wants to start Maye. It’s pretty clear AVP and Wolff are leaking this to Rapoport. And by the way, I trust Phil Perry a lot more than Rapoport

With all due respect to Rap, this report doesn’t make a lot of sense. Maye is “a ways away” from playing because they haven’t ramped up his reps? The kid is already getting 30% of the reps from the start. They can’t exactly give him more than that or else he’s basically splitting even snaps with the actual starter, which undermines the starter’s ability to prepare. I highly doubt they’ll actually ramp his reps up more than 30% until the week he’s going to play.

The locker room is realizing that Maye is their best chance to win games. It will pretty soon be impossible to keep him on the bench.

Who knows who is right. Hell, Rapoport could have just heard that Maye has consistently been getting 30% of the reps and just assumed the rest of his report that Maye is nowhere near starting. But Perry could be wrong too.

I just don't buy this internal struggle between Mayo and AVP/Wolf on when to start Maye. Mayo is the head coach and has final say on who to start and who to sit. Whether AVP and Wolf disagrees with him or not, Mayo can start Maye anytime he wants. I think Mayo is on board with sitting Maye at this time.

Let's wait for the Miami game. Then we will see how serious they are about delaying his debut. I will be ready for it.

I hope they will wait for the OL to stabilize before putting Maye out there. Sow is starting this afternoon and Strange is coming back in possibly a month or so (unconfirmed).

Perry isn't wrong as others have reported the same about Maye.

If I was a betting man, they would wait until at least after the London game to start him. I am not sure they want to have him to have a foreign game so early in the morning as his third game in his career. Besides, I don't see them putting him in until the o-line shows that it has stablized a bit. Doubtful they are going to do great today against the 49ers' defense.

Yes, I did notice that now. Thanks for pointing it out.

Since you are so confident that statistics aren't my thing, refute one of the points I made. Just one. It should be easy for you, but I'm guessing you'll go dark or insult me again. Which will it be? Will you step up to the plate, or run? I'll be here all day (more or less), but I know you're going to run.

Your post had a bunch of conjecture where as I posted actual data.

If you have actual data to the points you made then they would be worth discussing.

I have never heard another reporter saying Maye is close to starting. I have heard reports that Maye is doing great in practice, but practice is practice.

No, you are the one who issued a ridiculous conjecture, not me. Do you know the meaning of conjecture? In informal contexts, it means speculating that something is true ("the OL is fine") without evidence (PKT, since you abandoned the other). Let's go deeper.

You posted two statistics, claimed they showed something they didn't -- this OL that really isn't so bad after all! -- and then when I pointed out those statistics do not demonstrate with you claimed, you acted like an petulant child and insulted me. You made the ridiculous conjecture of 2.4 PKT time is evidence that the line isn't that bad. I showed that is wrong for a number of FOOTBALL reasons, which I then listed. You refused to engage me on any of those objections (because you can't, still waiting for you to man up). You just point to the number again, saying "It speaks for itself." Yeah, it does. The PKT time is 2.4. That's all it says.

I even gave examples to demonstrate my points. For example, if a team has a QB who gets the ball out quick, PKT will be lower than average but that does not say anything about the line's performance. You cannot look at a stat like that in isolation and make conclusions about the line's performance. Well, you can, but you'd be an amateur at statistical interpretation, which you have demonstrated very effectively.

You're also bad at watching football games and seeing what is really happening. This OL fails the eye test. Now I haven't watched the SF game yet, but I would not be surprised if they fail it again.

We're done, you don't have the brains or the courage to deal with me. Don't reply, won't read it.

I cannot think of a bigger symptom of an f'ed up organization than management overruling the coach.

GM's get the players, but the HC is and absolutely should be the one deciding who takes the field on Sundays. My hope is that any reports suggesting otherwise here are not true.

Go watch other NFL games and you'll see every QB running for their life or scrambling. This is the NFL not college football. Again you have no idea what you're talking about. That statistic like all stats, while not the be all and end all, gives a general idea for that specific category.

Have you ever taken a statistics class?

Exactly.

Every game that I watched Sunday had the QB flushed out or moving around in the pocket because of constant pressure.

I still don't get why people think Mayo is pushing to start the guy and being undermined by Wolf and AVP.

Playing for Draft Day 2025 oh Brissett Please say upright and keep taking it for the Team ad a boy.

I thought the Krafts were committed to winning Hmmmm well like the GOAT HC once said the last twenty years. Memories don't leave like people do they always stay with you.
